  1. That's the idea. An incompatible computer with it's operating system on a ROM chip might be less prone to spyware that a hard disk based operating system.
  2. I don't think they ever made a PAL version for the Europe. Guess I'll have to stick with the old 7800
  3. A fast, 32bit TT with SVGA graphics would have more potential than the 16bit Falcon. Add a General Midi 2 sound chip to the midi port and a broadband modem and you have the potential for a great internet computer. If it could be integrated into a single chip then it could find it's way into other products such as a games console, music synthesizer, television sets and digital TV tuners? What do you think Curt? Could it be done
  4. This 2 player Sega Genesis/Megadrive could be my new favourite: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_JP9xB_Nxs
  5. Not yet. I notice that Sega/Tectoy have a portable out. Perhaps the success of a Sega handheld will motivate Atari to make the Flashback portable?
  6. True, nostalgia is a powerful thing. I've spent the past few months collecting games for my 7800 but very rarely play them. Playing 2600 games on a handheld would be much more fun (take the hint Atari )
  7. Yep, the new interface is just plain annoying. Options that were previously on screen are now hidden in slow loading menus.
  8. It will probably be the Flashback 2 Portable that was featured in another thread. Please God (and Legacy Engineering) give the FB2P a long term future and incorporate MP3 playback and allow JPEG/GIF images to be displayed behind the 2600/7800 images. The homebrew community will be forever in your debt
  9. They really should have made the 5200 compatible with the 800. It would have been a great way of increasing the number of Atari 800 users.
  10. Well, I tried sanding down the contacts with a small file but still no joy
  11. The only way that this is ever going to become a reality is if it can be made into a commercially successful product. This means a games console or handheld games machine, an educational computer for kids or possibly an MP3 player with the added bonus of Atari 8bit compatability. The real issue is the legality of including Atari software. A console or handheld would need to include software licensed from Atari. An educational computer would also need built in Atari software, or at least have some new software written for it. Interestingly, an MP3 player wouldn't need any Atari software as it would be sold on the pretence of playing music. It would then be down to the user to download software from the internet. An MP3 player would probably outsell a games console anyway.
  12. Forget the FB3. What we need is an Omni handheld with 2600, 5200, 7800 and 800 compatibility. The joypad could have a bezel style paddle around it with a notch underneath to slide a flat potentiometer inside.
  13. Hi. I'm selling a PAL version of Galaxian (cartridge only) for 99p + UK delivery only. Tested and working perfectly. Click here for more info: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...E:IT&ih=001
  14. Looks like I bought a dud. I'll give the cart pins one more clean and see what happens. Thanks for the help, guys!
  15. Hi. I've just bought the PAL version of Activisions Chopper Command (a 2600 game) and found that it doesn't work on my 7800 The 7800 just loads the built in Asteroids game instead. Has anyone else experienced problems with Chooper Command on the 7800, or have I just bought a dud? Thanks
  16. It's pure nostalgia for me. I sometimes play them, but not that often.
  17. They've just released a re-mastered version of the original WarGames for the 25th anniversary.
  18. Does anyone know if the Atari operating systems are still protected by copyright. If not, then could they be re-written?
  19. I'm beginning to think that Atari will never make another hardware product. I emailed them a link to the "build a new Atari computer" thread to see if I could re-kindle their interest in a new/retro product. Guess we'll have to wait and see. http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?s...5035&st=250
  20. It looks like this is to promote the new 25th anniversary DVD: http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/33820/warga...ersary-edition/
  21. Great idea. How about... Terrorists steal the WOPR/Joshua computer from an old military warehouse so they can use it to launch missiles against the U.S. The terrorists switch on the Joshua computer then realise that nobody knows the password. Joshua is aware that he is no longer in the U.S and starts to 'phone' other computers that he used to be in contact with back in the 80's. Unfortunatley, none of them can communicate with him because his modem is too slow. Finally, Joshua calls David (Matthew Broderick's character) thinking he is Professor Falken. David now lives with his wife and children in the house that was previousley owned by his parents (his parents retired to florida ) At first, David thinks that the noise coming down the phone line is a fault and hangs up. However, Joshua contines to call all night. David reports the fault to the phone company but the engineer cannot find a problem. The next day, Davids kids are playing some old games that they downloaded onto their new games console and ask their father what games were like when he was a kid. David tells them about how he played games with other computers by plugging the computer into the phone line. He starts to think about the strange calls he had been receiving all night and wonders if they were from a computer that was trying to contact his old computer. He fetches his old computer equipment from out of the attic and sets it up. Later that day he gets a call from Joshua. He connects the phone to the acoustic coupler modem and a familiar message appears on the screen. "Greetings Professor Falken". Meanwhile, the terrorists notice Davids phone number on the WOPR screen and believe that Joshua has contacted Professor Falken. They trace the number then return to America to kidnap David who they believe is Professor Falken......
