  1. Yep, that's the one to avoid Another podcast almost entered the ring! Hardcore Gaming 101 - Enjoy downloading them through rapidshare, etc. This one has too many voices competing for each other, trying a lot of obscure Japanese game references(think Retronauts), with too many Final Fantasy references per episode. I can't make it through a whole episode. But, alas, no new episodes are coming. You can skip this one: D-
  2. Same costume, but with a mild alteration so the crotch inseam isn't up my ass this time. I really should have test-worn it when I first got the thing.
  3. That's when these come in handy. Ooh I like that. I just remember buying a handful of single-ones at IKEA & using them whenever the need calls. Really, the wall-wart thing is a cost cutting measure by companies I know, but it's a big pain in the ass. Not only that, I swear electronics manufacturers pay extra to make sure the product it plugs into is never EVER mentioned on the off-the-shelf power supply. Heaven help you if you mix them up. I'm now resorting to a piece of masking tape & labeling them.
  4. Hath the prophecy come true? http://hackaday.com/2010/10/05/munchausen-makes-nes-a-cartridge-programmer/ Nah, probably not. This is far removed from the rather blurry product vision of a ROM maker that's as easy as dragging & dropping GUI elements into something that somehow magically makes a game. Reminds me of that tech support story that the mom said his kid was going to grow up to be a computer programmer/graphic designer. How? By typing into the computer "draw a tree on the screen" and it magically draws a tree on the screen, all context intact.
  5. Awesome. I did that with a Famiclone as well. The only thing you then need is a short extension cord if your power supply is a wall-wart(112% that it is).
  6. At the last retro gaming party I went to last weekend, there was a bona-fide Xybots there. A friend and I got to the last level. If you die on the final boss level, you get kicked back 5 levels. I listened to most of the episode. I didn't find her too annoying(Chad of retroforce go holds that title), but yeah she seemed kinda snobbish. She works for some video game website, which IMO de-credentials you. Don't bother with the latest episode of AllGengamers. It's so far 99% YouTube fame talk, and nothing so much about video games. I don't update my iTunes to often(like, weekly) and I get a stampede of podcasts to download, steeming with "what's new on virtual console", "Mega man", "what are you playing now?" heh

    LogoWriter!

I remember LogoWriter in elementary on an Apple //.
  8. If you're gonna say that about a podcast, now I HAVE to go listen to hear this bitmob ep. Think I once subscribed to it, but it didn't meet the retro threshold. Is it mobcast 73? Right after I finish this almost back-to-back released episode of Retrogaming Roundup.
  9. One problem I see is the heavy dilution of video game websites. No, I don't mean this site. This site has 100% merit for classic video gaming. I'm talking about all the "me too" video gaming websites. A dime gets you THREE dozen sites: 1up, joystiq, kotaku, gamespot, etc. Guess what? It's all the same content Way too many times I see no original content, but instead, as you said, rehashing of press releases. OOh, a DLC came out for some game! Why is this news, and why does 1up, via koatku, via the publisher's press release need to tell me? What is the "journalism" game site bring to the table? A crappy comments section that has 15 year olds duking it out for a battle of wits? Let's see something original. One nicely forgotten site is thevideogamecritic.net, who has no advertising I can find, and probably no kickback of hookers & blow from any remaining video game developers. Probably because they review very old games where the publishers are long gone. But I digress. Modern gaming "news" sites are no better than a customized RSS feed for whatever frickin' DS game came out this week, or what's going to be on virtual console next week. Slap a screenshot, a quickly copied paragraph, and suddenly you are a journalist. If your gaming site has a "ps3 xbox ds wii" navigation bar on it, you fail.
  10. S1500, unless you turn the box inside out, USPS won't ship anything in a beer/liquor box. Morgan Even if I write in really big letters "THIS IS NOT BEER" on it? Can I just cover it up in wrapping paper to make it look like a present? Reason being, I have a few 12-pack bottle boxes that get thrown in the recycling anyway. It seems like a perfectly decent-size box to ship away these games + my 5200 controller later on with.
  11. With the bunch of 2600 carts(with zombie scarred labels) I'm ready to pack up a beer 12 pack box & ship 'em to you as well.
  12. I noticed Matthew Perry(of Friends fame)is a voice actor in this. Think I know the reason why. There was some story many months ago he got carpal tunnel from playing Fallout 3 so much. Pretty cool you love a game so much you get to be a part of it on the sequel.
  13. Hey wait a minute, you're not mynxy!

