So can someone confirm that this disk will play on a PC using an emulator like Z26? If so then I am sold.
-
I love SA. My favorite of these video game parodies was Grand Theft Mario Kart. That one destroyed me.
-
I already have all the Supercharger ROMs and unreleased games in convenient formats. I still want to support and own a really nice package like the Cyberpunks put out.
-
Are you saying I can play the CD in my PC? If so I must make apologies and order that disk pronto!!!!! So hoe does Omega Race work with Coleco controls? Do the 2 buttons actually correspond to the Omega Race controls? That seem like an incredible coincidence.
-
Ok, so its not available now? Then why are we still being told to buy the Cyberpunks CD if I have no way of playing it? I seriously think that the ROMs for Starpath should be available in that case.
-
That's just one more reason for me to finally order a Cuttle Cart

Ad for Enter the Matrix - Have you seen this crap?!
NovaXpress replied to Ehrbad's topic in Atari 2600
Yes, I have no ill will toward the new Atari. I have no special feelings for it either. That name on a label won't see a game to me. As this goes on I am becoming more annoyed, however, about the inaccurate pong sound. I don't think that was even an actual game shown, just an animation. How would everyone react to this commercial: the new Atari game falls from the stars and crushes a pile of 2600s. Or an actual clever one: The new game from Atari. This won't won't be going into any landfills at least. Or George Plimpton finally admitting that Atari is superior? -
If they made a Activision Anthology 2, what would it include

We know you're watching, we'd just like to hear you respond to criticism for once. Post something up here besides hype for a change. -

Exactly. Such a simple and obvious feature that us old fans would love. Activision could have volunteers collect all the info if they wanted, but again I feel that they don't care about this product: just a cheap quickie release to build the Activision brand identity. Classic Atari fans should spend their $35 on one of those sweet UA reproductions. The packaging and care taken with those games far outshine anything Activision has pulled off recently. And it didn't take a multi-billion dollar company to accomplish it. Just people who really give a damn. And, as always, Ken Love bails out on the thread as soon as the criticism starts. I guess this thread wouldn't look good to his supervisiors as an example of proper viral marketing. -

A whole lot of overreacting here. So they sugested that Atari games are now more sophisticated than pong? Are you denying this? It's a clever gimmick and you're all reading too much into it. Modern day games are more high tech than pong. Atrai is back and has evolved. No big deal. -
I was there this weekend. Maybe he was talking about a few common Ataris and some Colecovision that suddenly appeared. A lot fo carts that werent there 2 weeks before, but nothing intriguing except for those VIC-20 and TI 994A carts which puzzeld me. They had a lot of new boxed games but the boxes were in deplorable condition.
-
That was sweet, finally a good score from that place. I guess it pays to wear an Atari shirt around. You could be spotted as one who is interested in classic game purchases. Or be spotted as a raver, either way.

I still have the 78 Sears model I got shortly after the Atari. It still works fine. I'm dying of radiation poisioning right now aren't I?
-
This release is just more proof that AtariAge is a class act all the way.

X-box losing a billion a year
NovaXpress replied to Callipygous's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Just wait, online gaming is step one. MSN-provided content is next. XBox is really competing with PCs and DVD players more than other game consoles. This is why the shareholders are looking at it differently and allowing some losses to pile on. It has to reach a breaking point within a year or two though. Nothing wrong with that at all. I'm just saying that XBox live has the real profit potential and that is why the shareholders are waiting to see how many people faithfully subscribe. With a couple million steady customers, the XBox might not be unprofitable after all. -

Exactly! So far they still believ in old Bill, but if the XBox is still losing money in 2 years the shareholders will scream. But the project may still continue and here is why: In the DOJ agreement, Microsoft cannot sell PCs. They really wanted to. They also became worried that Sony and AOL could potentially partner up and produce an internet-ready video game system which would compete with Windows PCs. So to get around the agreement, Microsoft sells a PC without a keyboard, calls it a video game, and they're back in business. The XBox isnt about competing with the PS so much as it is about mainitaining Microsoft's position as an internet access and operating system provider. If the XBox Live sells enough, that pays for the console losses. The Live divsion is the whole profit key to the machine and the real reason for its existence. Bill doesn't want you to buy games so much as to buy online access. -

I went to WalMart to look for the Namco stick last night. All they had was the 2600 one. No thanks. -

It ain't that simple. Especially for Rampage. Isn't it owned by Midway, one of Activision's competitors? How much would Midway jack them for if they even agreed to license it in the first place. It would be like Sony asking to relese a Mario retrospective. People who don't deal with merchandising and contracts think that all there is to it is "legal mumbo jumbo" and "just getting it done." In reality there are actual deals to be made, compromises and issue to settle. And one party can call it off at any time. Sample conversation: Activision: This is the absolute most we can afford to pay for a re-release of 2600 Ghostbusters? Will you give us the license? Studio: No. Get out. Activision: Okay, then. maybe we can get people to pay for Warplock. All of them are companies that are currently not in the video game business. That's the key to Activision's licensing. You don't think that they're gonna pay for Frogger, Q*bert, and the other Parkers licenses, do you? For acrcade conversions they must not only pay for the 2600 program but for the original property as well. No movie licenses either. This is a low-budgeted project made to sell to us nostalgic oldsters and promote the Activision brand identity. I hope this edition has more and better features. The last one held no value for me. Our one bonus was commercials? They're not THAT interesting guys. And you can find those on the net as well as ROMs for the emulators. (Tip: emulator fans should grab up these companies' games pronto.) Now if you give us interviews with designers, reviews and articles from the time, sales chart figures, technological details about the games and things that actually enhance the experience then I'll be sold on this one. To really sell it, make the effort to find several good unreleased games. So far every Activision anthology release dating back to the PS1 has been disappointing and in my opinion a poor value for the consumer. Bad emulation, unsatisfying features and bug-laden. Why should I buy any more of the Activision collections when my Z26 is superior? They have a great opportunity to provide historical context and a deeper appreciation of these games, but so far all that they are doing is making a buck off our memories. -
You gotta admit that Data Age at least did a good job with adapting "Don't Stop Believing"

No one voted for the Emerson Arcadia? Incredible.

And are games such as Baseball and Football now redone for 1 player? Or will we pitching at air for the sake of nostalgia? -
If he's still selling them then the ROMs shouldn't be distributed. That CD would work on a Cuttle Cart too wouldn't it? Interesting. That's an incredible CD they put together.
-
The bottom line is that the 2600 showed what was possible. And all these years later we're still playing a little box hooked to the TV with attachable controllers and programmable media containing the games. Even though the 2600 wasn't first, it was the first system good enough to make the masses want it.

DK 3 was my favorite of the series. I like the shoot-em-ups. My local arcade tested it and I was just about the only one who dropped in quarters. The NES version is excellent as well.

Has anyone read Game Over? I found it in the clearance rack. It's fascinating. A lot of info on the psychology behing gaming.
