I'm amazed Parsec(not Beyond...) is getting such a bad rep. Yeah, looking back it's no R-Type, but it had a bit more depth than say, Car Wars. The Atarisoft games were a sight for sore eyes back then. They were significantly better than the usual round of games we're used to. TI-Runner was good, even though you had double-height dudes.A pretty darn good LodeRunner clone. What amazes me are the games I discovered only a few years ago. A Boulder Dash clone? Oh heck yes.

RJ I completely agree with you. Once the podcasts get a bit youtubey, I switch over to songs when I'm at work, or working on the yard/garage. With audio podcasts, there's the advantage of less system resources/hard drive space & post-production costs than there is on making a YouTube video. You can sit back with a friend or 2 and just have a good gab about video games, like a decent radio show. Plus, YouTube is getting so dang slow with the lack of real-time streaming bandwidth. Let's reel it back in a bit.

I sub to classic L337 as well(think it's covered somewhere in this podcast). A good straightforward podcast. Podcasters, let's not lose focus of the original topic of your podcast: video games. A little less "subscribers", "youtube channel", and "final fantasy"(cuz I have to say that) and more game reviews/discussion. Meta level too high!

It's too bad there was this divide of "casual" TI-99/4A users who never bothered to invest in the pricey & bulkey PEB. Like casual & hardcore gamers. I didn't go "hardcore" until '86! I remember Wizard's Dominion being a terrible attempt at an RPG for the TI. The mazes were dirt-simple. It had nowhere near the depth of Tunnels of Doom.

Spoiler-free discussion on Fallout:New Vegas

You notice the quasi-perks at the beginning of the game when you do your character? Each had an advantage + disadvantage. Just like how it was in Fallout 1+2. -
Old Game Plus is trying way too hard to be like Retronauts, talking too much about Retronauts, Retronauts Final Fantasy Mega Man Retronauts......

Spoiler-free discussion on Fallout:New Vegas

I swore in F3 it perked you every other level. I'm already planning out what stat routes to take so I can get that one perk for sneak attack criticals. I also want Mine Sidestep. Went out to track supplies for something and suddenly 3 Legion guys popped out of nowhere. Game seems to like having people sneak up on ME. -
The latest AllGen Gamers episode is terrible. So far, almost no video game discussion. What's there? Interviewing another YouTuber to talk about Youtube fame. I'm getting tired of this YouTube circle-jerking. "And what's your youtube channel for the listeners?" ad nauseum.

Spoiler-free discussion on Fallout:New Vegas

So as a general rule, hollow point for pickin' off varmints? Time for me to make some. Will it work on radscorpions? Also, I had one game lockup when I was leaving the mojave post in Primm. darn. -
Listening to that last episode of retronauts...wait I realized I fast-fwded through 40 minutes of it. I won't miss it. It came off lately as so dang smug. Oooh you have insights into Japanese RPGs that involve Final Fantasy! Ooh game industry talk! I'm sure you're an icebreaker at parties. I'm starting to like podcasts that have no affiliations with gaming journalism.

Spoiler-free discussion on Fallout:New Vegas

I'm kind of on the same wagon with the no new discoveries in F:NV compared to 3. But you know what? Part of me doesn't care. I play it to pass the time, so that is just what I will do. Obviously F:NV had some gigantic shoes to fill after the success of 3. Last night I was stuck between a tree & rock. Couldn't get out. 2 Radscorpions cornered me and almost did me in. Thankfully, fast travel gets you out of that. I see now there's the "rep" system you can have with individual factions, a bit more clearly spelled out than in F3. I'm sure there's some replay value by taking opposite stances with said factions than before. Is it me, or does the NV map seem significantly smaller than the F3 map? It seems smaller than the F2 map which was basically the same rough area. -
Okay, let's try our best not to spoil Fallout:New Vegas. With all the media it's receiving, it's really difficult to avoid. I wanna discover the fun quirks on my own, not on some two-bit gaming website. So far, I'm impressed. It's fun to be back in the saddle of the Fallout universe. Couple questions: 1) What's the easiest way of determining whether you picked up a book(perm skill increase) or a magazine(temp?)? I would like to keep the magazines on standby for needed skill-boosts when I run into a safe/computer, etc. But what stands out for a book? 2) What's the best ammo to use on animals? I know it's not the armor-piercing type. But what's the distinctive label for non-ap? 3) What does the red shield mean in VATS next to an enemy's health? 4) Where do I find out my karma? I can't seem to find it normally where I would expect it in F3.