  14. I hate these stupid meta-item auctions. For $130, you could buy an actual 360, instead of jumping through affiliate programs, where there's a chance you wouldn't get one anyway.
  15. Getting there. Part of the housing broke when I put the Garmin in. But I can compensate. Still need to make the light setup. Battery box is on the left side(with a switch you can't see). Besides a real screen, it has 2 hose clamps(1 mounted right now) to secure it to my arm without rolling down 180 degrees due to weight. Cut at the bottom under the wrist to tighten to fit. Will line with old shirt sleeves. Garmin plays a slideshow of Pip boy screenshots. Paint consists of way too glittery silver, so I added a light coat of flat black to give it more of a dirty, beat-up look. Lousy pic attached.
  16. Medieval Madness Fun House Star Trek: TNG Twilight Zone
  17. It's too bad they didn't do more with the MBX in terms of games. The joystick unit was all forms of awesome, with 4 buttons + dial. The voice recognition was equally awesome. How long did we have to wait before we saw that again in gaming(Seaman?). There were plenty of buttons on that console(that hooked up to the headset) to work with.
  18. My Pip-Boy Mk 2(yes, I'm re-using my Halloween costume since Fallout:New Vegas is coming out 2 weeks beforehand) is being constructed, with numerous improvements. Just need time to finish things.
  19. I wouldn't be surprised if it has a lot of common DNA with the Dingoo A320, based on what you said. It looks like a A320 in a PSP's body. Mind you, the A330 is just like that, but white. Most likely some Chinese factory was making official Sony PSP molds, and then did a private run of their own(with no UMD, etc) to make these. It sounds like a better deal than the PSP ever was! 70? That's $30 less than the A320. Not bad! Emulation? I'm all over that. Some of these Chinese unofficial limited-run knockoffs are in some ways better than the usual commercial game console(portable or not) offerings.
  20. Because it doesn't provide what most users looking for, the feature of it "just works". You try to get the BIOS files right, get some worthwhile games(with hopefully the file extension it will recognize), fiddle through the sometimes difficult GUI, and..nothing. It claims to support all these different consoles & computers, only to have them not work. You try a dedicated one like WinVICE, and it "just works", with minimal effort on the user's part. It's just not for Vic20. It's too bad since it has that nice pane on the right to select your favorite rom, instead of a less-convenient standard Windows open dialog.
  21. I just grab their RSS feed URL(too many acronyms, jeesh) & subscribe directly in Itunes.
  22. They mentioned a 3-page topic on here about other podcasts, mentioned from some email. I think it was the '2 worthy podcasts' thread. It has to be!
  23. Nope, pressing my finger into where the 3 rubber buttons on top should be does not work. Darn.
  24. Saw it on craigslist, went for it. It was easy to spot as it was the only ad not selling a 360. What I got: 2-port model 1 non-working 5200 stick 4 5200 games(river raid, frogger 2, super break out, pac man) and get this... 22 2600 games. 2 of them Warlords! Ugh. All commons(some sears ones in there). None of it is clean. I now have to google what to clean this with. The 5200 console itself is in okay condition. Somehow, the plastic wrap over the metal part has survived, which is odd considering the rotting zombie labels on everything else. The 5200 controller has no start/reset/etc buttons on it, the shift boot is gone. This is going to take some elbow grease to clean up. $50. Yeah, I paid too much. Here's the picture. Wonder what I can trade off in the 22 game lot(or anything else in dupe stock) to get some 5200 stuff. Hmm.
  25. Quick answer: no. From what I've seen here, you can get considerable debt, ie negative income, from trying to make homebrews when things don't go right.
