  1. Ran into yet another reason to hate EA this weekend. I was at a friend's house and he had just got SSX and wanted to show it to me. EA thoughtfully left out local multiplayer in the game and to play head to head you have to play online (with each person buying their own copy of course). Then when EA shuts down the servers in a couple of years you can't play multiplayer with your game at all!

    T...T...T...Tricky!

    Damn you EA.

  2. There seems to be a little spurt of interest in the Vic of late. I've found myself posting in quite a few threads over a couple of gaming forums. Nice to see my favourite machine getting some love. :)

I should have tried out Gridrunner. I didn't notice it was a Jeff Minter game until after I had unhooked the vic-20.

Never got into the vic-20. I had a PC in 1980, one of the early pioneers in that category, then moved on to C-64 and later the Amiga.

Seems like a nice machine. I'll be auctioning it and about 15 games or so later today, maybe there is something you need.

  3. How cool is that? ;)

Yeah I have plugged in the vic-20 for maybe the first time. Stuck in a Shamus cart, and a Commmodore joystick.

I remember seeing this game being played on, what I remember was an Atari home computer at the closest computer store to my home. I always wanted to play it.

"Boy this is easy" .. I thought thru the first 3-4 rooms, then I got whacked. I don't think the Commodore joystick is all that good for playing games ;) /excuse

Oh well, 30 years after I saw this game played I have a go. Not a bad game!

I suppose I should check out my other vic-20 games while I have this hooked up. Should be interesting to see Jeff Minter's Aggressor.

  4. I noticed when packaging up a shrinkwrapped Popeye for the Intellivision that Popeye was telling me that there was an instant-win game card inside. Obviously way past the expiration date, I could only wonder if the new owner of this game opened it up and found a winning came card, how sad he might be.

Has anyone opened up a vintage game like this to find a winning game card?

  5. Hmm I have heard that the shipping shows up that way for some people.. I don't understand why. I've checked it, the weight is correct, the method is Priority Mail. Handling is $1. It should show $7-$8 max shipped inside the USA. I'll have to check it again.. frustrating.

Edit: On the 2 imagic games it looks like the dimentions are not right, 14x14x9.. so it's kicking into another postage scale. Edit 2: Since there were bids already Ebay's craptastic software would not let me change the dimentions. I had to relist the 2 imagic games to correct this.

  6. That would be Pool of Radiance on the C64 for me. Loved that game!

Epic, Epic game. That damned Lich near the end was hard as hell. I loved this game, you could fail a battle many times if you didn't use the right strategy/get lucky. Paralyze spell was the best. I hated not being able to level your characters past level 10 or whatever the max was.

  7. I shied away from RPG's in the Apple 2 days (Wizardy, Ultima, etc.) because I just didn't get them as a child. The first RPG I ever beat was in the console days and it was the original Phantasy Star on the SMS.

It's funny - I beat this game before the Sega call-in Hint team had any notes on it at all. I sent my contact there a walkthru and a videotape of the ending, she was kind enough to send me a huge stack of SMS hints/cheats. Wish I knew where this stuff went.

As for first RPG beaten.. hmm. Does adventure count? Dragonstomper? I played Temple of Apshai but I'm sure I didn't beat it.. same with Oubliette. Wizardry 6 was a satisfying win. I put it as my favorite game of all time (at the time). I'd say it still resides in my top-10. There has to be one before Phantasy Star for me but my memory fails me.
