In the home/small business computer market it was consolidation, not a crash.. Though the consolidation was more to a standard than a brand. Many many companies making PC compatibles until years later when the market itself consolidated on the brand side.. Remember computer shopper with the 1000 page issues of 95% generic IBM PC compatibles and hundreds of companies making them.

Gaaaaaa! Well crap.. I had taken the last few pages out and rescanned them after finishing it originally, I don't know what happened I specifically remember adding them back.. I'm going through the other finished mags hoping I somehow put them in the wrong PDF but so far no luck .. This mag and a couple others had some water damage and I did some extra processing to clean it up. I've toned it down for color pages for future scans but there are a few in the pipeline that are already done. On some of the later mags toning it down leaves a lot of bleed through. On the reader cards and inserts: I pull them out mainly because they are basically the same in all issues.. I remember I left them in for Antic and wondered if a single person would ever find it useful.. The same thought (should I be leaving these in) goes through my head each time I chop one up... Some of the later one there can be 10 or so cards that get junked.

Do you still see a large number of 8-bit books that are not on Atarimania? How close are we to the end? If I would have picked a number out of thin air a year or two ago I would have said.. mmm.. maybe 125 total. -

Man! I was looking at the scanned books earlier today and was amazed by the number.. and still here are more out there.. I have not heard of any of these on eBay.. Its unfortunate that the current owners think they are selling first edition books by mark twain -

So what is stopping you? Books are the easiest to scan.. mostly B/W, thicker pages than the magazines, OCR is much more accurate.. Speaking of preservation.. Have the APX catalogs been done yet? I don't think I've seen them out there. -

I am not involved with the Apple II community so I can't really comment about the activity there.. But in general in any community (and especially smaller and specialized communities) there tends to be a core group that drive it and make things happen that in turn drive secondary efforts. The Atari community is pretty exceptional (at least the 2600 and 8-bit groups, I don't know about the ST and Jaguar) in that there are a lot of people doing lots of projects.. But there is still is a core group that kind of lubricates the community and makes it a joy to contribute. For example: Today you have many many Atari sites but there are a few that stand out and centralize the community such as this site.. For me personally: I have actually purchased several programs on eBay for the sole reason they were not in the Atarimania database. I was so happy to make the CAS files and scan the docs and see them pop up on Atarimania. I never would have bothered if there was not a central place that pretty much every Atari enthusiast knew about. How would I have even known if the program had been cataloged? I'm sure I'm not the only one that has done this.. -
working now.. uploaded it to the wrong directory..

Greetings good people.. I recently received an email from wood_jl asking me if I had finished scanning ST-Log. I was a bit surprised it had not already been done.. Based on a post forma couple of years ago he had slowly collected the magazines I did not have and recently mailed them to me.. With a complete set it would shame not get this series scanned The first nine issues of this magazine actually were part of ANALOG magazine and a few were missing from my original scans so I pilfered them from a guy who had been working on his own ANALOG scans to make sure I had a complete set. I've reprocessed them here and done a fresh set of bookmarks to get them as close to the other scans. So! Godaddy says it is an unlimited account, guess we will see It may be a but difficult to get everything in the first few days.. I would encourage anyone who puts these up for free download to post a link in this thread... and if you are reading this in the future and the links don't work see if someone has posted a link. http://www.strikequick.com/scans/STLog/ST-LOG 01 1986-04 Mr Scratch.pdf http://www.strikequick.com/scans/STLog/ST-LOG 02 1986-05 ST Sound Waves.pdf http://www.strikequick.com/scans/STLog/ST-LOG 03 1986-06 VDI Sampler.pdf http://www.strikequick.com/scans/STLog/ST-LOG 04 1986-07 Function Keys.pdf http://www.strikequick.com/scans/STLog/ST-LOG 05 1986-08 Solid States for the ST.pdf http://www.strikequick.com/scans/STLog/ST-LOG 06 1986-09 GEMs Desktop.pdf http://www.strikequick.com/scans/STLog/ST-LOG 07 1986-10 Windows Tutorial.pdf http://www.strikequick.com/scans/STLog/ST-LOG 08 1986-11 C Compiler Reviews.pdf http://www.strikequick.com/scans/STLog/ST-LOG 09 1986-12 Degas Tutorial.pdf http://www.strikequick.com/scans/STLog/ST-LOG 10 1987-01 Xanths New 3D Demo.pdf http://www.strikequick.com/scans/STLog/ST-LOG 11 1987-02 Atari at COMDEX.pdf http://www.strikequick.com/scans/STLog/ST-LOG 12 1987-03 Entertainment Issue.pdf

ST LOG: Need donation of the LAST ISSUE!
ThumpNugget replied to wood_jl's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
The one missing is June 89 - has a guy playing guitar on the cover. The way mine are labeled: April 1989 #30 Label says #30 May 1989 #31 Label says #31 June 1989 #32 Label says #33 (from pictures only, I don't actually have this issue on hand) July 1989 #33 Label says #34 Aug 1989 #34 Label says #35 Sep 1989 #35 Label says #35 Oct 1989 #36 Label says #36 So June 1989 would be issue #32 but would be labeled #33 and no issue was ever labeled #32 ... Then they set the issue numbers back to normal by repeating #35 twice. They always do something to complicate tracking these things -

Hey there.. Thanks I appreciate the offer.. To be honest I don't know how long I will be doing this. I am just going until the equipment gives up.. Could be tomorrow, could be another year or more. I currently have 37 mags left to post (five of those have been scanned but not yet posted).. .I've just completed updating the first post of this thread which shows which mags have been done and those I have not yet scanned/posted. Here is what is missing (looks like 17 mags): Vol 00 (1975) Complete Vol 01 (1976) Complete Vol 02 (1977) Missing: Mar, Jul Vol 03 (1978) Complete Vol 04 (1979) Missing: Oct, Nov, Dec Vol 05 (1980) Complete Vol 06 (1981) Complete Vol 07 (1982) Missing: Jan, Feb, Sep Vol 08 (1983) Missing: Jan, Mar, Apr, Jun, Jul, Nov Vol 09 (1984) Complete Vol 10 (1985) Missing: Feb, Mar, Dec Vol 11 (1986) Complete 1977 and 1982 would be the priorities.. 1982 has the Atari articles that have never been completely scanned. Have any of those?
