  1. So I thought I would sleep in this morning, and a weird dream happened.

I was at my usual coffee spot(Caribou), and for some reason there was a neighborhood electronics recycling event going on. There was only a few people there, and just some tables of stuff. I look closer and see some 2600 & 5200 loose carts. Nothing exciting. See a few boxed TI games in the distance. I look under the table, and see storage tubs full of stuff. I spot a Vectrex! I put 2 controllers in my hoodie's pockets. I pick up what I thought was a Vectrex, but it was some toy robot with a small CRT display in the neck/head area. I put that down and look for the actual Vectrex. I put down my hoodie & cell phone for some reason. Another table has a bunch of boxed 2600 games, with a plastic sleeve around them(like comic books have). Feels like I hit the jackpot! I go back to my hoodie & pick up my phone. The case for my phone is there, but no phone. Someone replaced my cell phone with cardboard filling from one of the Atari game boxes.

And then I woke up(slept only 1 hour).

Strange dream. I need a new hobby.

  2. Retro East Podcast - Thought the Apple //e was the "online" edition. Lots of cussing, and not very well researched. C-

The Legend of Retro Podcast - ever do an unfunny joke and stretch it out for the whole course of an episode? That's what they did with the "old guy" voice. That was the only bad thing about it. C-

Retro Junkies Minis - familiar voices and a nice short length make for a great bite-sized episde. A

Expect more podcast reviews with the word "retro" in them. Some of them are already discontinued.

  3. The one time I went there, the change machine was out of order. Of all the machines to go out of order. So I only got to play one game, and that was Bally's Rapid Fire. I can see why that game & Hyperball didn't get more made.

CCW's concept is great. I hope they keep on the up & up about pinball, having the machines work properly, not charging too much(EM games should top out at .25) and having as many amusment devices as room allows.

Also, they need to serve name brand cola. Their homemade cola is awful.

  4.

I learned that if you ever want to become instantly depressed at a video game convention, just ask: "How much for that Vectrex?"

I told that to Sean Kelly, and he laughed and said, "I guess the one I'm asking $460 for won't make you feel much better!"

I remember buying one for $150 in '96(loose console). Later sold it to Crazy Climber.

That's still cheaper than the 2 Japanese Vectrex units I saw in Japan. CIB: $1700 a piece.

  5. There is a mode button on the right, which is used to switch back to 3 button mode for a handful of games that are not compatible (Ms. Pac-man, Golden Axe 2 etc...) and some games use the mode button as an additional "action" button (Beyond Oasis, Fatal Fury 2, Etc...). Sounds like you are thinking of the Sega Saturn controller, which had 2 shoulder buttons used solely for game play.

Saturn. That's gotta be it. Maybe my memory was clouded a bit for the fact the SNES had shoulder buttons.

  6. Weird to see Nintendo officially there. but with all the retro gaming podasts talking about the Switch, it should be no surprise.

Atari carts were less & less common, but at no surprise. I think I collected all 7 Atari 5200 carts. Got Time Pilot for the Coleco. Also some obscure 2600 game(infiltrate?) for 1 dollar. I heard 2 mentions of Commando for the 7800, which is apparently rare.

Also introduced chrisbd to Hughes from The Retro League. Doing my best to cross-pollinate podcasters.

Got a Apple //gs manual for 5 bucks, where before they wanted the whole //gs manual stack for 45. Uh, no.
