Bring it on, it's always interesting to hear first hand experiences from real people

Hi there! What, no vectors?!? Well, Atari probably figured that they wouldn't get away with yet another recycling of the old Star Wars vector coin-ops, so they returned to more common raster grahpics to finish the Trilogy. Of course I choose the C64 version. And it's horrible. I kinda understood the poor C64 versions of the vector games, but delivering such a mess for RotJ is insulting the unstoppable 8-Bit juggernaut. The C64 definitely can do a much better job at some diagonal scrolling sprite game! Everything looks rushed, from graphics to sonics - and partially it's just buggy! On the surface the gameplay is there: You get the Endor part, the Deathstar destruction and from the 2nd round onwards also the alternating walker / space shooting parts. The fun from the Arcade (or the 16-Bit conversions) is almost gone though. The collision detection is flawed, there's no noticable enemy AI, the graphics seem to stutter and the animation is choppy. It kinda feels like a prototype: All required elements were quickly thrown into the game and then they just shipped it, without bothering much about a polishing phase or even some more beta testing... It's pretty short - so the torture ended fast. Just like the other games of the series, the 4 phases repeat just over and over again, with only little changes from the second round onwards. Some future day the "Playing..." series may see another Atari Arcade conversion in the form of "Blasteroids", but first it'll continue with something else. Greetings, Manuel

Arcor offers a statistics package, but I didn't buy it so far. It's not that expensive (4€ per year), but I never saw the need for it. If the bandwidth gets drained that fast next month again, I might just give it a try But it's really weird, at least 400MB got drained within a single day. I got a warning at 0,8GB in the morning and the next day it was already suspended - at 1,2GB! The webspace is almost exclusively used for the pictures in my blog and on this day it had just the usual 50-60 views... Knowing that Arcor is the devil, I wouldn't be surprised if that's just some tactic of theirs to sell statistics or extra bandwidth....

Same arguments all around: http://wii.gamezone.com/gzreviews/r37700.htm

You should get the Nostalgia crack instead of the original C64 version. It conveniently tells you the required fuel amount right in the game. Even better, they compressed the whole game onto 2 just disk sides, so it requires less disk swapping

I now read all 8 english reviews for DSC found here: http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/wii/residentevilthedarksidechronicles I'm still undecided wether I should get it or not. Besides the camera / motion sickness issues mentioned in a few of these reviews, I'm also disappointed to hear that it doesn't clearly outdo Umbrella Chronicles, but just delivers more of the same. This is mentioned in all reviews, regardless of the score. I thought UC was pretty good, but not good enough to buy two of them...

Oh noes! Since EA is sooo unhappy with its Wii line-up not succeeding on the market, I've updated my old Wiishlist once again!

Simple DirectMedia Layer. (Something like cross-platform DirectX )

Shocked at how badly DEAD SPACE EXTACTION did!
Cybergoth replied to DracIsBack's topic in Nintendo Wii / Wii U
Don't do that. Just... don't. A light gun shooter is as much a real game as any other, even if it's short and simple. They can nevertheless be a lot of fun if you're just looking for a thrill ride and don't want to wade through endless option and stat screens. Sometimes I think today's video games have gotten TOO long and drawn out for their own good. I don't deny that there is a niche market for them -

Firefighter moved 100K already and it's neither a known brand nor has it been advertized anywhere. It didn't even get top tier reviews. It is a complete game at a very good price though. -
The images should return in a fortnight - the bandwidth is limited per month.

Shocked at how badly DEAD SPACE EXTACTION did!
Cybergoth replied to DracIsBack's topic in Nintendo Wii / Wii U
Especially since the majority of Wii owners (Millions and millions of consumers) could care less about video games and are perfectly happy with their Wii Sports, Wii Play and Wii Fit. This may explain lower overall sales of hardcore games, but it doesn't explain the gap in sales between CoD5 and DSE. -

EA has a track record of dumping almost 70 shit games onto the Wii, how was any potential customer supposed to believe that this one saw at least a little effort put into it? Besides, it is just another lightgun shooter, again not a real game... -
I've been watching the first 30 minutes worth of youtube walkthroughs for these N64 games tonight: Banjo Kazooie, Banjo Tooie, Body Harvest, Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness and Conkers BFD. I wasn't impressed by the Banjo games, since they look like the godfathers of all collect-a-thons, a game principle I don't like at all. Body Harvest is yet another horrible looking fog bubble, with questionable gameplay as well. I did like the other two though. Conker does seem to focus more on story and adventuring than on collecting, and Castlevania seems to have an amazing score. What do you N64 fans think, do you recommend Conker and Castlevania LoD?

You're getting more out of the articles when reading them as well

Hi there! Another one of those rare games from Spain, this is probably more popular under the name "Game Over II": As you can see above, at the time I'm writing this, you can see nothing. I'm clueless regarding what actually caused this, but something drained 1GB worth of bandwidth from my webspace within just a few days. In a 'normal' month I'm getting nowhere near that limit... Back to Phantis. It basically follows the template of the other games from Dinamic, so if you read the "Playing..." entries for Army Moves and Freddy Hardest you already know what to expect. Again we get a 2 part multiload game, where the second half can only be accessed with a password you get after finishing the first. (Unless you have a hacked version of course ) The game starts with 3 levels of rather substandard horizontal shmupping. Think Gradius without extra weapons and boring enemies flying geometrical patterns. The third level looks a bit better, but plays just as lame. You're riding on some alien mount using a club to bash some barbarianesque looking bipedal aliens. It gets better in the second load, which consistst of a small jump'n'shoot adventure. No Turrican or Metroid certainly, but at least a nice try The end is surprisingly surprising, since it shows a spaceship flying away from a planet that's not exploding! I'll spare you this, and instead use my chance of getting away with posting the loading picture of the game without risking a nipplegate: Some future day the "Playing..." series may see another Dinamic game in the form of "Navy Moves", but first it'll continue with something else. Greetings, Manuel

I never thought of doing an original game because I'm a programmer, not a game designer

Have You seen the latest FROGGER RETURNS screenshots?
Cybergoth replied to Rev's topic in Nintendo Wii / Wii U
Well, shouldn't the "playstation-era" also include the PS2 and the PS3?