Killing time until Fallout: New Vegas

I'm enjoying it right now. WOW does Gamestop need to stop hassling at every transaction: 1) I wanted the collector's edition. The kid quickly whipped out the regular one. But in his defense, there might not be any record on my preorder that I specifically wanted the collector's edition(but I said so originally at pre-ord time) 2) I don't want your dang membership card. Even the free version 3) I don't want to pre-order anything else. The kid was like pickin' future games out of his butt. Maybe I'll pre-order from somewhere else next time. I just want my dang game. -

On the 360 version, I only had lockups when I was getting to a certain building. Took me 4 or 5 tries to get inside said building without lockups. Once I got in, I did a progressive save. At one point, I had saved 1137 times. With all the dang branching that can go on, you can easily have 20 saves or so. -
And here's a terrible pair of photos of the finished product Sadly, flash vs. no flash hides the 3 lit bulbs & what's on the Garmin screen(just stolen screenshots). Ingredients: Folgers can for the "around the wrist" housing Battery box I found at Ax Man. Complete with battery holder + switch + wires! many cable ties box the garmin came in some part from a computer case for reinforced backing silver spray paint black spray paint 2 hose clamps bottle from dishwasher rinse aid for plastic(behind the battery box) bottle of Pert Plus for the 3-light holder 3 lights from the old Pip Boy bolt + nut + random knob for the knob assembly part of a plastic panel from a computer case for the plate behind knob(there wasn't one before) duct tape piece cut from a plastic car battery top(not part of the batt itself) Glove: isotoner glove I found. Killing time until Fallout: New Vegas

Anyone get a text message from Gamestop saying it would be available on Monday at midnight(so thus, Tuesday)? I doubt gamestop's going to have a midnight opening. -
What is wrong with your controller? If it's the thin-film circuitry probably not. This one has a pretty bad burn spot in the middle where it appears to have shorted out. And I've not tried cleaning it with anything to see if it can be revived. Otherwise everything is there. My controller is missing the rubber 3 top buttons + the CV joint boot for the joystick. That, and it dun work at all. Yep, it's a 5200 controller.

Beyond Parsec was terrible since it was nothing like the original. It was 2-player only, basically being a dumbed down horizontal shooter version of Space War. Moon Mine, once you look past the fancy graphics(compared to other games), was a way-too-simple "shoot the sprite" game. I actually enjoyed Munchmobile. It was at least different than the usual offerings.

Chislom Trail had potential to be a TI version of Targ/Spectar. But then it throws dick moves at you like having a laser fire from the outer edge volcanoes.

I actually went for the deluxe edition pre-order. I wanted that lunchbox from F3 so badly. heh. I'm one wiring fix + isotoner glove(if I can find it) away from my Pip-Boy Mk2 prop halloween costume. -
I play the game of [Hide Farmville/mafiawars ripoff] on my FB account settings.

For that dead controller, I wonder if it has enough parts to get my dead controller Frankenstein'd together.

OT: Why does the German Atari catalog have a 5200(?) version of Pole Position showing on the TV when the console shown is the 2600?

For those who can't tell if they have flakey controllers or a bad controller chip, what pins could one hook up to a voltmeter off the controller plug to see what readouts I should get? I have 2 regular + 2 super action controllers, even after a good cleaning, still act weird.
