I gotta say, whenever this topic pops up on my screen, I feel far more excitement than a grown man should.  No idea why it matters so much to me, maybe as a "screw you" to the C64 boys 'cause they've had GEOS and Wings for so long and its time they were bested.

I'm not usually like that (hence my room full of Atari, Apple, Commodore, TRS-80s and more retro stuff) but this program is so sweet.  You've got a first-class program here, Flashjazzcat.

    I agree.

Only Jon should have the right to post here ah ah! 😂

This was created by Sawfish-Software (Michael Guntersdorfer, Germany) in TB XL and released as a collection on three double-sided 130k disks (with various games and tools) in the early 90s. Some of his programs appeared as type-in listings, but the whole collection of Sawfish programs were advertized in the "newspaper" Computer Flohmarkt in the 90s for approx. 20DM. Nowadays you can download the Sawfish collection from e.g. atarimania...

    Sawfish programs at atarimania

Afaik, there were similar programs (to this one), released as type-in listings in german Computer Kontakt, Atari Magazin, Happy Computer and surely also Antic, Analog and Compute...

Could you attach C.A.D.? I cannot find it ATM.

  3. Solid States inspired the awesome Super 3D Plotter II program (1985, Elfin Magic Software). Manual - Download.

The author Rand Constan wrote on the manual: "I wish to thank Tom Hudson and A.N.A.L.O.G. magazine for finding and publishing the "SOLID STATES" program, as this was in fact the original inspiration to create SUPER 3D PLOTTER".

In fact on the disk there is the above Solid States 3-d space shuttle and there's a Basic program to convert objects from Solid States.

  4. After Solid States, here's a topic dedicated to two other interesting 3D applications, 3-D Supergraphics (1980) and Atari World (1981) by United States of America.

Images by ebayer videogames-orbit ("stolen" for historical purposes).

I recorded two videos of applications demos. Applications were conceived to run on NTSC machines, therefore to see colors you have to use NTSC machines or enable artifacting on emulators.

    3-D Supergraphics

    Atari World

You can download the applications on @www.atarimania.com (3-D SupergraphicsAtari World).

Unfortunately Atari World manual isn't available there.

I found it on ebay but it costs 149.99 Euro. I hope someone interested would buy and scan it for the community.

If you have more infos and memories please share them.

I've just sent two different games with the same engine I called Personal Trainer Simona.

    The games are:

    SIMONAF.PNG.5b0eb481383ce46b0d1b3aacc6753237.PNG

    Name: Following Simona
    Category: EXTREM-256
    Platform: Atari XL/XE
    Language: FastBAsic 4.3
Description: Try to follow Simona in her exercise series as fast as you can. Game is over after 100 misses.

    SIMONAR.PNG.381ae418131488f79b34c3dfb06d7b9d.PNG

    Name: Repeat after Simona
    Category: EXTREM-256
    Platform: Atari XL/XE
    Language: FastBAsic 4.3
Description: Repeat each Simona's excercise series. You win if all 10 series are completed, but the game is over at the first fail.

Now, I'm trying to finish the last one: Tunnel Hunt, a simplified version of the arcade game (c) 1979 by Atari and licensed by Centuri in 1981. I hope I could do it in 11 hours...

Awesome graphics, can't wait to try them Victor!

Ahh crabapples, I goofed up.  Very sorry about that.  I copied the new source code (WIZOWASD.BAS) into the ATR, but forgot to update the compiled version (WIZOWASD.COM), and that's what the batch file runs.

I've attached the ATR with the fix.  If you'd rather, you can fix the ATR you already have by compiling the .BAS within the ATR itself.

Press Esc to quit the game, then Esc again to exit to DOS.  Then run FBC (FastBasic compiler) and give it an input name of WIZOWASD.BAS and an OUTPUT of WIZOWASD.COM.  When you reboot, it will run the updated compiled code...

Sorry to all for the inconvenience.

No problems Randy, glad to help.

Keep up with the good work!

Is it me or Boot Atari Executable icon is still missing?

  8. Tom Hudson (@Klankster) was a technical editor for ANALOG computing and wrote some A8 games, including Livewire!, Buried Buck$ (eventually published by Imagic as Chopper Hunt), Planetary Defense (updated in 2012).

He programmed Solid States, a 3D object viewer and 1020 plotter printer, published on Analog Computing magazine February 1984 issue #16.

    AnalogP120.thumb.png.2ff189a6b36f7a3b08a54536053dbad0.png

Eventually he developed DEGAS (1985), co-developed CAD-3D (1986) and Cyber Studio (1987) for Atari ST and then the famous 3D Studio (1990) for PCs.

Analog Computing magazine and Solid States program are available on the net but AFAIK the two 3D examples (pyramid and 3-d space shuttle) aren't included so I typed in the data.

I attach two disks with Solid States (Atari Basic and Turbo-Basic XL, faster).

    Solid States (1984)(Analog).atr

    Solid States (1984)(Analog)(TBXL).atr

Eventually two articles appeared on Analog Computing June 1984 issue #19 and September 1984 issue #22, with enhancements (animation, print) and readers objects (Atari 800, X-Wing, Tie Fighter etc.). Thanks Atari_Ace for the heads up.

    X-Wing.png.86e6616680f2ba09ed5fb9a8ccdf5e45.png

I made a PDF with the three Analog Computing articles:

    Solid States (1984)(Analog)(manual).pdf

You can read the articles in html format: issue #16, #19, #22.

It would be nice to enter the data from issue #19 and #22 and design an Atari logo.
