I've given myself about a year to complete what I can of my collection and get it scanned... so I try to get one series complete, scan it, make a DVD, and move to the next one...

Great! I finished it just now. It's great to have the whole set. Unfortunately, some of them are in pretty poor shape. Someone used some of them for clip art... lots of pictures cut out, and in some cases I've found that parts of the type-in programs are missing as a result. Oh well, it's certainly better than nothing. Hopefully someday someone can scan some better, more complete magazines to replace these. Gaaa.. That is too bad that there are missing parts of the magazine. Family Computing was on my list to scan but I only have maybe half the magazines.. Hopefully there is some overlap with the bad ones so I can fill in some of the missing stuff.. Greetings people. This post is to gather a list of people interested in getting a copy of ANALOG Magazine in PDF format on DVD. This is the complete series of ANALOG (79 issues) and most of the magazine disks in ATR format (from issue #9 on). These magazines were not all perfect. A couple have waves from water damage, writing and highlighting of some of the code, and mail labels on some the covers. If you have seen the ANTICS these run about the same quality. This is not done to make money... I like to make a DVD set for myself when I get a complete magazine scan done. Some people also like to have a DVD so I make some extra ones and sell them for material costs only (The CD case, overly expensive printer ink, two archival Taiyo Yuden DVDs, paper, and packaging for the shipping). There will no doubt be a bit torrent and people putting this up on the web in the very near future (less than a month) so if all you are looking for is the PDFs they will be available on the web soon. The price for the DVDs will be $7.50 in the U.S. (this includes shipping) and $6.00 + shipping outside the U.S.... I know the shipping for the ANTICS ran about 5.40 to the UK, Australia, New Zealand, etc.. This set will be the same or less (one less DVD). I want to thank fuji-man for breaking open his sealed issue #1 and scanning it for everyone, luckily I was able to photoshop out the tear stains... Also a gentleman named Mr. Kowatari (yes that is his real name) who has been scanning ANALOG and putting it up on the web. I took several of his issues numbers 40-48 that contained ST-LOGS when I found my ANALOGS were missing them. The ANALOGs (unlike the ANTICS) have been OCR'd so they can be searched. One quick word about the pics below: I know they are a bit rough. I am still finishing these up and this was just a quick do-up to get an idea of what it would look like... I know there is stuff that needs to be fixed.. In other words: The blemish on the front cover is a reflection of my hand.... I know it isn't cut straight, I did it with scissors. My girlfriend has some crafty cutter thing that makes straight cuts as long as I watch desperate housewives with her when she does it.... I know there are misspelled words, missing words, and run on sentences.... I know the shadow on the big "a" is off the page.... I know there is a white ring on the second CD.... The city scene with the Atari symbol as the building will have the city removed (it will just be the big yellow Atari symbol).... I know I butchered the left edge of the back and cut off poor sally forth, our game, and panak strikes column headers. ... Anyway if you would like a set please let me know (preferably in a reply here) and I will send out and mass PM to confirm and frisk for money My assumption is that there will be less people that want this than the ANTIC since it is obvious there will be a torrent soon but I'm prepared to make up to 30 sets... My goal is to start shipping these around next Friday (first Friday of February).. I already have Atarimania and AtariMac on the list.

What's annoying is that updates aren't available seperately. Like I notice on his Run torrent, that this one is updated with all 5 special issues. Just got done downloading the old set that was missing the first special issue. Why on earth couldn't that issue be tormented as a separate issue as well, rather then just as a complete archive. Why do I, along with everyone else who has downloaded the old set, need to fight with damned torrents to download 4.5 gigs of stuff we already have just for 1 additional 60 meg file? You can do that with these Torrents... Because they are broken down by file you can simply mark the files you want to get.. In your case you want "Run_Issue_Special_1_1985" so when you download the torrent and the file list pops up, highlight the entire list of files, click "unselect all" then check the box by that magazine only... 94 megs later and you are a proud owner of that file... Well... that file and usually a few K of the file directly before and after it in the list since what you are actually doing is selecting the blocks to download.. But you don't have to download the entire thing again. This doesn't work of course if the files are in an archived zip/rar file(s). If bandwidth was not not an issue I am sure his site would probably offer the ability to grab an entire magazine run or just click on the magazine thumbnail for a particular issue. There is no perfect (cheap) solution right now... What I would hate to see is ten different torrents each with various pieces missing or requiring people to get multitudes of them to get an entire run.. I really like that he is keeping track of what he has done and publishing it in a centralized place. He can't host them but he makes sure that people can find them.

...Which reminds me: Scanned a K-Power a couple of days ago and found this little GEM (it was a small picture so the quality is bad)

Do you know where we can find these scans? None of the Compute! scans are available yet. From what I understand the run will be split into four torrents.. Issues 1-41, 41-80, 81-120, 121-159. They should be up by the end of next week though the guy that is putting them up is also putting up the (i think complete) run of Family Computing magazine and a good chunk of the Home Computer magazines so who knows what order and how long that will take... I did not ask where but so far everything he has done has been on piratebay and also posted to alt.binaries.emulators.cbm so that is a pretty good bet I am sure once they are available the link will pop up here in short order and we can all participate in a PDF torrent orgy. You don't have long to wait for Compute! .. The guy that has been scanning it only has one more issue to go. I can't imagine the size it is going to be though... 159 magazines with some running into several hundred pages.. That will run what.. 25,000 pages? (I have no idea how large the later issues were) I noticed he compresses his scans a little more than I do (about 60% of the size) but still that will be 15-18 Gigs I would think. I can't imagine it would be too difficult for someone to print a bunch more of these For the record I made 30.. I kept two for myself and gave one to my brother.... Of the remaining 27: 19 in the USA, 3 went to the U.K, 2 to Canada, 1 to Greece, 1 to New Zealand, and 1 to Australia. I accidentally sent NuY my first copy with the only difference being that the cover page used was light gray instead of the light tan. One person bought two copies, everybody else just bought one. Sweet! I like the thumbnail view.. I do everything with text only so I had not viewed it like that.. Finally finished up scanning these today This is the full set thanks to Fuji-Man who broke open his Analog issue #1 and scanned it! Thanks thanks thanks! I'm just guessing on the dates for issues 4-9 as they only have the year.. I Don't suppose anyone knows the actual dates?

Obvious question but are you sure you have your firewall set to allow *incoming* connections from peers on say ports 50,000-60,000 ?? I tried the RUN magazine torrent with the ports blocked and was getting next to nothing.. Turn them on and I'm not blazing fast but currently averaging 90 kB/s on the RUN mags and about 150 kB/s on the Gazette magazines... If any of the seeds/peers block incoming request (router default) and your router firewall does as well you can never exchange any of the content data with that particular seed/peer... at least one side has to allow it.

I understand how you feel... But looking at the material for Atari magazines and books you are talking at least 35,000+ plus pages to scan them all (never mind the magazines like Compute!, Softside, Family Computing, etc). Any hope of making a dent in getting that much scanned requires a system that requires as little work as possible. Having each sheet in a separate page protector in a large folder makes it really nice to read anyway.. I can lay down on the carpet and not have to hold pages down or worry about damaging the magazine. This way not only are they being preserved they are being enjoyed

I enjoy reading the real thing much more that viewing them on a computer... I've been putting each page in a page protector as I've been scanning these and putting them into 3 inch D ring binders. It is so nice to be able to grab a folder and thumb through the pages and know I'm not damaging them.. It does take up a lot of space and costs a bit and is (so) boring to do (4500 sheet protectors for ANTIC - The magazines just pile up until there is a football game on and I'm in front of the tv) but the end result is worth it.
