  1. Have USB ports become the new "low power" jack for things?

Micro USB is a terrible idea. I can understand wanting a thinner cable, but on so many tablets, the flimsy, paper-thin Micro USB plug wears out first and isn't easily replaceable, leaving the entire tablet useless.

@jaybird3rd you are so correct, I got one tablet that only the wires stick out, terrible idea. I can still charge it, but barely.

Yeah MicroUSB seems to be the big thing for 5v power, and I hate 'em because they're so thin that they always split on the ends and cause issues.

  2. Interesting that they have ones for Atari Flashback consoles.
  3. Thought: What could be done to various consoles to tether them/lock down when they are for public play at conventions? 99% of the time said hardware's going to be safe anyway, but what about an extra precaution so it won't get swiped off the floor like a stack of CDs? One would think of addtiions to a console, but not alterations(no Dremeling) where it would have holes permanently cut in it, etc. Maybe a safety wire +washer on screw connections? Dunno. Then lock it down to the exhibit table.

After the big AtariAge update, you won't be able to use your cheat mods anymore.

  5. I'm announcing a new KickStarter: WaterStream. It works just like SodaStream, but just puts water into your bottle. It's the healthier alternative.

    1. SpiceWare

      SpiceWare

I used to like SodaStream, but they changed to smaller syrup bottles (make 7 liters instead of 12) for the *same price*, and got rid of and/or reformulated the flavors I liked.

You mean w/o the CO2? Finally! Somebody who understands that global warming is caused by the fizz in sodas!

No bubbles, just water. So really, it's just a thing that puts water into something else. A DVD rewinder for a new generation.

  6. I forgot the name right now, but I stayed at some hipsterish motel that let you write on the doors with chalk. I was able to just walk to the convention center, and hit some dive bars on the way back.
  7. Time to drive from twin cities-Chiago area: 1 SPB episode.
  8. I remember when klov was just a text file. I read through it on a Zeos palmtop while in college. Those were the days.
  9. I should do a road trip to the Chi town area sometime this year, just to hit said arcades. Take the tour.
  10. Was that the first troll mail sent ever to a podcast? Heh.
  11. I think you should go full retro computing and give it a cute nickname, or some acronym like they did with Whiz Kids. That gives you true street cred.
  12. I'm coding a homebrew video game, just working out the fallout & controversy that will stem from it when the copies run out.

  13. So I was enjoying emulated games on the Wii, and had to use the Wii Classic controller. The right direction on the d-pad is really flakey. I hold it dowh, and it stops responding after a while. I do a rapid tap left to test, and it's 100% responsive. I do it on the right, and it's getting only half the # of taps. It even sounds different when I tap it. This controller has very little mileage on it. What should I be looking at if I pop it open to give 'er a fix? Also I must remind myself to disconnect the GameCube controller & try it again fresh. I'm wondering if the system having three D-pads as input on the system is messing things up on emulators. Discovered the issue when I was playing SNES Doom where I couldn't rotate right continually(it stopped after a second), where I can do that left-direction just fine. At least I can still enjoy older systems that have fewer buttons.
  14. Hilarious reference to Late Night with David Letterman satisfied, on Super Podcast Bros. Complete with actual music in the background.
  15. Dangit, my Wii classic controller's d-pad(right) is flakey. Makes just about any platformer impossible.

I just learned that a Sears store in my general area (Quintard Mall, Oxford, AL) is closing.

It will probably take the whole mall with it: there are already lots of shuttered storefronts in there, and Sears was one of the anchors.

Maybe the annual sales are SO GOOD they can stay in business one more year. I love it when the going out of business signs are obviously old and faded from many years of use.

  17. (no pic right now) "Secret Service" pinball machine. Total private sale. There's some scratches on the cab, but the playfield is in really good condition. Almost have it entirely hooked up. Just gotta look for clarifications on a few connectors.
  18. One of my ideas I never got around to was taking a broken PEB, hollow it out & make it the ultimate retro case mod. You could even re-use the drive bay for an optical drive. But you know I'd get blasted by the community.
  19. Please unload all metal items & such in the tray before entering the AtariAge forums for screening.

Is that Your ColecoVision? Has anybody else touched your ColecoVision? Maybe when you weren't looking?

  20. I enjoyed Assault. Totally forgot to play it at MGC 2015, also playing it back in the early 1990s. But yes, control is key. I'm sure with a bit of control tweaking in MAME + dualshock controller, I can get it setup. Then I can pop tank-wheelies.
  21. I'm starting to think "recent blog entries on this topic" could really get out of hand if everyone did a blogging of this. Or use it for advertising!
  22. In the twin cities, we have DiscLand. Just bought some concert tickets there recently as well. They even have boxed Odyssey 2 games.
  23. I'm ready to unsubscribe from VGBS. Yeah, it's a bit cuss-heavy(okay, more than a bit, perhaps even more than Coin Rejects). Heck, there's cussing in the title. The host did a live one at Midwest Gaming Classic, but it sounds like he was trying too hard to muster any interaction from the crowd. Google's iTunes competitor for managing podcasts still has a lot of work ahead. I've also now heard the "news & views" soundbyte(bg music) you hear on Retrogaming Roundup on 3 podcasts now. Heh.
  24. What's more important than gaming? Youtube channel fame about gaming, said no me ever.

  25. Finally listening to the latest episode of "Good Ol Gamers". It begins with a rather awkward sketch with one of the hosts pretending to be Mike Kennedy pitching a Coleco Chameleon. Yeah.. that's a bit played out at this point.
