  1. Just back from my vacation and had these in one of the awaiting packages: Plus a few other goodies: Saaaweeet!
  2. The Antic labels: Disc 1 Label Disc 2 Label Disc 3 Label Antic Cover.lbl
  3. Sweet.. Thanks for doing that. I should have put these on the discs in the first place. I'll make sure to do that in the future. I'll get the antics posted tonight after work. They will require two different programs (Acoustica and "Sure Thing CD label") to convert.
  4. Quick note to everyone that received discs: Two discs have been reported to have errors and had replacements sent out. By now hopefully everyone received thier copies (possible exception of 1 UK, Greece, Australia that went last monday) please check your discs to ensure there are no problems! I will be on vacation until early march starting later this week (Remote part of the Cayman Islands WooWoo!) so I won't be able to address any issues until then I get back if I don't get them in the next day or two.
  5. Shawn Jefferson has a torrent up: http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/4728136/An..._Magazine_Scans
  6. Original Disk Labels can be found here: http://www.strikequick.com/Analog-Disc-Labels.rar 38 Megs..
  7. Holy crap! Ironically you are one of the closest people to me and about the slowest to receive mail. If you were just a few miles south or east it would have been there a week ago... As far as the labels.. They require the Acoustica label software. The label files run large: 28 megs for the first disc and 94 megs for the second disc. The software can be used free for the first 30 days... Edit: They compressed to 36 Megs.. Trying to upload to my FTP site...
  8. Again, I think it is a chicken and the egg thing here.. At 65% ownership we were in pretty good shape.. It was that last 5% that did us in. People are living beyond their means.. Millionaires are living beyond their means... Not just the middle class and the poor. My ex-wife never graduated high school and still managed to own ten homes that she bought over a four year period. She should never been able to get loans for them. My neighbor makes less than half that I do but somehow has a 21 foot boat and a new 50,000 car every six months. There are houses in my neighborhood that are 1,000 square feet smaller than mine that someone paid over 100,000 more for less than 18 months after I bought my home. What do you think caused those home prices to skyrocket so fast? There was no house shortage.. Just a *lot* of people that suddenly had access to money that they should not have. My girlfriend works with a guy making 12.00 an hour, has a new baby, a 2400 square foot house, and two new vehicles. His wife does not work. He won't sell one of the vehicles because "this is the standard of living I have chosen." He is living beyond his means and is mad at the world that he might lose his house. He is waiting it out to get a bailout (that would be from you and me). I used to laugh at people like these because they were cooking their own goose. It never occurred to me that they would take the rest of us down with them. Once their actions deflated the markets and started the asset price landslide the innocent got caught up in it as well... and are now the true victims in all of this. Watch CNBC and MSNBC during the weeknights, both of these networks have shows where they have experts interview people having difficulties and give them advise.. They show you their credit scores, credit, income, etc.. I can't believe these people every night with 50,000+ in credit card bills and barely able to feed themselves that decided to buy a 400,000 dollar house.. The entire country as a whole is living beyond its means. We need to adjust to that and not pass Trillion dollar borrowing sprees to hand to our children in hopes of propping up artificial asset prices. The best it will do is make another temporary bubble. Like I said I used to have a live and let live policy but I never understood just how much that stupid 5% was able to effect the rest of us and how willing lenders were to let it all happen. Criminals or idiots or both. I understand it is scary. The company I work for has gone through 7 rounds of layoffs in the last few years... We compete directly against walmart and "compete" sometimes is charitable... ... I'm not making any friends today
  9. The Antic had so many little things to pull out it was hard to decide what to include.. A bunch of stuff was pulled out and never used... These are PNGs with a transparent background so they might be a little funny looking until you click them.. Also they not all completely cleaned up:
