A PC keyboard and tower case styled like an 800 computer and two 815 floppy disk drives might be a good idea. It would avoid the expense and legal problems associated with making a genuine Atari 800.

Beginner's MIDI setup for 520STfm
Math You replied to NightSprinter's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
There's a lot of useful information about using the Atari ST for midi on the Sound on Sound forum. There are many people who consider it a better midi computer than a PC or Mac. It's something to do with the ST's low/zero latency that improves the rhythm and timing of electronic drums and instruments. http://www.soundonsound.com/forum/postlist...amp;sb=5&o= -
...but only if it uses genuine hardware I don't really see the point in making a fake 800 computer. An 800 with a USB or SD slot, mp3 playback and jpeg viewer would be good, especially if the Atari's own graphics could be displayed over the jpeg images. You'd get an improvement in sound and graphics without affecting the authenticity of the original hardware.

What is the best value TV plug-n-play game/game system?
Math You replied to Fort Apocalypse's topic in Dedicated Systems
I liked the Jakks Pacific / Atari paddle game. -
Does this mean the TT is 4 times faster (TT 32 bit bus + 32mhz Vs Falcon 16 bit bus + 16 mhz)?
-
I was just reading that (technically speaking) the Atari Falcon was a 16 bit computer and the Atari TT was a 32 bit computer. Is this correct?

Do we need an Atari plug & play arcade TV game?
Math You replied to Math You's topic in Dedicated Systems
True, and a PC or Mac could probably do it much better than a console using composite video. Playing games on a big TV with a custom controller still has it's charms though, especially when playing 2 or 4 player games. -
Question - FB2 Portable?
Math You replied to Curt Vendel's topic in AtGames Flashback and Portable Consoles
I like the arcade joystick. It would look good in black with the Microprose name in red The option of a 'billiard ball' joystick would be good aswell. -
I think Sony and Microsoft will just increase the power of their existing consoles. Nintendo will release a Super Wii with a hi-definition upscale chip and HDMI socket. Atari will release a Super Jag with 2ghz processor, hi-def upscaling, built in DVD player with genlock capabilites and an innovative new controller. The master will return!!!

Question - FB2 Portable?
Math You replied to Curt Vendel's topic in AtGames Flashback and Portable Consoles
I could never understand why Infogrames wanted the Atari name as they don't seem to make very much of Atari's heritage. Maybe they should go back to calling themselves Infogrames. I've always felt that Legacy Engineering are the spiritual successors to the Atari name, even if they don't own the trademark. -
Question - FB2 Portable?
Math You replied to Curt Vendel's topic in AtGames Flashback and Portable Consoles
I get the impression that Legacy Engineering (or maybe another company) will be making their own FB3/FB2 portable as part of a licencing agreement with Atari. -
I always thought that the 1600XL case would have been used for the Atari 1850XL (Amiga).
-
I think the maximum size of cartridege for the ST was 128k.
-
I know this is off topic, but there's a good documentary here that features some Atari employee's: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ras4E4N1S5E Anyway, back to the Atari documentary

ET looks quite good in this video... ...and pretty bad in this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQZ5lBgzHBk It's a shame nobody has hacked into it and sorted out the 'fall in the hole when I'm nowhere near it' issue.
