There is - put your client in super seed mode... Ah! I wondered what the difference was. When I first created the torrent and screwed it up I just downloaded the torrent from piratebay and copied my files into the space so that it thought I was a normal downloader that had finished and it started seeding. Must be why it is not in super seed mode. I won't be able to change it until noon as I am not at home.. Most likely done by then anyway.

Well I was a bit off in my esitmate.. Actually it was a very good night, I've pushed about 6 gigs so far but the big influx of the latest arrivals have been causing some resending of data already sent while they catch up to the main group. There really should be a setting that forces sending data that is least represented in the group so if there is only one seed it isn't constantly pushing the same data out to newcommers who can easily get it from the other peers.. As far as rapidshare.. There is a 200 meg limit if I remember right so it would mean uploading chunks (or rather 57 chunks) which would take me days to do (I still have that pesky upstream limit) so you would still be better served using the torrent... Its around 90% so if you start now you should whisk through it pretty quick.

Me too. Looks like the rest of us has to depend on the 2 seeds. I see that about 30 peers have 56% also. It looks like everyone will be hitting that wall soon. Current Wall is at 57.3% .. Like I said 7:30am tomorrow is my guess for the wall to hit 100%. Early evening is the slowest time (speed wise) of the day for me.. I am on full punishment mode from the cable company and all my neighbors are selfishly using the internet .... actually that should be a

Other than the Atari magazines, BYTE, Creative Computing, and Compute! were my interesting reads as a kid in the 80s. Compute! has been done. It would be super-cool to get ahold of BYTE and Creative Computing, however. I was really suprised when I heard those two titles were shut. Does anybody know when BYTE and Creative Computing shut down? I seem to remember a lot of the Creative Computing folks went to Atari Explorer magazine. Heh - there's another one that would be nice to have. When did they go belly up? I got to about 55% and hit a wall. Seeding now, however. MY DSL totally sucks (slowest on the market, esp upload) but I can leave this running when I'm not on the computer. Creative Computing published its last issue in December of 1985. I think BYTE lasted until July of 1998. I have about half of the creative computing mags and 65 of the BYTE mags.. Not been collecting these two for very long so I have hope completing them won't be an impossible task

OK! we hit 50%.. It took roughly 15 hours when accounting for the premature boot last night.. Which means we should finish with the main batch of downloaders around 7:30am tomorrow (Friday) MST...

There are a couple dozen people at 46% so by tomorrow morning there should be plenty of seeders.. As far as megaupload, at this point I am using all of my upload bandwidth. Splitting that to other solutions now would just prolong the torrent seeding more. I could not find the download limit for megaupload (per day, not per file), only that it has one as there were people trying to figure out a way around it... Anyone have an idea of megauploads limitations?

Oh sure!! Or how about *you* ask Al to put up a 3Gig+ download for the masses There is a small download area for subscribers I believe that prevents other sites from linking in and sucking bandwidth for large sized downloads (which is the real problem I imagine). I know there was a 600Meg file there so maybe 3Gig is not out of the question. That would lock out the majority of people though so it is only a partial solution. Firstly, you didn't intimate how large the file was, till you responded to my initial query Additionally not everyone uses torrent places, which limits the number of people downloading these e-books further anyway Because of the size of the file, a better idea would be to have the file split up into each of the 57 e-books (for those with a BB or cable connection) or for those using usb dongles or dial up, to split each of the 57 e-books further into 2 or more smaller files that way you might have more ppl wanting these e-books I put a smiley after my first sentence hoping you would not take it so seriously or personally. It was meant to be said in a joking manner.. Having said that I certainly did mention the size of the torrent in the initial message. I understand there are those that do not frequent torrent sites but it is a simple matter to download a small torrent program and click the download link.. No account needs to be created so the fuss is minimal. I'm not sure why people are so scared of torrents (other than whitnessing my inability to create them correcty) The problem with torrents for this type of thing for me is that they are intitially only as fast as the one seeder and they "expire" after a while. Also, splitting the books up into seperate files sounds like "work" ick.

If you are worried about torrents and "dirty" web surfing I would suggest creating a virtual PC.. Make a copy and then use the virtual PC to get the torrent and move the torrent data off when you are sure it is ok. Then delete the virtual machine since it is just a copy anyway.. Next time you need to do another torrent just make another copy. Nice simple way to sandbox sessions to potentially dangerous places. I am not overly worried about piratebay though its usually the side advertisements that are the problem.

It means that an update applied to my computer and decided to boot my machine (thanks microsoft!) a few hours ago so there has been no seed. I thought that would only happen on the first Tuesday of the month but what do I know? Up and running again...

Ill do it if it ever finishes.... Its like xmodem protocol atm You are at 2.2% whats the problem? See the true joy I get out of this is watching the suffering by dangling the carrot far enough away to cause pain... Hmm... I would expect the pace to pickup somewhat after midnight (mountain time) when my punishment from the cable company ends. Who knows you could be at 25% by morning! As far as sending DVDs... I did make a prettied-up set for these similar to the others I've done.. I am really late on doing the SoftSides though so I wanted to go back and get them first before seeing if anyone wanted a DVD set for the books.. Also I am planning on making a nice navigatable (simple HTML) bluray that will have everything for Atari I've scanned (much more than the sets I have put up here). Anyway I am talking in circles but if someone wants a plain DVD copy send me a line and I'll do it for $3.50.

