  1. I reckon the 1400's built in modem and speech chip was inspired by Wargames
  2. So there's no 16bit control over the volume control, as in 16bit sampled sound?
  3. I was reading about how the pokey chip could produce 16 bit sound on Wikipedia but thought it must have been a mistake, is it true?
  4. Just out of curiosity, did the Atari 1000 offer any enhancements over the 800XL such as better graphics and sound or a built in modem?
  5. Arcade atari walked off with the arcade patents and roms. Consumer walked off with all the copyrights and tm's on all the names, characters, etc., and of course the home rights. I tried searching for the arcade 'Atari Games' trademark but couldn't find it. Does Midway still own the name? http://tess2.uspto.gov/bin/showfield?f=toc...ch=Submit+Query
  6. Curt's heart was overloaded with Atari love, and couldn't handle any more. He tried to pack a little more in, but everyone has their limits. I thought Atari broke Curts heart when they cancelled the Flashback portable project But seriously, get well soon Curt!
  7. Maybe it could be like Kaboom except with falling notes instead of bombs
  8. I noticed there was a channel switch on mine but it didn't make any difference to the sound. There's also a trim pot inside that can be used to change the sound frequency. Unfortunately, I broke the ferrite screw inside it
  9. I bought a French 2600 with PAL-B a few months ago. The picture worked fine on a UK (PAL-I) TV but there was no sound (PAL-B uses a different sound carrier to PAL-I).
  10. Three frets would be enough for me. It might be worth considering a paddle option, press the button to strum while moving the paddle left and right to select the correct note.
  11. I find that both 2600 and 7800 cartridges are a tight fit in the 7800, though it's got more to do with the cartridge connector strip being tight and not the size of the cartridge slot.
  12. Tested a few new games. Pressure cooker is a tricky one! Pressure Cooker 30min Demon Attack 20min Spider Fighter 10min Barnstorming 10min
  13. Spider Fighter and Barnstorming are worth a try.
  14. Warner was losing a lot of money before Jack Tramiel took over so you could say he was a saint for saving the company. I don't think the "power without the price" philosophy was such a good idea though. The $800 Atari ST was certainly a lot cheaper than the $1300 Amiga 1000, but the compromises involved seriously affected the long term success of the ST. A 16mhz ST with more on-screen colours and a decent sound chip would have increased the ST's lifespan while still costing less than an Amiga.
  15. I'm another of the resident limeys I own a 7800, but most of my games are for the 2600.
  16. My sister bought GH World Tour for her husband. It's a lot of fun! I found a cheat to unlock all the songs on the Wii version though I've not had a chance to test it yet. Select Options then Cheats: Blue, Blue, Red, Green, Green, Blue, Blue, Yellow
  17. You know, the success of Curts USB joystick might lead to an non-Atari Flashback portable. Question is, what should it be called? Atari own the Flashback trademark.
  18. Was it Rally Speedway?http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=KZ5DnNbSC60 I'd like to see Uridium, Zany Golf, Park Patrol and Racing Destruction Set. http://www.lemon64.com/?mainurl=http%3A//w...php%3FID%3D2064
  19. This looks great Could this be the inspiration for a Flashback 4 ?
  20. That was a great interview! It's just a shame that Atari doesn't want to get involved with the FB3. Fingers crossed another investor will turn up.
  21. There are a lot of LCD and plasma TV reviews here: http://www.testfreaks.co.uk/tvs/?filter%5B...&sort=score
  22. Just bumping an old thread. Has anyone managed to get DVD quality graphics on a Jag
  23. 2 seconds is a long time when you're channel hopping
  24. Samsung make some great LCD TV's, but bear in mind that some models are slow at changing channel. It takes around 2 seconds for my sisters TV to move up a channel when the remote control button is pressed.
