  1. I am parting with my ICD Catbox! Selling it on ebay, but make an offier! eBay Auction -- Item Number: 290400285940
  2. You and me both Kev. Hey cool! - good idea, could you let me know what they say and if they could do it? (I'm gonna want one too! ) Seeing as I don't have any HD TVs in my house right now and I understand that VGA computer monitors are actually quite similar to HD TVs resolution. I also would like to see the Jaguar running different things and it's output displayed on a VGA computer monitor. Yes, it should be very clear looking, although you will be able to see every polygon probably. I don't think I would mind that too much!, would be nice. I am running my game systems on a 22" Monitor, not HDTV, but honestly, there is not much difference anymore. The HDtvs typically have a lower resolution than a monitor, but not by a whole lot.. the technology is bascially the same on a LCD monitor or LCD tv, & on both... the scalers for standard video inputs suck! The ambery device "should" work very well with the Jag if we can get a cable that works. Let me know what you come up with making your own cable, I also emailed a computer repair friend, & contacted amberry directly to see if they can produce a cable :-)
  3. I am not much for precision soldering. I wonder if a local computer shop or someplace can knock this out for me? I emailed ambery the pin output of the catbox 9-pin RGB. I wonder if on their end they can produce a cable that matches up to what the catbox puts out???? I would rather have a professional cable than something I modded myself? I cannot tell you how anxious I am to see Battlesphere & my other Jag games in nice clean high resolution on my 22" LCD!
  4. Will try to find the new manual Dl for you. Please keep me advised as I would like to be able to use this thing too. Thanks The catbox printout instructions have the pinouts labled & numbered. I am sure its the cable. Maybe its not lining up with whats going into the AV1? I wonder if a proper cable can be made using the ICD pinout list? Ugh.. Why are there so many monitor hook ups. So the jumperes to change are on the inside of the Catbox itself?
  5. I got my Catbox Question? The RGB output on it, should be the same as the ATARI computers of the era correct? Anyway to get and understand the specs of the catbox RGB? I bought a RGB to VGA scaler that said it compatible with the older atari computers rgb out & they included a 9-pin to 15 pin adater for the unit. But I just get green and purple lines once its pushed through the scaler to my VGA. I am wondering if its a bad unit or improper cable... because to my understanding the catbox rgb out is the same as older atari computers? Thanks so much in advance!!!!
  6. I got my catbox today! Thanks so much AtariRX Its hooked up & running through S-video now (obviously no difference in picture from my standard S-video cables) but Thursday my RGB to VGA scaler/converter comes in & Ill get that set up lined into my LCD through the VGA port. Should look very very nice :-)
  7. A VGA extension cable should work as a controller extension cable. Something like this: http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10201&cs_id=1020104&p_id=86&seq=1&format=1#largeimage Yeah I have a 32" LCD in the living room mounted to the wall. But in the basement I have a nice setup. I have a macbook pro 17" with a 22" LCD hung on the wall above it. I run dual desktop over/under (I need to take a photo, its nice. In a cabinet to the right of the setup is all my vintage game systems ran to a switchbox running to the 22" LCD monitor through its built in av inputs both S-video & composite. I can just open the cabinet, grab a controller & swap the LCD from the computer to gaming. But again... the scalers on the built in av-inputs are horrible, as are the ones on my living room TV. So all of us who want to play vintage games on Flat panels either monitor or HD TV (both are the same these days anyway) we need to get one of these scalers. I will post pics & feedback at weeks end once I have it all hooked up proper!
  8. Yup.... I was just about to reply when I read you 2nd post. They have the legacy 9-pin rgb cable to 15-pin to use with the scaler converter. I just purchaed a catbox from another member here on the site & I am going to order my scaler + cable today. Hopefully by weeks end I have it all hooked up. I have a 22" LCD wide screen monitor for all my vintage systems with a full set of AV,s-video, component imputs. But I found out the hard way they do not work very well, so I am now jumping on the scaler converters to up things a bit. If this works well, Ill jump on a full converter for all my other systems also.
