  1. Hi there! Yes. Hm... but that's what the original Q-Bert does. Those color changes are not generally impossible, only depending on the design the timing might become nightmarish to impossible. Greetings, Manuel
  2. Hi there! Well, the "Stella Programmer's Guide" says: "This address resets the horizontal sync counter to define the beginning of horizontal blank time, and is used in chip testing". Greetings, Manuel
  3. Hi there! To me it sounds rather emancipated Greetings, Manuel
  4. Hi there! Phew, but organizing the HSC as ze_ro does it is an amazing amount of work. I couldn't do it Greetings, Manuel
  5. Hi there! Seems like it does reasonably good so far! Greetings, Manuel
  6. Hi there! I see, sorry I didn't get you there Yeah, I hope to get a C64 DTV soon. I certainly can't resist a thing with more than 10 Epyx games + Paradroid on it Greetings, Manuel
  7. Hi there! This is not true. I have first hand knowledge that the C64 DTV unit works with a complete C64-on-a-chip, including a SID and a VIC. The device is running the _original_ C64 Software, it has only been tweaked in things like running the Games from ROM rather than diskette. Greetings, Manuel
  8. Hi there! I don't get it. Yeah, interlacing was a built-in mode in the Amigas HAM modes, but what does this have to do with the 2600? Actually The first EMI developed televisions from 1935 already used interlacing! Here, type in a query for "interlaced" here: http://www.atariage.com/news/ and you'll see that the VCS interlacing technique was just discovered two years ago. I highly doubt that you find any earlier reference for that... Greetings, Manuel
  9. Hi there! Hmpf! This is going to be a long night... Greetings, Manuel
  10. Hi there! Interlacing is not a recent discovery. Uihjah... so which VCS game/demo older than Glenns or Billys recent experiments make the VCS display an interlaced screen? I really thought they where the first doing that. Greetings, Manuel
  11. Hi there! Uihjah, so after not improving for two days, I now finally had a brilliant game of 183.000! BTW: I'm still driving forward, with the only exception being when the yellow ufo (missile?) shows up. I guess it just depends wether you learned/memorized the right timing for forward or backward movement, as I personally will get much worse results when driving backwards Greetings, Manuel
  12. Hi there! Well, but does anyone know what ever happened to Ron? I have a PM for him here in my Outbox waiting since 23 Jan 2004!! He also completely abandoned Twingalaxies from one day to another... Greetings, Manuel
  13. Hi there! Well, I wouldn't hold my breath for boinxx, as we all know the programmer of that never finishes any of his game projects... Greetings, Manuel
  14. Hi there! Another day another score: 142.000 Greetings, Manuel
  15. Hi there! Uihjah, just 2 more hours of playing and I'm up to 107.000! BTW: I think I got an extra life at 100K, can someone confirm that? Greetings, Manuel
  16. Hi there! Improving some more to 73.000 today! Here's a few tips from me. Sorry if I'm just pointing out the obvious or repeating what is already known: Limit 1: The game is only tracking 2 enemies at a time. That is 1-2 tanks of both types and 0-1 Ufos, of both types. You need to be constantly aware which of the two are around you. For example, when chasing a tank, sometimes you can hear the red ufo, knowing that it is harmless. The opposite is when facing the Ufo you can be sure that the other radar dot is a tank somewhere around you. Limit 2: The game is only tracking 2 shots at a time - One for you, one for the enemy. While this prevents you from shooting twice, it also does that for your enemy, i.e. once you escaped an enemy shot, be aware that _all_ enemies are _totally_ defnesless for a few precious moments now! Kill or be killed: The secret is all about angles. Your tank can move only forward and backward and it is very limited sideways. The enemy always shoots in a straight line towrds you so consider this: - Worst case: An enemy shooting at 6 o'Clock: You're dead. Period. No chance. Maybe you can drive forward for a second, but then you're dead anyway. - Best case: An enemy shooting at 3 or 9 o'Clock: Brillant. He is dead. It's like this: The enemy is shooting straight at you from your side. All you need to do is move forward for 1/2 second to avoid his shot and then you immediately turn towards him. Remember that he is totally defensless! Just turn and shoot! Now, the only remaining difficult part is to get 2 enemies at once near 3/9 o'Clock For example, when you're going after the red Ufo, always try to keep the _second_ radar dot near 3 or 9, moving forward (at least for a moment immediately after you hear a shot) You might get 2-3 maybe 4 safe shots against the Ufo without being in danger at all! Greetings, Manuel
  17. Hi Dave! The check is in the mail... Greetings, Manuel
  18. Hi there! Q-Bert? For the VIC-20? Greetings, Manuel
  19. Hi there! Ok, I'm slowly getting used to this level, improving my score to: 65.000 Greetings, Manuel
  20. Hi there! I definitely did variant 3. I'm sorry, but I don't have a digital camera or I'd send in proof pics. Greetings, Manuel
  21. Hi there! AFAIK a modern NTSC TV can safely display up to 200 lines, maybe even more. 192 is just the recommended value from Ataris original programming documentation which was written 20+ years ago. Also you can do twice as many lines wih the VCS, using the recently discovered interlace technique. Greetings, Manuel
  22. Hi there! Well, the vertical maximum depends on the # of lines your TV can sync. There's a theoretical horizontal maximum of 160 pixels though... Greetings, Manuel
  23. Hi there! I think that is a '0' too many. But it probably was rereleased in 400 different "editions"... Greetings, Manuel
  24. Hi there! WAAAAAHHHHH! Variant 3 is just insane!!! Phew... of my first ~ 50 tries my best score so far is 49.000 still, more luck than anything I guess, as I get regularly blasted away at 15-20K... Greetings, Manuel
