walmart offering vintage nes?
S1500 replied to CARTRIDGE STEALER's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I only once went Black Friday shopping, but it was moreso being asked to go shopping during the time of BF. It wasn't some huge stampede of housewives and screaming kids. I frankly don't see the appeal of Black Friday. It's mostly things that are discounted a bit, but not by any significant eye-raising amount. Ooh, $50 off a laptop. There's plenty of better deals on the web 365 days a year, and it's not all clearance stuff. Bring on the "me too" deals like coffee for 10 cents off a cup. CONSUME -
Oops, I gotta boot my main machine back up to finish the download.

I accidentally did some parts of a quest involving lighting torches. This sadly summoned some fire-spewing Mothra-like rakk who can basically kill me in 1 shot. How do you get rid of it? I had to retreat to some other map to escape it. If you see some tiki torches, don't just light them for fun. There's a monster that will chase you all over the map.

There was a C compiler IIRC, it was called C99. Let's not forget the p-code card.

At Terrrget. Does anyone remember these back in the day? When I was a wee lad, I remember going to Target and seeing these small, shiny gold cardboard box games for the Commodore 64. I didn't have a C64, so I never bought 'em. But I remember seeing these for MANY MANY years at Target for sale. What's the story behind them? It's akin to finding NIB Genesis games at a Kmart in 2006.

I can use the Super action controllers? Hmm, I'll have to give that a try. But wasn't the gas pedal analog?
-
I just bought Turbo for 3 bucks. He was nice to knock down the price from $3.95. Haven't fired it up yet, but does it require the steering controller? If so, darn.

I'm getting 50k/second down here. Not bad.

I forgot the name of the game, but it wasn't Astrosmash. It was some lesser-known Space Invaders-like game where invaders descend neatly into vertical tubes. I submitted the game's name to KLOV so it's referenced there. How many other music videos feature arcade cabs? I know Three O'Clock's "Jet Fighter" shows MACH 3 game footage. Now that's a rare game to be seen.

The wrestling forum on here struck me as odd. -
SOCOM had some uninspiring voice bits when you tossed a grenade. A lackluster "outgoing!".

So it's like Double Dragon for the 2600 then? -

Awesome. Buh bye Auctions, marketplace & wrestling forums(huh?)? -
Is there some modern-day, freeware equivalent of Shoot 'Em Up Construction kit? One for Windows?

Atari really didn't want to get involved in RPGs, did they? But hey, why not buy our new system so you can play Pac Man again!

I finally stumbled upon 2 video game(classic of course) podcasts that doesn't feel like 2 icepacks shoved into my eardrums. The Retro League - They have a podcast. It's typically NES on up, but still worth listening to. Racketboy This one's also worth listening to. They interviewed Eugene Jarvis. Can't get more classic(ie before the NES) than that. They switched co-hosts on Retrocore. Colin, that one who sounds like a fast food drive-through order taker, has been replaced by a female co-host. She has better sound quality and doesn't suck up to Chris, which is all Colin did. Perhaps upgrade this from "worst podcast evar" to "don't listen". RetroforceGO! supposedly has discontinued. No more BAAHHAAHAHHH from Jeremy.

Joining up with higher level players really is an exercise in futility. Higher-leveled enemies take pretty much ZERO damage from your guns. Guess I'll just host a game and play like normal. If someone joins, the more the merrier.

digitpress.com has some soundbytes.

I'm on level 17. It is REALLY hard to connect to an online game, and 99% of the time, it's a mission that's way ahead of your progress. However, if you do connect & help out, you can get a ton of XP by just being there. Also, other players will drop nicer weapons for you. Great when you are in a really difficult spot(Ie Arid area) on solo mode.

Atari 2600 games and crazy climber handhelds LAST DAY OF SALES!
S1500 replied to crg3d's topic in Auction Central
I just wish we could unsubscribe from the Marketplace & Auctions sections entirely. -
I do agree with mos on the porting of the same games over and over. For every port of pac man(that never existed before for said console), there's about 10 games in MAME(or not emulated yet) that get forgotten. Take out all the space invaders dupes & bootlegs, and there's tons of fun original coin-op games that have been forgotten. Some would be nice to see on the home console. Some would be nice to see spruced-up to be more console-friendly, ie not engineered to eat your quarter after 3 minutes.

I admit, 32-player simul play for a console game in the 90s is ahead of its time. This before Xbox Live & PSN or late-90s games like Counterstrike, etc. Too bad the game is so insanely expensive and being able to find 31 other people that have Jaguars + network hardware to do it. Too bad there's no emulator + internet connectivity to do it.
-
Its much better than a Playstation 3!!!! I'm not surprised at all you would say that. But has there actually been a documented incident of 32 players going at it with this game? I mean, you do have to do QA testing on said claim. Now if you excuse me, I have a demolition derby to compete in, consisting of only Ferarri Enzos and Bugatti Veyrons. I'm gonna make that prancing horse split in half!
-
It had to be done. If you wanted to do full 32 player, you would need at least 12 large. That doesn't include the consoles + Tvs & network hardware. Wow.

The problem I would run into is proper grounding and not short circuiting anything in said case. I'm no expert on grounding stuff. It has a full 2x 5.25 inch bay for putting in drives of my choice. The power cord connector is the same as it always has been on PCs. The card slots for the TI will need to be Dremel'd out as they aren't even close to a match for standard "PC" card slots. I wonder if I can just gut out the heavy transformer on the left side & stick in a modern day power supply. Switch out the noisy fan for a modern one. The power switch will have to be switched out for a soft switch. Added difficulty: The PEB is built like a Sherman tank. Ah fun fun fun. Sure, I won't be able to read TI-994/A disks anymore, but think of the retro factor!
