Just wanted to say thanks to Nukey for this simple, yet awesome hack. I've been playing quite a bit more of midnight magic in the past few days because of it and the paddle controls make it that much more enjoyable.
The only thing to make it better ( besides new tables of course) would be some sound effects for the ball when it hits the flippers and ricochets off the walls. Maybe a sound effect for just the flippers themselves when the triggers are pressed.
The idea of putting some "English" on the ball also would be really cool.

any info or screenshots on the dragon's lair proto? I never heard of it till now.

I would think that this would be more like a homebrew rather than a hack. Sounds like a cool idea too. If you play as the missile commander, I think it would be cool if you also had to defend the ship as it flies around and shoots asteroids. As a homebrew, both gameplay ideas might be possible as two different game modes. It also might make it possible for an interesting two-player mode too where one player is the missile commander and the other plays as the ship.

Legend, one more question, if you could be so kind -- how hard is it to see the display and everything going on with this game? My dad, being in his 60's, doesn't have the sharp eyesight that us youngsters have.
I don't mean he can't see, but the Tetris game that I got him last year was a 'large' edition with a screen twice that size. Sorry for such a ridiculously late reply. I must have missed back when it was first posted. Anyways, It's easy enough to see and I have some pretty bad eye sight myself. It's not back-lit though so playing in the dark isn't really an option. If you have already gotten it you have probably figured this out though already. If you have gotten it, how does your dad like it?

Multi screen pinball would be great. Even the kind with enemies roaming around like pinball quest or devil crash. Maybe even some sort of pinball/breakout hybrid. Don't know if this is a bit too ambitious for something like 2600. Maybe the multi-screen is, but perhaps the enemies or breakout/pinball hybrid could be possible.

How many other pinball games are there? Video Pinball is the only one I can think of at the moment (and is already so much unlike table pinball that the lack of a 2-button hack is the least of it's issues IMO).Not too sure how many others there are. (just tried checking, I guess there are only the 3 pinball games for 2600 )You're kinda right about video pinball not being very traditionally "pinbally" although your paddle hack would make it a little better.
I only know of two midnight magic hacks that change the table enough to warrant some treatment. The space invader MM hack and the Borg Wars MM Hack. Both are in the database. (sorry, on closer inspection, I guess they don't really change the table layout)
Maybe some homebrew pinball games will eventually show up using paddle control to widen the 2600 pinball library.

A player could just use DB 9 splitter that lets the player to hook up two controllers on one port and just use the joystick to launch the ball and the paddles to work the flippers. As far as playability is concerned, I personally feel that using just the paddles to operate the flippers and launch the ball makes for an easier and more fun experience. Otherwise, you'd have to use the joystick to launch the ball, then quickly drop the joystick and grab the paddles to control the flippers. This just seems cumbersome and awkward in my opinion.

I was wondering if there are any homebrew pinball games? Particularly for 2600 using the bumper bash control scheme or maybe some for the nes.
-
Works beautifully! Any chance of of giving the paddle treatment to other 2600 pinball games or maybe some of the more noticeable pinball hacks that change the table layouts? The Midnight Magic 3d hack would be cool to have this control scheme also.

But how would you control the plunger then? Both ports would be occupied in 2-player games, so that's out. IMO it would be a good candidate for a Sega controller hack...you get 2 buttons and the stick remains the same for purists (and maybe to check into adding "english"). Plenty of free space to work that in. Acceptable?Bumper bash let you control the plunger and flippers with just one set of paddles
-
I'd love to see a hack that allows you to use the paddles to play this game. All the pinball games for 2600 actually. The controls for bumper bash is a big part of what makes it my favorite 2600 pinball game even though some others have more interesting tables.

I'm also wondering if there has been any progress. It's quite a fun game and I'm really hoping to see it get finished and see the new features mentioned earlier put into action.

