A hard drive full of porn would be the only justification for a gaming system that costs $600.

"Found porn on a new high-tech device" is the new "Found a finger in my Wendy's chili."

What the hell is this! A continue feature in Galaga?
NovaXpress replied to Crazy Climber's topic in Arcade and Pinball
But most operators have it on so they can make more $$$$ I would think they would make less money with it on. I would have easily pumped 5 or 10 bucks in it trying to beat the high score. After I saw the option to continue I thought "what a waste of time" Thats just my opinion though, who knows how these kids think today Well, considering that many others apparently pumped 5 or 10 bucks into it in order to get their high scores the trick must be working. As a gamer, I'd object to such a thing. If I was an arcade operator, you bet I'd let people roll up their scores. -
I disagree with the terminology being used here. I think of a "Holy Grail" as a desired object which hasn't been found yet. So to me the holy grails are games like Airworld, Pepper 2, Mario Bros, etc which are believed to exist but whereabouts are unknown.

The PS3 is an amazing piece of technology indeed, it just has little appeal as a game system. For the past ten years I've been called a Sony fanboy because I totally loved the PS line. But they've lost me with this overblown monstrosity. I've hated M$ on principle for years and rooted against the XBox. But I can face the fact that the 360 kicks ass and delivers everything GAMING-RELATED that the PS3 does for a much lower price. The Wii is it's own animal altogether and will be interesting to watch during the next year.. The fact is that gamers want game systems, not augmented video-disc players.

Fixed it for ya.

Wii has been a smash success and I am happy.
NovaXpress replied to homerwannabee's topic in Nintendo Wii / Wii U
Makes sense to me. We're all veteran gamers who've seen it all and played it all. It's only natural that we'd develop the insight to analyze a system for even a brief time and be able to tell if it appeals to us personally. -

Sometimes it's best to just let a thread burn out rather than drive the bitchiness to a new thread. -
I saw it at a K-Mart.

I think SP is filet mignon, but that's a matter of taste. And you clearly have respectable taste. Futurama is the fucking best.

What are your 2007 gaming predictions?

Nintendo had better get a lot of great games on the shelves. Right now, the 360 has a huge advantage in the amount of good software. The Wii has the sports and Zelda and that's all that's exciting people right now. -
South Park is filet mignon and Family Guy is a greasy hamburger, still enjoyable to eat but it ain't quality.

I find it all fascinating, but I don't have personal favorites. If a system is good, I don't care who makes it. Speculation is part of any interest, harmless fun. I love to analyze trends and make predictions, but mine are no more valuable than the next guy's. But many people are insecure about their own views and get snippy. They get pissed if anyone doesn't like their favorite band, favorite food, or whatever. That's just stupid. I'm glad that no one thinks exactly like I do and I don't look down on people for having different tastes. Yet fanboys are soooo fun to screw with.

There have been many homebrews released over the years. When I joined this board one of the few available was TJ's Thrust. Even after all the cool stuff we've seen since, Thrust still totally kicks ass and is a credit to the hobby.

EA signed a 5-year deal with three years to go, so that's not going to change any time soon. But at the end of the contract, the NFL is gonna demand a hell of a lot of money from their next partner. By that time, the NFL might even decide to open their own game studio and do it all themselves (I guarantee that they will consider the idea). -
Are multi-platform games really necessary?
NovaXpress replied to Brad2600's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Software makers are more powerful than console makers, it's probably for the best. -
There was talk of several rockstar-themed games in the day, KISS and Rolling Stone were considered to be the most likely candidates. Then Journey Escape was released, was a miserable flop, and killed the genre dead.

Xerox is still a protected term, in fact they spent a lot of money to popularize the term "photocopying" including placements in tv shows and movies to establish an alternative. They were very successful. It's been a very long time since any company had a trademark taken away for this reason. Companies are more powerful today than they've ever been and Xerox will keep their trademarks as long as they have enough money to cover lawyer and lobbyist expenses. But the issue is whether a term promotes generic usage or not, and the term "Legos" does not affect the issue in any way.
-
This has nothing to do with genericizing. The word "Legos" protects the brand just as much as the term "Lego bricks." As long as one is referring to Lego-made products, what's wrong with "Legos?" But by promoting a clumsy phrase to loyal fans, Lego does create a new topic of discussion and a sense of superiority among their fanbase. It also causes long, unexpected Lego-themed discussions such as this one. And who cares what a corporation wants? Lego might want me to call their toys "Sparklefunbits" but I'm not going to do it. "Legos" are firmly set into the vernacular and I feel good about using it. Though I don't have an interest in Legos either way so it rarely comes up.

Lincoln Logs? Haha. I think you mean "Lincoln Log Brand Tree-Derived Funtime Products"

Why did early-ish Atari VCS games change colour at game over?

Some Pong consoles did the same thing, don't know about the Odyssey or Channel F. -
Wasn't Space Chase was the game that inspired Frogger and Freeway?

NovaXpress replied to Loccy's topic in Atari 2600
No, it was a screen saver. Older TVs were prone to "burn-in" and that's why the colors cycled on the 2600. Other systems such as the CV would just go to a blank screen.