  10. Finished up these scans today... I'm still looking for June 1992 (#14) and December 1992 (#20) to finish this magazine up and send it out into the world Again this is the *American* AtariUser, not the U.K. Atari User
  11. A lot of possible chicken and egg reasoning flaws with some of your thinking. Here is another view: Housing prices were way to high. The Reason? Too many people who should not have were able to get loans. The Reason? Banks and lenders found a way to package up these loans and put them up for investors which caused markets to rise abnormally. This created a market for buying these packages, and pushed property values to artificially high values. Once housing prices are rising extremely fast people start building houses for the sole purpose of selling them (flipping them). This is normally a self correcting process (small pricing bubbles) however with the cycle of credit risky people able to get cheap loans there was a lot more "stupid" money to continue to push up house prices which pushed the packaged loan to investors even higher. Eventually people started borrowing money they could not pay with the idea of simply flipping the house and taking the extra money before a payment was due. This also caused higher gas prices. People (overall) were flushed with money from buying, selling, and investing in mortgages. When gas prices started to rise the usual balancing with demand lowering when the price went up didn't happen because people (as a whole) could afford to absorb the cost. When prices hit $4.00 the balancing finally happened and prices stabilized. Eventually this had to blow since at the end of the day someone has to actually pay for all these loans. The Government also played a hand in this by requiring loans to credit risky people. There goal was admirable..They wanted 70% home ownership. I think they found that 70% of people are not ready for that responsibility.
  12. It would be nice to get an organized database of all the periodicals (including the newsletters) and make them available to everyone. There are a lot of great ideas for consuming the content that will exist as net speeds increase and (hopefully) costs come down... The first step in any of these ideas is to get the periodicals scanned and out there... For that to happen people are going to need to be a little less tight fingered with their copies ... At least break out those duplicates I have to believe on this web site there are enough duplicates in peoples collections to make up a complete collection of STart, ST-LOG, Page 6, Atari Explorer, and the other common magazines. Anyone want to volunteer some of those duplicates???
  13. I have an update on this though probably most of you don't care heh I was able to find the owner of this store, it was called "commodore computer center". She actually closed it in December of 2006 but until it was closed it was open Tuesday-Friday 10:30 to 5:30 doing commodore and Amiga sales and repairs. A good chunk of the inventory is listed on their old web page http://www.commodorecomputercenter.com/ though I would not recommend calling the voice line listed as it is their home line
  14. My girlfriend says the same thing only I don't think she is saying it as a compliment....
  15. Sorry about that.. I'll get you another disc sent out asap... I'm sticking a copy of #21 up right now on the web.. I had the URL posted but as soon as I had posted it the transfer died.. When it gets there successfully I'll post a URL.
  16. I had a 2600 for a year before getting a 400... Part of the bargain I struck with my parents to get the 400 was that I had to give the 2600 to my brother. He ended up getting a vic 20 a year later and sold the 2600 in a garage sell with all of the carts for $40.00 a year after that.. HECK of a deal for someone at the time. I never really looked back at the 2600.. I even started losing interest in the 8-bit when I moved to Idaho in 1984 as I didn't know anyone with Ataris here. My parents bought me a modem and it sucked me right back in. I was a BBS junkie for several years after that I loved the BBS scene, I think it kept the 8-bits alive years longer than it would have otherwise..
  17. I pulled out the two I have here that I made with the rest and they loaded issue #21 OK.. Which is good because I would have had a heart attack if they had been bad If anyone else experiences any issues with the discs please let me know.. I'll make replacements up and get them sent out.
