Wow, I didn't know it was that old already!

The Shiny Toy Guns version sure sounds like they're trying to imitate the Taco one though. At first I wasn't even sure if they went so far as sampling his voice

BTW: I like the english lyrics for the Major Tom cover.
BTW²: Since you're American, I'm sure you know The Crüxshadows? Love their use of violins:
(Basically I had to think of this, since it also has "Coming Home" in brackets
) -
That's pretty cool! Unlike their lame Taco cover this is almost outdoing the original

-
I was more expecting such a comment for the Freddy Hardest article

-
So you're no blog junkie!

And Ninja Golf.

After 50 screens the mission is over and done:

This game really was an unexpected little gem. I wish it'd get a modernized console remake some day - it could become the next Geometry Wars Galaxies!

Some future day the "Playing..." series may see another Mastertronic low budget title in the form of "Pulse Warrior", but first it'll continue with something else.
-
Having another fun evening with this little gem, I just arrived in the 40th stage

-
Tough stuff! I had to listen to it half a dozen times, but now I'm slowly starting to get into it

Placebo sure are the best current rock band on this planet! Definitely need to see them live soon again as well

-
Top report! And thanks for the pics!
I really hope I'll get to see Ladytron some day as well

-
Sound interesting. I'll check the rest of the songs later tonight, have a project to wrap up outside before it gets dark.It was a very good gig last night once again, as always. A Fine setlist, combined with excellent soundquality & lightshow. On top of that I was able to buy some MCDs that were still missing in my collection, so I'm feeling much more complete now
Tomorrow night's the Ladytron concert in Houston, I can't wait
Way cool, please report when you're back!
-
Wow, thanks for providing all the background information guys! I really hadn't heard of those. Your best kept secret

The first sentene of your reply Mezrabad, I wish I shared a fraction of that eloquence. You really should write a book some day

I hate this game. Not in a love/hate kind of way, just plain hate. I hate it so much that I refuse playing it even one more second.
While I'm at it, I hate pixel perfect jumps as well.
And I hate maps that make backtracking next to impossible through their layout, combined with gameplay requiring tons of it.
How this was even considered "playable" back in the day is beyond me.
Some future day the "Playing..." series may see another similar Gremlin game in the form of "NorthStar", but first it'll continue with something easier.

What's the 30443 for at the end? I hadn't noticed the number at the end before. He's tracking views-per-entry

-
Considering how old it is, I assume it's a PC-Boot disk game? If it is a 3.5" disk and the code is synced to the monitor refresh, you might possibly still be able to run it on a modern PC

Do you have more PC games that old? I find them fascinating. I have a few myself, like e.g. Jumpman, albeit most of them require 5.25" disk drives.

And the singer seems to have gone through a funny metamorphosis in latter years - looks like he was trying hard to copy Michael Bolton (ok, that was in the 90's )
He turned more and more into a Chansonnier over the years. His early stuff absolutely rules though:
(Avoid when you're lovesick, it can kill you...
)Here's a song that kept all his vibe: Fels in der BrandungNah... that's a far cry from the immortal original version. Witt is still a favorite though, especially live
And here's another timeless one from a badly missed poet genius, written in 92'Falco lives!

My wife asked me to add Broken Sword also to the shopping list

-
Nathan, do you also like the works of Alex Proyas? All of his movies are favorites of mine: The Crow, Dark City and I, Robot.
Yesterday I was pretty impressed again by his newest creation, "Knowing". I think you might like it as well

(It opened with a Trailer for Wolverine. Must see for me now!

I just picked up Lego Indiana Jones (for the PS2, so the PS2 look is just fine
), and so far I like it. The levels are different enough from Lego Star Wars to keep me interested I think, but it's essentially the same gameplay. That said, almost nothing beats chopping up stuff with a little Lego lightsaber, so I'd have to give Lego Star Wars the edge.
I agree that Star Wars most likely would've been the better choice, especially considering that "The Complete Saga" should have twice the content. Indiana Jones' price dropped first though

I assume the PS2 Indy experience should be pretty much the same as on Wii. E.g. we discovered only 2/3 into the game that you can also waggle the whip

BTW: Our game got completely screwed up once, during the elephant riding level. My wife and her elephant fell into some abyss there, never to be seen again - and the level couldn't be completed with Indy alone...

-
My problem with late Pet Shop Boys tunes is that they all feel a bit over-polished - and missing an edge here and there.
I totally loved them at the time of the "Introspective" album, but they never seemed to be able to deliver such a masterpiece again.
Still my favourite PSB song: Left to my own Devices

I just couldn't force myself to play another Soko-Ban screen today, so I decided to just call it quits for this one

Some future day the "Playing..." series may see another puzzle game in the Form of "Bone Cruncher", but first it will continue with something else.
-
Just a quick note that I beat two more screens last night. It seems the difficulty of the puzzles is rising from impossible to insane

-
BTW: Since you're from Austria, I'm sure you can tell me what song is here in this video from 0:55 to 1:03?
=>
If it helps any, I remember the video starting with a line like "She threw my TV out of the window" (unless I'm confusing it with something else) and I know the guy is called "Mo"

-
A PC CGA version definitely should exist, as it was reviewed in "Power Play" 1/88. I choose playing the C64 version though, since it's easier for me to run.
The puzzles are getting very hard, today I only figured out four of them, being stuck on #14 for a while.
Glad you enjoy reading those articles just like I'm enjoying the Chronogamer reports

Wow, they had Casio synthesizers in Russia as well?

What a lovely song, thanks a bunch!

Russia is a bit of a blind deaf spot for me, I think I know
and that's it already

Bah! This game is totally unplayable trash!!
Bugfixed or not, there's still so many unfair and almost impossible scenes in every level, making this a game providing absolutely no! fun! at! all!
Some future day the "Playing..." series may see its sequel "Rastan Saga II" but first it'll continue with something better.
