  1. Hy all,

just recognized for the first time, that there is some sort of date printing on the bottom flap of some of my red boxes. Are these really the production dates of the games?

    Best

    staberinde

Actually, on some of the pre-red label games, the box print date doesn't (exactly) match-up with the cart manufactured date. So be careful not to assume on these red-label runs that the cart, box and instructions were produced within the same time period. :ponder:

  2. His reply about me picking them up when I pay COD was:

    "NO

I will accept cheque or postal order or bankers draft only

and send the games when the payment has cleared , but they will be securely packaged.

many thanks for your intrest :-)"

Phew! At least they will be securely packaged.

He also states that he is no expert but knows that Glib is by selchow & richter/qdi. So where does it say that on the cart or instructions? Surely he would have written Selchow & Righter Company... ;)

  3. I guess you will have all seen this by now:

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ATARI-2600-GAMES-MEG...1QQcmdZViewItem

The seller (who incidently has zero feedback) mentions:

"i dug these out of the attic"

    "i`m no game expert"

"to me these are just old games"

"i got a friend to test them on his old atari console machine"

"he also said there was a few games here that are quite collectable"

No shit. So, is this the biggest discovery, or just the most blatant scam of recent times? :ponder:

  4. It's not just the red boxes. Nearly all of the Atari boxes have these same date stamps. I mentioned back in

    http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?s...c=74156&hl=

that it is an easy way to determine a variation change by just comparing the date stamp.

The company that did the printing is also on there. I have contacted a few of the companies to find out some of their Atari printing history (runs, dates, quanities etc) but nobody replied. :(

  5. So,

Do we keep a tally of those who own chuckwagon?

For the ayes, we get greater visibility on how many there are. :)

For the nays, we may find it's not so rare after all. :(

Is it better to live in ignorance? Personally I believe in debunking any rarity myths, despite what I paid for this game! :ponder:

  6. I have a copy, and reading through the 'Rarity 8 List' thread an ownership list could look like this:

    kiai

    homerwannabee

    Keir

    Atarimania75

    Crunchysuperman

    20eyes

    Wonder007

    Zeus

    keilbaca

    AtariAger

    MegaManFan

    Trade-N-Games

    CPUWIZ

    therealred5

    black dog

    wrldstrman

    Marco

    MattG/Snyper2099

    Atari-dj

    atari_wizard

    sku_u

Mayhem (well, his other half anyway)

    Ed Siegler

    Waggie

    robsbucs

    ROLENTA

    Zwackery

    plaidbraid3141

    Bruce Tomlin

    neonesmaster (x6)

which is 29/12433 or 0.25% of the AtariAge members.

So, if anybody else would like to contribute their name... :ponder:

  7. I also heard you could play Wii games on your GameCube and Dreamcast games on your Saturn. ;)

Oh yeah? Well I play PS3 games on my record deck. ;) Mind you, they perform no better than PS2 games did. :D

  8. He's just slow and not responsive, and I have sent him high dollar Money Orders in the past before PayPal even existed without problem. Just expect to wait awhile for your stuff. Mayhem stated he got his game 6 weeks later.

He stopped taking PayPal because of this problem, people ready to file claims left and right no matter what. PayPal offers YOU all protection, but believe me, as was stated by Curt Vendel before, PayPal can do NOTHING to prevent the buyer from filing chargebacks regardless of whether or not there was tracking to confirmed addresses, etc.

He's got 3000+ feedback, and his only issue was that he has been very slow, but everyone got their packages, and he's being chastised like he's a scammer for some reason on this thread.

The problem with this medium is that emotion is lost in electronic translation. There is no malice intended, its just idle banter, which can as you pointed out unfortunately lead to chastisement. Neil (isellgames4u) does has fantastic feedback, and that is why I had no qualms about bidding. He has emailed me a few times, and his patience with regard me paying has been saintly.

Why do we become antsy about a dealer who refuses to use PayPal? I am quick to admit my guilt in suspecting that if a seller only allows me to pay in a manner that affords me no protection, then he must be a naughty boy. I have no reason to believe this is the case here, but as ataripitbull mentioned it sets alarms bells ringing. If anyone is reading this and thinking that PayPal is the be-all-and-end-all then check the thread regarding the horror stories. There are some 3rd degree burns in there... :(

Thanks for your reassurance regarding Neil, he has a good friend in you. And damn, I want those games! :D

  9. I won the Atari Track & Field CIB and I saw that he does not take paypal so I sent him 2 messages asking what kind of money order his bank takes, "I had one person from Canada say that his bank only takes money order from the US post office", he never responded and after reading some of your posts I think I might just take a negative instead of loosing $275.00, what do you guys think?

    :ponder: :ponder: :?:

It will be my first negative if I do, but like you I feel that's a small price to pay compared to $200. For all of PayPal's faults (yes I have read the complete thread), at least I would get some protection.

Damn I want those games! :D

  10. I took a chance and bought a game, and it's only been 1 week since I sent payment, so I'm not too concerned at this point, although I am wary and for that reason I only bought the one game.