  18. I did notice! I was surprised nobody pounced on it at the time... I had a couple of emails back and forth with him and Mr. Pappas about the Analog scans and sent them links to the ANTIC marketplace scans forum message as well as this forum message to show them what I was wanting to do.. Its very cool to converse even if it is just a little with people who's names you have seen in print a million times. This actually came up in a team meeting at work last week (I am a systems engineer and the only unix/mainframe guy on a team full of windows programmers). We always start our weekly meetings with something we accomplished in the last week (personal or professional) so I shared that I had completed scanning another old Atari magazine set (it got great laughs when my friend brought up the Antic scans a few months back).. Anyway I ended up taking over this meeting for 15 minutes explaining how Tom Hudson had found some routines for 3-D wireframe graphics on a college bulletin board and came out with the Solid States article that had a couple of followup articles... I think that led him directly to the creation of Cyber studio on the ST. He then moved over to the PC to create 3D studio which eventually morphed into 3dsmax... I actually kept their attention so I was quite happy.. heh There are several amusing ANALOG stories on Tom Hudson's site... Including pictures of them in the early days of analog doing the covers.. Priceless stuff: http://analog.klanky.com/
  19. Hi ThumpNugget Since you're not doing a new set of ANTICs DVDs, could you please share with us the pictures of the DVD covers son we can print them at home? I know there are some covers scans included on the torrent, but these are just black and white...do you have the original covers in color? Regards I have the individual pictures used to make up the discs and cover but the disc images/cover images themselves I have to remake.. I used several programs to print these out and they have all since expired the free trial except for the one I decided to register for the Analog sets..
  20. Apparently I am smoking crack today.. I missed the last five people. I fully blame paypal for the "previous" button not showing new payments while I was on. I need to add: remowilliams nuy mrfish cyranoj ggn remo and mrfish I will put in the automated mailer on Sunday cyranoj, nuy, and ggn will go out monday (out of country mailings can't use the automated mailer) Sorry about that people! ... And that's it! 35 made, 33 mailed out, 1 for me, 1 for my brother special thanks to remo, fish, boog, and pppbah for the extra stash! (see, give me extra mula and I am so grateful I forget to mail out your stuff). I'm planning on using all the money to buy a stack of current notes magazines for future PDF goodness... Thanks everyone!
  21. Quick not to let everyone know that I mailed out a bunch of the ANALOGS today. I went through paypal, matched the names up, and sent them out. I don't think I missed anyone but if I missed you please let me know. There were one or two that sent in a PayPal payment after I went to the post office today.. Sorry those won't get out until Monday. Specifically packages were sent to: ibaeza poobah allanc tjb (2 of them) albert boog mirage1972 rdea6 guitarman bf2k+ shawn jefferson spookt aland stephen maguman draugr holmesa8 idavis ponderosa atarimania (1 Analog and 1 ANTIC - the last one) atarimac fuji-man d-wilson mimo foster telengard debro .. Notice sitting innocently in the DVD pictures is a pile of AtariUser magazines That is the next magazine set I would like to get scanned. This is an American magazine (It is not the UK Atari User) published from may 1991 to October of 1993. I am missing 2 of the 21 issues: Issue 14 (June 1992) and Issue 20 (December 1992). If anyone knows where these can be obtained or looking to trade to complete their set (I have dupes of Jul-91, Nov-91, Dec-91,Jan-92,Feb-92,Oct-92,Nov-92) please get in touch! Thanks.
  22. Hey there... I use the Fujitsu ScanSnap (I think it is the S510 model), it works really well but it is tough to keep clean... If you have looked at some of the other magazine scans you will notice a lot of streaking in the pages. I had the same problems with the Antics (not to the same extent that the other mags have had) and in some of the beginning ANALOG scans. I scanned them backwards so the earlier ones are much better... Always a learning process I just went through issues 2-5 (4 issues) and there was only one small streak in any of them.. A couple of the black pages will have a light green line.. That is because they show streaks very easy.. Usually I run a magazine through and then clean the scanner then go back and rerun pages that show streaks. If I run them though several times the rollers crease the paper and create the lines... At that point it will only get worse so I have to stop. I didn't do this in the later ANALOG issues so there are a bit more streaks... I didn't figure out a really easy way to rescan and replace until I was over half way done.
  23. Hi people.. I've send PMs to everyone (other than fuji-man, atarimania, and atarimac as I have everything from them). If I missed you please let me know!
  24. You are already on the list silly I just want to make sure the people in the bottom 11 (bottom 8 now - subtract Telenguard, foster, user42) still want them.
