The game looks awesome. Personally, I think jumping would be more fun and challenging than firing shots. The player could score points by successfully jumping over enemies, their shots, and gaps. But should not be able to jump over road blocks. I see this as being especially challenging because if the enemy fires at the player, they have the choice of trying to jump over both the shot and the enemy to gain points or take the safe route and switch rails. Trying to jump over the shot means you run the chance of colliding with the enemy tank when you land if you don't jump again fast enough. Maybe even use both by having two game variations. One with shots and one with jumping? If the player does jump, I don't think they should be able to switch rails mid-air. It would probably make it too easy. Or maybe that could be the variation, one lets you change lanes mid-jump, and the other doesn't. Ramps don't sound particularly appealing to me since it would seem to make the gaps kinda pointless. Just a source of easy points. Unless there was a way to fail the jump off the ramp. I would lean more towards joystick control rather than paddle. Mostly because of the dead zone in paddles which can often be a headache when you accidentally turn the paddles too far to the left and have to compensate to get back to the right before it responds again. Although I do love paddle games at it may make for quicker jumping from rail to rail. Kinda 50/50. The horizontal orientation also seems like it may make it a little awkward. Are the speed up and slow down power ups temporary or permanent/cumulative until you pick up another? (again, sorry if this was answered already and I missed it). The sprites and box/label art looks amazing. They go really well together. From the screen shots, it looks like there is a fuel aspect to the game as well. (I didn't read every post so sorry if I missed the answer) Very good idea. It's awesome to see someone with a a game idea and programmers taking the time and effort to help someone with an idea realize it. That's why I love this community. Probably the best out there. Can't wait to try the final product.

I think avoiding the word "Adventure" in the title is best. Like has been said earlier, not because of worthiness or copyright, but because the game can stand on it's own and deserves it's own title. Understandable about the return/revenge confusion. A game playing as the magician and laying traps for the hero would be awesome for "revenge."

Would the player be able to jump in order to cross broken rails, avoid enemies/their shots, or avoid the item they don't want? If not, would the fire button have a function?

I think that digital distribution for roms is a very plausible idea. My take on it would be to have the programmer customize each rom with the buyers name or a custom phrase it the title screen. Also, distribute the manual and box/label art in a protected, un-editable pdf file with the buyers name in each. Lastly, maybe most importantly, have the buyer sign a simple legal contracted stating that it is only for personal use and not to be distributed. The author of the game should also take orders by using a limited first come, first serve type of sign up/ pre-order like many do when making carts. Maybe 20 copies at a time. This helps keep the programmer from getting bogged down with 100's of orders to customize in this manner. After the orders have been filled, the author of the game can decide to do another run if they so wish when they know they will have time to do the customizing. This is almost exactly the process I went through when I playtested a homebrew game last year. I had to sign a contract and the game author sent me the roms and I ended up with the final product on rom form and have never broken my word of not distributing it. Of course there is the chance of someone hacking the rom to remove the name and distributing it, but it seems to me that there is a similar risk of someone buying a physical copy, dumping it, and distributing it. Plus, the majority of people who would even be interested in the roms would be people from this community who, as far as I can tell, seem to be very honest, respectful, and people of their word. For someone like me who grew up with the 2600 and nes, but no longer have functioning systems or can afford to collect, this would be ideal. Ever since I first discovered emulation, it has been a godsend. I would gladly pay a reduced price for a digital copy of a homebrew. Probably as much as $20 if I had it at the time. I think This could be a very plausible form of digital distribution for homebrew roms.

What about "The Evil Magician's Revenge?" Since it seems to be a bit of a sequel the Evil Magician's Return. Kinda like Yar's return/Revenge.

Sweet! I was hoping this one would pick back up. Very fun.

Personally, I think the best idea is to use the tittle screen for all versions of the game. Seems like Seems like the added price for the higher editions should be for the extra packaging and feelies. Just my thoughts.

I know the enemies from dragon's lair was giddy goons. Or the most distinct enemies were. The little pink/purple furry goblin things. I know most those games but don't know the names of the enemies.

A whip seems fitting even though he didn't have one in the original. He did have one in Mayan Adventure though. A gun seems kinda bland to me. For pitfall Harry anyways.