I set up the Western Union money transfer online (ohmygodhowmuchcommission? :x ) and then had to call it in to verify that I wanted to send the cash (I pay them around 15%, give them my telephone number, and then I have to call them - you would think they could afford the call! ;) ). After all that, the rep then really advised me not to send the cash. I mean 'really, strongly, adamantly' advised me not to send the cash. I emailed isellgames4u to ask why Western Union would do this. That was 3 days ago, and no reply yet. :ponder:

P.S. How are things in Wales? It's one of the most beautiful countries I've ever visited. I had to take down my Welsh flag the other week to make room for my TRON poster.

Wales is beautiful as ever, it's just a shame about that lump of crap sticking out from the side of it. You know, England :D (ow!, sorry honey). Actually we live in Germany (Army), but only for 10 more days and then I am posted to Cambridge, which despite being in England is very nice (ow!). Shame on you for removing your flag, especially in favour of a TRON poster. I was sad to remove mine from the office this week, :( but it will be flying strong in Cambridge.

  11. isellgames4u auctions

I am pretty amazed at the prices this guy has gotten. I am tempted to run some big sets of auctions like this. His descriptions are abysmally poor. "Atari game with Road Runner $10 shipping Money Order only". I could just list the title and make no comment about provenance, format, condition or anything. That sounds easy enough.

What is with the $500+ Puzzy games? The $256 X-man (no comment about format). Even the Bomb games are an overpriced risk. If they are NTSC, great, but I would place no bets. $190 for a China pirate multicart? More than $200 for JerryG/Best prototypes? I'll have to list my spares. In trade I bet I'd get $75. At CGE, maybe $125. On eBay, sky's the limit. And Mr. Do's Castle boxed for over $500? That's 10x the loose cost (not that I look at it as a $50 cart, I think it's undervalued at that price, but it actually sells for around tthat.)

The PUZZY games in my opinion are the two most under rated NTSC games there are, yes even rarer then the NTSC BOMB games. This is the first time I have ever seen CIB Puzzy games for sale and I thought they would pull 1k a piece in my opinion but like I said, they are under rated as far as rarity.....very very hard to find games. Now there PAL equals that are made by Bit Corp are super commons.

both Puzzy games (boxed) went for about £50 each last November on ebay.co.uk, just as I was starting my collection, but I was too scared to bid. :( doh!

  12. I bid on these auctions from isellgames4u, and am about to send him $200.

If he has not delivered what he claimed to have, then why does he have a feedback score of 3344 at 100%??? Where are the negatives?

He also has a 4-and-half star rating on the details (only 77 transactions, but hey this is new).

I do not feel too worried about my first non-paypal payment, but if I had read this thread first I probably would not have bid. :ponder:

  13. Phil,

By the way, are you doing all this yourself? If you are, then you must be working like a dog, boyo.

I ask because your list is currently running at about 3000 cart label variations, whereas a combinition list I use, between atariage, atarimania and atari guide totals about 7000 variations (excluding duplicates) . And these are not complete either. Do you reckon you can achieve what these sites have not?

You have done a cracking job on the Atari list by the way, as it has helped me identify the odd cart that I didn't know existed, ;) .

  14. Phil, don't get me wrong. I totally agree that such date differences do not constitute a true variation as you pointed out...

I want to address to you that when it was printed (month as you imply) will not be counted as seperate entries. Just like all those different dated stamped end labels on the carts aren't counted as seperate variations. If I did this, people would find me ridiculous, which they may already, and the list would probably be 3 times as long. It's not necessary. Just like it was agreed that some fading or the ink getting lighter, or the die getting worn isn't a true variation.

But the reason I mentioned the date difference is because when trying to compare a multitude of boxes, the dates will quickly help identify possible alterations between printing runs like the ones you stated in the next post...

I found a slight variation that I noted in Football, but did not put as a seperate entry. I have 2 boxes that look exactly the same. Except when I open the bottom flap, the tiny sub-flap that has the Rev 4 is different. One is white and one is green. One has the product numbers and Rev 4 going from right to left, the other has it from bottom to top going up. Besides a slight tone color difference, these boxes look exactly the same to me. Does anyone have both versions of this box and do they know of a difference that I am not seeing? Please let me know.

Once again, these differences may not constitute a true variation, it could just be due to some hippy on the production line having changed his hash supplier. I was just trying to highlight to everyone that the printing date is the easiest and quickest way to sometimes spot the variation in box and manual design. I am amazed how many combat boxes (and carts) have passed through my hands from the same printing run! :!:

    kiai

  15. Phil,

I have emailed you a combat box scan that you asked for...

''The other is a red background warranty box with the © outside the box and Printed in USA on the back fo the box''

Hope this is what you are after. I am confused though why you have not used the part numbers of the box for identification in your list. The scan I have sent for this particular box description of yours is catalogued as...

    A-C011822-01 G-C014060-01 REV 4

This particular print was made in Sept 1980 (see end flaps), but I also have it printed in Nov 1980 (same catalogue number and revision).

Atari put part numbers on (almost) everything, and although I see you have used them to refer to the catalogues, you have not for the boxes.

Please excuse this FNG, but by know you will realise that there may be more variations than you have listed. Don't scream, I think you have done a sterling job with your list, but it might just have got longer.