OK! This is working now.. If you are not seeing any seeds you need to go back up to the top of the thread and try again as I edited the original with the new url...
-
I always seem to screw up the torrent up front.. but in my defense I always seem to do it in a different way. I think the tracker information was bad in the first one.. I edited the original message with the new URL now just waiting to see if peers appear.
-
Thanks for letting me know.. I see one seed and no peers.. checking it now..

Atari User magazine scans ever completed?
ThumpNugget replied to oky2000's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
So what is the good word on this? I have actually chopped the spines from all of my Atari User magazines and the first 13 issues are scanned.. I can complete my end if the project is dead on your side... -
If you live near Boise and looked north towards the mountains at Bogus Basin this last weekend you may have seen a small cloud of smoke rising towards the sky. That smoke was the created from a bonfire made entirely of Atari 8-bit books. 13,730 pages of them to be exact... Sacrilege I know! Please know that a proper eulogy was performed and that they did not die in vane. Their essence has been captured for everyone of us to enjoy. To celebrate their life and give homage for their sacrifice all you have to do is download this torrent and they will be with us forever. There is nothing I can do about this. Also I have some cool robots that require upload bandwidth that I want to play with on Saturday so I would really like some other seeders by then so I can drop off for a bit

I've put it here for the time being.. BYTE August 1980 If someone wants to give it a permanent home and post the details here that would be super....
-
Anyone found a scan of Byte Magazine - in particular looking for August 1980 (the Forth Issue) I've been (slowly) collecting and scanning BYTEs since this thread was started and I do have the August 1980 issue scanned.. I'm running it through an OCR right now... Not overly huge as far as BYTE mags go but it still is in the 200 meg range. Have any place I can upload it?

Hey there.. I mentioned in the initial posting that school ends for me on March 29th and I wasn't planning on working on it until then.. I hope to start back up by next weekend.

Hey! So do you Like fast paced games that test your reflexes and leave you spent with a sore hand and potentially suffering from carpel tunnel syndrome? Well friend be ready to be disappointed because "Isolate" for the Atari 2600 is based off a Milton Bradley game I played with my brother as kid called "isolation". The rules of the game are very simple: Each player has one pawn and a 6x8 grid. Each turn a player will move his or her pawn in one direction to any (still existing) square and then punch out any remaining square. As long as you are still able to move your piece on your turn then you are in the game. If you can't you are "isolated" and lose the game. This sounded like a simple enough concept to try my first 2600 game. I first purchased the original game from eBay: The game: and the board: Here are some of the game screens as the game currently exists: Splash screen... Select a game (there are a total of eight game variations) Game #1 - Standard Game, player vs player Game #2 - Standard Game, player vs computer Game #3 - Both players must pop squares, player vs player Game #4 - Both players must pop squares, player vs computer Game #5 - pawns can move any number of spaces, no diagonals, player vs player Game #6 - pawns can move any number of spaces, no diagonals, player vs computer Game #7 - combination of #3 and #5, player vs player Game #8 - combination of #3 and #5, player vs computer Player 1 move your piece: Player 1 remove a piece: Player 2 remove a piece: Player 1 Wins (yeah I have not put in the "wins" word yet) Game Variation where it takes both players to remove a square. If you "punch" the square you can still move to that square but your opponent can't so you are only blocked from squares your opponent punches out. Square shows the color of the piece that is still allowed to move to it. The game is 16K because all I had for testing on real systems was 16K eproms. Currently 2 4K banks are being used though it would fit into one 4K right now. As of yet the game does not have sound and only uses one joystick for both players. I also have not put in the computer A/I yet and that is the real big hurdle I have left.. I put this game aside to finish up school but with school ending march 29th I now get to finish this game starting in earnest in April. Until then I'm hoping to solicit some ideas as to how to go about doing the A/I... First picking the best square to remove and then where to move the pawn... I Have some basic ideas but nothing that I think will make the computer tough to beat. Remember no laughing now isolate.bin

Just finished making my reservations at the tropicana for July 31st. This will be my first CGE, very happy to see Jay Smith on the list of guest speakers! -
Greetings people... I wanted to do a quick interest check for a SoftSide DVD.. This is basically the same content that is in the Torrent/RapdidShare/etc I put up a while ago with a few minor changes (there were some typos in the filenames, a couple of the magazine numbers were wrong, a few of the pages inside the PDFs were reversed). One large change (at least for me) is that I went through each of the magazines and added bookmarks which makes going through them much nicer: The DVD is similar in style to the STart DVD I recently did (This was my first test print so there are a few errors showing in these pictures - The size of the main print was a bit off so I made a bad cut to fix it; also the inside cover background color is way off as I printed the wrong file but you get the gist of the idea - it will be fixed in the next go-round): Front: Back: Inside 1: Inside 2: Side: It will probably be a couple of weeks until I run these - there are a few minor fixes as noted and the text on the back does not quite read correctly.. Anyway I am at least doing two sets (I owe Allan a set for sacrificing many of his SoftSides)

Is it too much to expect people to combine shipping?
ThumpNugget replied to RickHarrisMaine's topic in Auction Central
Overall I have had pretty good luck with combining shipping on eBay - in general most everyone has been good about it but I almost always ask about it before hand. The one time a guy did refuse to combine shipping I had him ship the packages to three different locations (moms and brothers house along with mine) to make sure he did not profit as well... which was immature but I sure felt better.