Tried Dragon Quest. Unfortunately I couldn't get into it. Only consoles I play are Nes, Genesis/sega cd, snes once in a while, Gameboy/color/advance. Genesis and Nes are my favorite. Ones I've already done so no one mentions them: Phantasy Star 4 Zelda 1,2, awakening. (I know it's not an rpg.) Sword of Vermilion Rygar Getsu-fumaden Sweet Home Light crusader Immortal Popful Mail Lunar 1 & 2 Eye of the Beholder 1,2, & 3 Stonekeep Actraiser

Those are very good games that I have played already and still do from time to time. I meant something more along the lines of something that can be beaten in a short period of time with a distinct begin, middle, and end game. Something a little more story driven I guess. Telengard always had a roguelike feel to me. Which I do enjoy, but just not what I was looking for. I appreciate the suggestion. Think I will pick up telengard again for a little bit though at some point this week now.

I was in the mood to play a rpg but didn't want a big long epic grind-fest. Was looking for some suggestions for something fun that can be played in around 5-7 hours or so. Particular looking for something for nes, genesis, or maybe dos/early windows. Traditional rpg or even action rpg/adventure. Thanks for any suggestions.

Bionic Commando for Nes and Getsu-Fumaden for Famicom/nes. Awesome game.

I second the Haunted Adventure Trilogy. I have only played the first two though since part 3 bin is not available at the moment. I'm dying to try it though. I also second Wolfenstein the next mission. Venture II and Venture III are also pretty good hacks that I really enjoy. Not as extensive of a venture hack as Wolfenstein, but still very good.

Yeah, those are the right ones. I don't think Tank AI was ever officially finished, but it's still quite playable.

Don't know where the link is right now, but the Midnight Magic hack that lets you use paddle controllers is definitely a must have hack in my opinion. It's in this forum somewhere. The Combat AI hack is a must have if you have no friends/kids around to play combat with.

Would be cool if it supported genesis controllers for two button games like thrust.

Be the ball - Slash's Snakepit Pinball Wizard - The Who (70's) Balls to the wall - Except Big Balls - AC/DC Yellow Pearl/theme from top of the pops - Phil Lynott (for some reason always makes me think of pac-man and pong) (70's ish) Anything that has to do with balls or bouncing I think would also be appropriate. You can never go wrong with Thin Lizzy, T-Rex, or Cheap Trick for any event with 70's music. Pac-man fever also might be fun. Also anything you hear at a hockey game like crazy train or crush 'em might be fun. I ran - Flock of seagulls for 70's it's even on the activision anthology for pc.

Found this topic on the sega 16 forums. Bet it would be fun to play some games like beam rider and battlezone with. http://www.sega-16.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15573

Figured it out by accident. Had to fall through a hole in the ground. I've gotten to the arena. I was wondering if there is a use for the cursed shield that you can borrow? It doesn't seem to make any difference in your defense rating at all and doesn't seem to do anything negative either. Does it have a specific use? I'm wondering if you get to keep whatever item you borrow at the end of the arena section of the game and if so, which item would be best to take? Anyone know what the crack bomb spell is for?

Anyone here play King Colossus on Genesis? I'm stuck very early in the game. I found the necklace at ganant's place. I also found Ganant's key, but I can't figure out what to do next. Every other location in the game is blocked off. I looked all over ganant's place and trying the key on blank walls looking for a secret door, but no luck. I've wandered around so much, my character is at level 10. I see a room that I can't get into with people in it, but I can't figure out how to get in for the life of me. Can't even remember what the necklace is for or where I found it at this point. Can't find a walkthrough anywhere either. Anyone have any helpful hints or just tell me what to do? I'm ready to give up on it. Started months ago and still can't figure out what to do.

That does look cool and functional. The only thing missing is actually looking like a smaller 2600 console.

This is just an idea I had for a mod. Use a Flashback 2 with stelladapters inside. The idea is to make the the switch/buttons on the face of the console mappable with an emulator like stella and the adapters inside so you can just use the console and the joysticks to operate the emulator. The difficulty, reset, and game select switches could be programmed accordingly and the power button used to exit out of the emulator to switch games. The joysticks would be used for navigating the menu and selecting the games. I figure the buttons on the console simply need to be modified in a similar way the stelladapter does it where it makes the computer recognize it as a joystick and recognizes the buttons as programmable. It would be connected via usb. Maybe a way to splice the modified console with the stelladapters so it only needs one usb port. I know this is a fairly useless and unnecessary mod, but I think it's a kinda cool idea to add a little more flavor and authentic experience to using an emulator. I don't even know if it's possible to do really. I personally don't have the know-how or tools to do something like this, but I just thought it was a cool idea and I thought I'd share it. Maybe someone out there can actually make something like this.
