  1. The included game Yoomp! would support stereo too but THE400 Mini doesn't have it...

I hope Retro Games will fix that because many games and lot of demos and tunes are stereo.

You can still continue your trip into the Atari 8-bit era, it is a great destination 😉 Use the money you will receive from your seller to buy a second hand 800XL or 130XE and a SDrive-max. The Sdrive max is a SD-card device to load (and save to) any ATR, ATX, XEX, COM, CAR and CAS-file. 100% compatible 😉

SIO devices don't have CAR compatibility.

I found I kept hitting the 'left' Ring buttons... until I figured out how to remap the controller buttons and turn this off.

Once I did that, no more problems.

But you cannot do it with built-in games if I am not wrong.

  4. Am I missing something or everytime you want to load a game from USB you have to change machine model from 800 to 800XL/130XE?

I think 800XL should be the default machine, not 800.

  5. Perhaps not everyone knows that a good source of files is Homesoft.

Games are in XEX and ATR format (when XEX isn't available), continually updated and cleaned - no intros, no unpacking delays, no glitches.

If you click on "download all" on the right, you'll get all games inside A-Z folders.

For light ivory I’ve been using this:

For black brown ral 8023 I’ve not found anything affordable yet. There is this but I can’t bring myself to pay for it!

    https://colorfabb.com/black-brown-ral-8022

It goes 25% off from time to time.

Considered where I live, first product's perfect for me 😁

But isn't it a bit too brown for XL?

Could you post a zip file of the Generator folder, perhaps?

Shouldn't be ANY artifactual stripes, so would be good if we could look at the code for the screen kernel as well as the output.png rendition...

(Stripes present in output.png as well as the xex rendition are due to limitations of the Atari hardware/rasta process, not bugs, and so are not artifacts in quite the same sense)

I attach the complete folder (W10 64 bit).

    RastaConverter Beta8 Testing

I've been messaging people who might know a bit about the RastaConverter source code to see if some simple hack or work-around could be done to help stop those ugly horizontal line artefacts it does sometimes which only show up when viewed on real Ataris or modern emulators

After being pointed to an idea in the right kind of direction and place (thanks @phaeron) I've done a small hack to the Evaluator function which I'm getting some feedback from @ilmenitabout. The idea (which has been suggested by others in the past too) avoids a complete rewrite of some things, and makes RastaConverter give a bad score to scan lines that meet certain fairly simple conditions instead.

In the meanwhile I've been trying it out myself with some good results, and as you can see here recently, have let @Atari8man2004 have at it, as he has a powerful rig and lots of pictures on the go, so would likely notice any problems sooner than most. So far so good by the looks of it! Thanks very much for testing.

So sharing it with you all here now. @ilmenit has been kind enough to try getting his RastaConverter development environment set up again to check things out properly, which we've both found is unfortunately a pain to get working now on newer environments due to the age of the libraries and things used originally. Although it is only quite small changes, please let me know if you come across any new weirdness with this version, as it is very possible for me to have made mistakes with this, not being too familiar with the codebase or C++ (learning a lot from trying this)

Thanks to @drpeter for managing to find an example of a wrongly self overlapped player and of course for highlighting the artefact issues in the first place, what causes them at a deep level and how to try and fix them (building on @phaeron findings in his Altirra Hardware Reference manual, making Altirra more accurate, and prompted at least partly by... what RastaConverter actually shows on a real Atari)

    Kind Regards

    Sheddy

    Thank you very much!

I am doing a test with a tough conversion that ended with many stripes.

I hope new RC doesn't work well otherwise I'll have to redo all my conversions ah ah. 😁

  9. Raph Koster is a well-known game designer who co-created the online role-playing game LegendMUD (1994), directed the development of Ultima Online (Electronic Arts, 1997) and was the creative director of Star Wars Galaxies (LucasArts, 2003), massively multiplayer networked role-playing games. He is also the author of the classic book "A Theory of Fun for Game Design". In 2012 he was named an Online Game Legend at the Game Developers Conference Online. He is currently the founder and CEO of Playable Worlds, Inc., a developer of immersive online worlds.

In an interview in Retro Gamer magazine (issue 254) he said that his first computer was a 16KB Atari given to him by his great-uncle and his third an Atari 130XE, which he still owns. Intrigued, I contacted him for more details and he told me that the first Atari was a 600XL and the second one was a 1200XL.

In 1985 he programmed Orion, an Atari Basic game which actually consisted of five two-players games loaded in succession.
He kindly gave me the permission to share the game.

Years ago he made a video about it:
