  1. A new podcast kinda showed up.

    Emulate This

A podcast that covers retro all the way up to the Xbox one. So I expect the Nintendo Switch train to be rolling in soon.

Sadly, this one's overproduced and much too morning zoo crew-like. It doesn't compensate for lack of good retro gaming talk. Atari 2600 controller's the logo for the show. I'm not sure they are worthy of it. The opening theme song makes no sense to me.

As for Coin Rejects, they jokingly introduced a drinking game any time an f-bomb is dropped. Several f-bombs were dropped for it. Then some movie clips were played at the end of the episode consisting of their favorite word in the world. I have now permanently altered this podcast, just from ONE review. Heh.

  2. The point is there are plenty of MODERN podcasts that can freely & openly discuss the Switch, it has no business being on a retrogaming podcast.

This. I don't mind a little bit of modern talk here & there, but when just about every retro gaming podcast is pausing any normal discussion to gush over the Switch, it can get a bit annoying. Thankfully, Throwback Network podcasts don't do this. :)

Next week, we will discuss the confusion I experience with double-named podcasts. Which one is it? It's like Firefox vs. Mozilla. Why not just stick to one name? "You're listening to the RetroJockBros podcast, part of RetroChet Podcast. Blah blah blah Nintendo Switch". Uh. Huh?

  3. Spy Hunter memories:

Many moons ago, I was at an arcade at Har Mar Mall, and they had a Spy Hunter there. I remember this teenage girl standing at the machine, guarding it, but not playing it. I was only to assume she was holding it for her boyfriend named Todd. Go ahead and guard it. It's a game you'll lose in 2 minutes anyway.

Spy Hunter is a great looking game with the cab, sounds, graphics, etc. but the difficulty is brutal. The hi/low gear & analog foot pedal gives you speed controls of "fast" and "way too fast". Cars come at you where you don't have time to dodge or shoot your way out.

Remember being told the wivestale of a 3rd stage: You are in the sky. It would go from land, sea, then sky. Uh, no.

The DOS version of SH was super-strict on how it ran. I didn't have much luck.

The pinball version is strange. Really weird layout.

  4. Haven't heard anything about the MOA visit. But I'm sure we'll hear an RCade radio episode with lots of self-admiration about it. :)

Listening to the CU podcast with just Pat the NES punk. If he was a car engine, he would be in the redline all the time. Also a bit reminded of political talk show hosts who are always angry. But it's video games, it's a hobby.

  5. Funny. For my birthday, I treated myself to The Witcher 3 and Mad Max. W3 was $30, and MM was $10. I'm now putting more time into Mad Max than anything else.

This game's a grind fest. It's been mostly rewarding doing all the side missions(reducing threat levels) before doing any story misisons.

However, this game is really lacking in depth. It is the anti-Fallout of post-apoc games. The boss battles are horrible. But after figuring out what you need to do, I at least got past 1.

Saturday night, instead of playing more MM, I rented it off of Google Play(Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior). That movie still holds up after all these years, with great cinematography & being genuinely a scary movie. I remember being too scared to watch it on TV as a kid(when it aired on NBC). I'm still amazed this movie spawned numerous imiators. MM: Beyond Thunderdome is however, forgettable, being the "Temple of Doom" of MM movies.