After reviewing the list of Taboo Trademarks, we better stay clear from a "specific" character. It might also be a good idea to call this "K.O. Arcade Legends" instead.
The characters don't have to have the exact name. "Bintly Bear" maybe? Although not atari, one of my favorite characters I'd like to see would be the dog from duck hunt. Who hasn't wanted to punch that giggling pooch right in the snoot at one point or another?

I made this bAtari Basic port of Konami's Knightmare from MSX because I love this game.
Unfortunately I couldn't finish this game because my son was born and I don't have time anymore.
I hope that I can restart the project soon.
Thanks for all the interest.
Sergio Curti.
Right on. It looks very cool. Any chance of trying it out in the uncompleted state it's currently in?

just curious if it was possible to make the phosphor crt tv effects compatible with opengl 1.4 in the next or future version?

Here is a pic of two sticks. The one on the left is intact. The one on the right is the broken one. If you look at the top of the left stick, you can see two very small tabs sticking out...one on each side. Those two tabs fit into the base of the stick. Then, when you turn the stick, the tabs lock into the base.
The stick on the right, you can see (sort of) that both tabs broke off. As a result, the stick won't lock into place anymore. It just spins freely. Also, the stick tends to come out of it's base during gameplay.
This is the stick I'm going to try to transfer into a CX-40 case. If nothing else, it'll be a fun little project. I'll post my results here, whether I'm successful or not.
P.S. Sorry for the blurry pic...I used my iPhone (3G) and it's not really known for taking clear pics close up...can't wait to upgrade to the iPhone 4.

My problem is not that the little tabs broke off, but the whole peg that the tabs are atached to came off. It didn't snap off, but came apart. So I have 3 pieces total. (1)The stick, (2)the peg that one end goes into the stick and the other end with the tabs goes into the base, and (3)the base itself.
The problem with just putting it back in is that there seems to be little tabs on the inside of the stick like on the outside of the peg that goes into the base, but the slits on the peg are small and get narrower as it goes down. Extremely hard to line them up an a black stick since I can't see where to line them up very well. That was the first thing I tried, but can't get it all the way back inside the stick.
-
I usually remove the joystick from the base when I store my retro joystick controller. This morning when I did that, the peg that goes into the base separated from the stick itself! I wasn't rough or forceful with it. I'm always careful with my things. Especially electronics.
So basically, my joystick is in 3 pieces. the base, the stick, and the part between the stick and base which is kinda like a peg the goes into both the stick and the base. Has this happened to anyone else? If so, how did you fix it?
I figured I could just glue it back, but I can't seem to get the peg all the way back inside the joystick.

Sword and the Sorceror,The Coleco 291905No way?!?!
Based on the movie with Lee Horsley? I love that movie. It would have been awesome to see a game based on this. I hope a playable demo at least exists and gets released/leaked.

The jumping can be quite a pain. I've often fell because I wasn't exactly precise with the jumps. Especially on the smaller platforms. Also, they seem a little too "slippery"

I had ideas to make a Dragonfire II, which would contain more screens once you got inside the castle.Oooh. That would be awesome.
This Dragons Nights game looks cool. I'll probably wait until it is a little polished before I try though. The name sounds a little odd. Maybe drop one of the "s" at the end?
-
surprised no one mentioned Treasure of Tarmin or Tower of Mystery.
-
Don't think so. I'd also be very interested in trying it out. I know Venture 3 is a hack where the original 3rd level was added to the 2600 version that only had two. So maybe it's very possible to add the 3rd DK screen in?
Where did you find the 3rd screen hack btw?
-
That is Awesome. I hella want to play it. I almost guessed it might have been a game that was on the vectrex, but couldn't think of which one.
I hope he releases the rom too so poor classic gamers with low funds and no more 2600 like me can try it with emulation.

Superman Hack?
in Atari 2600
Posted
Haunted Adventure 3 from the Haunted Adventure Trilogy is a hack of superman to my understanding. Although, I've never tried it and the bin isn't available, you can get it on cart in the atariage store though. It looks really cool.
