Those who love it for what it is, to them it will never run out of steam. To those who loved it because of the craze, the fire under the boiler is almost out. Sure enough its Gameplay time and Graphics havent got a patch on whats avalible to day but aslong as you really enjoy it then it will never matter

Idiots Destroy Heavy Sixer and other Atari 2600s
sega2006 replied to Atari Charles's topic in Atari 2600
What a waste. I only destroy stuff that really cannot be used any more, like a NES controller which had been badly damaged by a Dog Chewing it. If they had though about things they could have made themselves some money off those old machines. -
Should I get that Sega Saturn?
sega2006 replied to atari2600land's topic in Classic Console Discussion
You would be Daft not to buy it. A Saturn Over here can go from £15-£30, so you must be getting an alright deal there. The Batterys are Identical to those found in a Dreamcast VMU and Sega Recomended they be Changed every 4 years (Its whats stated on my PAL Saturn anyway). A lot of Games failed to leave Japan so it would be worth picking up a Import cart Inergrated with RAM and Memory as this will sort your save problems and will allow you to play any Game. Mines the pride of my Collection and Ive had it from new and I must say there is nothing that I like more than the Saturn Console wise. -
For me its what ever I can afford as long as I can use it

Ever really really WANT to like a game, but can't?
sega2006 replied to AtariJr's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Yeah, I could see that especially when the game had such a great soundtrack and cool things going on from a visual design point of view. ok once again i seem to have ticked you off lol.. remember the thread is called games i "really really WANT to like"... yes, one of the reasons why i wnat to like it is because the soundtrack is nice and so are the visuals. but play the saturn version of wipe out and tell me you dont hit walls like a damn pinball. in fact i was bloody shocked when i got the ps2 wipeout and liked it quite a bit. I can manage to go through most of the corners without hitting the wall. You just have to time your turning and you should just zip throught the bend like nothing -
Ever really really WANT to like a game, but can't?

Return to Castle Wolfenstien and Tekken 1 to 3. Completed Tekken 2 once and said to myself, why did I play this? I then promptly switched on my Saturn and went back to Street Fighter Alpha. Sure It aint 3D but its a hell of a lot better -
Just Brought the Tv tuner and its kinda cool, I can only get 5 channels If Im lucky. Not bad for £8.50

Wow, they must have hadall their shit donated to them by some people who just wanted to get rid of non working stuff :\ Even finicky systems aren't that bad... What it tends to be is parents clearing out their Kids stuff that they left behind. Some carts will work but its very rare as most people will take known working ones to either of the 2 Stores around here that give good money for older games. I make an example of my copy of Sonic the Hedgehog 1. Systems dont usaully turn up but when they do they are tested before they are sold, and at that its often rather dog eared examples as people again will take it to the stores that will give good money. And also by test the machine I mean just plug it in at the wall, somthing that GS didnt do when they sold us a SMS once.

They know a Cartridge is a Game, but 98% the cart will not work for some reason. Is that Understandable?

I remember getting a tape from a Charity shop, being told that it was a tape that exsplained the rules of chess (I wasnt that old at the time), I stuck it in a tape player and got a Tape loading Signal that would be better suited to my ZX spectrum than my ears. Tape and Jewel case CD games are always getting mistaken for music. Carts arent so bad although 98% the carts wont work

A Local Market stall has a few tuners, I intend to get one at some point when my budget allows and a shop starts selling decent batterys for cheap as Battery life of a Game Gear is not too dissimlar to that of a Friut fly

Got any Nintendo (non-game) stuff?
sega2006 replied to Gregory DG's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I've got a NES cart T-shirt, a miny Boo figure I got from some 20p machine, a NES pad keyring and my brother has a cart load of Nintendo toys and other stuff -
I have 2 Light sixers and a long Rainbow Jr, the sixer's looking the best but the Jr best on reliability as its the only one that works

I wouldn't recommend that unless you either a) know what you're doing or b) are willing to write it off when the repair operation goes wrong! Old woodgrain Ataris are a real can of worms to repair because the wires inside them are old and tend to break off on the joining cable between the two halves. The Vader and Junior style is a lot easier but still problematic, and it really could be any number of things that's gone wrong - if you have duplicate chips and don't mind de/resoldering them you may be able to diagnose the fault, but even then it could be something like the 7805 regulator (I've had that produce a black screen as the power was enough for the modulator but not the ICs). If you have an oscilloscope it may make your life a bit easier, but the best debugging tool for repairs is simply another console so you can test chips. One other thing - postage is cheap if you take the main board(s) out of the case and send them to me in an anti-static bag. Just let me know if I can help. Thanks, I think I will be better off with your help. I think I may have a couple of Anti-Static bags lying around from a graphics card. Do you want anything for repairing the boards? It may be a week or so before I can send anything as I didnt work this Saturday so I havn't got any cash.

Im going to have to get 2 new sets of chips as Im unable to test them with my Jr's chips are solderd in and I dont want to risk damaging them. Anybody have any idea of what it will cost me?
-
Yep, it sure has.So now I know which bit is which, I can find out (Hopefully ) what is to blame and fix it
-
Dam shame you in London only as I know a stall on the indoor Market in Stvenage and a little shop called re:play in Hitchin which tend to have a good stock of 2600 games. Stevenage and Hitchin are reachable from Kings Cross if you can go that far.
-
I dont know which chip is which, but I am going to have to fix it myself as I cant afford to ship it any where, even just to the next town. The only working one I have is a jr and I dont want to dismantle it in case somthing breaks on that. If any member has a diagram detailing which chip is which then I may be able to find the faulty one, thanks for the help you have given me
