I like how they portrayed the occasional frustrations in the game, such as item exchanges, dead ends, etc.

Katt Williams on the Economics of Console Gaming
S1500 replied to FlightSuit's topic in Classic Console Discussion
He's no stranger to video games, being on GTA4. -
Actually, a classic computing would be a good compromise as well. Tons of old computer games & such to talk about. Would get more traffic than the "atari flashback consoles" subforum.

This list is terrible. This is just a list of consoles. There's no "top of all time" really, as many negative things are said about them right in the content. Don't worry, one of millions of gaming websites(or pc world) will post their list.

As someone who had and just re-bought a TI, this is pretty dang cool.

I say we make this subforum. It's totally in line. I've seen some other sub-forums on here go unused for a long time, but I think Apple // would get a lot of use.

Fallout's(1 and 2) turn-based combat is no fun in early levels. Monsters can get up(from being knocked down), race towards you, THEN get multiple swipes on you. Jeesh!

No scrolling? Then you can just make it Route 16.

Arcade Home Conversions not released as mame roms?
S1500 replied to Foxsolo2000's topic in Arcade and Pinball
It's astonishing how many arcade games have been released since the 70s. It's amazing there's still tons of obscure games most nobody ever heard of that have yet to be emulated. THAT many freakin' coin-ops were made? Wow. -
Anyone need PS2 component cables?
S1500 replied to Warriorisabouttodie's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
I have a set of PS2 component cables, and even trying with 2 TVs + controller sequence on startup, I never got a singal out of them. What's the trick? -
RetroGamingRoundup August 09 Podcast NOW LIVE!
S1500 replied to Parrothead's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I didn't get any response from my email to them. I sent it to them in a non-negative tone, highlighting some clarifications and such about Midnight Madness. I normally butcher these video game related podcasts, but this RGR wasn't so bad. What confused me was there's a pinball-themed podcast. That's normally fine, but how do they have 64 2-hour episodes of them? -
Which consoles lose the most through emulation?
S1500 replied to thegoldenband's topic in Classic Console Discussion
One emulation annoyance factor has been the ROMs. I have this Atari 2600 ROM collection, problem is, it has EVERY variation of every game ever known. I don't need 8 copies of 3-D Tic Tac Toe, 4 of them being PAL variants. Someday I gotta trim down to just 1 copy/game. I just like downloading 1 zip file with all the ROMs. Most of the time, you only find those zippies on P2p exchange networks, not on websites. -
RetroGamingRoundup August 09 Podcast NOW LIVE!
S1500 replied to Parrothead's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Heh. This episode wasn't as bad. Of course, totally skip the British hour(childish & not video game related) . I enjoyed the (rather lengthly ramp-up) nod to Midnight Madness, and even emailed some corrective bits. But yeah, the drop-outs in that section were annoying to hear. Not as bad as the obscene phone caller that lasted 2 episodes with Jerri. -
I am still averaging 2-3 hours per night playing Fallout 2, and I'm nowhere near finished. Here's some fun observations. 1. This game really likes to throw TONS of enemies at you on random encounters. I did a cattle run and ran into some supermutants + critters. They basically killed off most of my troops. There was a point where 1 floater + 3 soldiers were a stalemate, doing zero damage to each other perpetually. I had to deliver the final kill. To add insult to injury, the soldiers were on edge with my weapon out and turned on me! I never got the all clear signal from the leader, and thus I just ended up "on the map". 2. I can't find Vic's radio, and contrary to the wiki, any old radio won't do. 3. This game is generous with companions. I already lost Sulik + a ghoul to battles. You really shouldn't put quest items in their hands when they die, especially on a cattle run. Cuz it's gone forever. You are tempted to use them as pack mules for quest items as it frees up room on your weight. Another companion(a deathclaw) ran out on me on emergency. Sadly, I had no chance to get any goodies from him before he left. Myron's a whiney bastard. Cassidy is absolutely deadly with a CAWS shotgun. 4. I hate the wanamingos. I hate groups of 7-8 supermutants. There was more than one occasion I was being ganged up on that normally would have killed an unmodded character. I did find an exploit to this. If there's an elevator, get them to chase you to the elevator, switch floor(thus you + buddies escape), and you can heal up. Go back, and they will be around you. BUT, launch an explosive rocket at one, and all of 'em blow up, raining down mutant guts. 5. It's easy to tick off otherwise friendly people, thus having tons of people take shots at you. But if you save early & often, this will not be a problem. They get touchy about weapons drawn in NCR. Still chuggin' away. Some quests are dead ends even with the wiki, but I'm making overall progress.

I have 2 famiclones that have the typical DB9 connectors. Haven't tried the controllers with each other yet, but I was wondering, is there a known diagram of the pinouts of these?
-
Had this been offered when I bought the 360 AND it had backwards compatibility, I would have bought it without question. From a competitive perspective, this is what Sony should have offered from the getgo. But probably there were many cost factors prohibiting this.

Wanted: Arcade Photos Circa 1977-1984
S1500 replied to VectorGamer's topic in Gaming Publications and Websites
Don't have the URLs on me, but look up any pages about the "Time Out" chain of arcades. There seems to be no shortage of pictures of them, and they are in the time period you described. -
The local Best Buy is already selling PS3 Slims
S1500 replied to MagitekAngel's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I like how GameStop, a store chain devoted to video game stuffs doesn't have PS3s before Best Buy, a general electronics & energy drink retailer does. -
Many moons ago, I went to the state fair and there was this rather unique coinop where you fly through some tunnel thing. Well, the game broke, and this employee had to come out with a keyboard & mouse. I actually saw it reboot & it was indeed Windows 2000, and she had to go through plenty of "New hardware found" dialogs. So what other coinops ran Windows 2000? Guess that kind of eliminates the need for MAME. Heh.

I think I used the wrong term. When I click a "view new content" and I don't want to see new messages in forum Xyz(Marketplace, for instance), where would I set that? in the upgrades, it reset itself.
-
Here's what I get: "You are not subscribed to any forums at present"
-
I can't seem to find it anywhere. it seems with the forum upgrades, effort was taken to change the wording around for numerous things, but still the same hoops must be jumped through to unsubscribe from a forum. I'd like to tighten things up on the sub. So, how does one do it? Talk to me.. much love.and good night.