  9. The upscalers are different in each TV. LCD TV's do not natively handle the older composite & S-video type of hookups. The resolution is very different & has to be upscaled. The thing is, most LCD TV's have very basic built in upscalers on their video inputs... they do not add lines of resolution, they just stretch the old video image across the LCD's high res screen. Thats why we get the pixilated ugly pictures on most. So for your european atari peeps, scart appears to have a nice RGB output for the TV's that have it. For the rest of us, if your TV has a nice scaler, S-video is ok. But there are a lot of video scalers out there on the market. Upscale your s-video or scart to hdmi, dvi, or vga... ect... but you have to spend the money, if its under $100, its junk (I have learned) so spend good money on a good scaler/converter. Or....... You could go all out like I just did & spend mad money on a catbox with RGB out & then get one of these http://www.ambery.com/rgbcgatovgac.html yes.... its stupid money spent. But it will look very very nice Ill give a full report once all my purchases are in!
  10. Thanks everyone.... Looks like I found a Capbox for $250. Pricey... but online the only original SCART cable with the Jagaur logo on them was selling for $99 USA + shipping from Europe. So if I am going to pay that much for just the cable, I am going to for the full on catbox :-) I can get a 9-pin RGB to d-sub upscaler for another $90 to use it with the VGA only LCD screen for my gaming systems. Something about the Jag & its low res polygons running through the S-video on a LCD looks horrid, where as my 16-bit systems not soo bad. I use the VGA box on my dream cast & it looks amazing. So Ill post an update once everything is running. When I have friends look through my vintage collection & they see the Jag, I want them to see it playing in all its glory :-)
  11. I cannot find it in the marketplace, can you send a link?
  12. Where can I find this good scart cable?
  13. So how hard are the official cables to find? I am going to look for a Scart RGB to VGA upscaler. IN the end this would be a much more inexpensive route to get the best pic for my jag. I would have to get the catbox + rgb to vga upscaler anyway. But I am ready to open my wallet. Again.. thanks so much for all the feedback!
  14. So do you want to sell it
  15. Someone got a great deal then. Price is still firm. I certainly don't mind holding on to this. It is about as mint in box as you will find. I AM INTERESTED IN THE CATBOX, LETS PLEASE MAKE A DEAL ON THIS DEVICE!!!!!!!! I AM TRYING TO TRACK ONE DOWN
  16. You crazy europeans and your cool tv-connector things Ill track someting down, I see some scart to component video converters online, that may be the way to go. Thanks for the atarirx, I am going to PM
  17. Thanks so much But what can I get to convert the "scart" cable to work with my monitor? IE VGA D-sub or ypbpr component Thats the trick, is getting it convereted to a signal I can use on my monitor :-) I really really appreciate this help!
  18. would a scart cable like this one be sufficient? scart on ebay eBay Auction -- Item Number: 250555245240 Would I get the same quality RGB I would out of something like the catbox?
  19. Can the scar be converted to the traditional 9-pin RGB? I found an upscaler to convert 9-pin RBB to 15-pin VGA for my LCD monitor. Can you send me a link or where to find the "good" scart cable for the jagaur? This would be a cheaper option. Not that I have not ruled out the catbox just for collector sakes. But all options are open at this point for my Jaguar. I dropped $350 last year on Battlesphere gold, might as well have a good picture for it :-)
  20. So how often do these show up on ebay & what's the average cost? I run all my game systems though a monitor, want to run the rgb to the vga via an upscaler. Figure would look nice. I know these things are rare expensive, but how often do they show up? I am pulling some funds for the purchase!
  21. Hey Everyone... quick question I know the Jag can auto detect pal vs. ntsc. But what about the games. If I want to buy a game from Europe to play on my USA Jag, there should not be a problem correct? Thanks so much!
  22. Hey Does the cartridge version of the game have background music? Just curious, the CD version has the redbook audio, but does the Cartridge version have background music via the Jag Harware as the 1st one did? Thanks :-)

    BattleSphere

tempest is awesome, if you havent already then you need a rotary controller, it makes a HUGE difference, also i have been playing alot of defender 2000 lately, awesome game, battlespere is really cool too especially if you have it linked with friends jaguar rocks, enjoy bro. I am keeping my eye out for a rotary. Right before I purchased my Jag about a month or so ago, I saw a jedi Jeff controller on ebay, I was tempted, but I had not even got a jag yet. Ill keep a look out for a rotary controller.
