  1. BYTE Vol 02-04 1977-04 Baudot Machines - 180 Pages 109,260,127 bytes BYTE Vol 02-04 from April 1977... Going for four this week so I had to get this one out to make the goal.. I'm a but BYTEd out this week so I didn't go through the articles in an overly detailed fashion. The usual suspects of goodness: A bit on the 8008 - it is 1977 and they are already calling this processor slow and out of date and have labeled it "first generation". There is an article on the Apple II (with a picture) which I think is the first mention in BYTE (The magazine issue date is a month before the Apple II launch)... Some of the background articles have some strange names - "WHY AREN'T THERE ANY ALTAIRS ON ARCTURUS II?" So the theme is "Easy Software" and they really went to town for the theme this month: 16 articles. As I mentioned before the article on the ATR8000 and the other one on Microsoft Windows 1.0 and the one for the CMOS 6502 are the must reads. I am sure there are others! All about user interfaces and making programs easier to use (15 large article on the topic) with a detailed look at Microsoft Windows 1.0 and a very detailed look at the ATR8000 for the Atari 8-bit.. 4. BYTE Vol 03-03 1978-03 Computer Music Systems - 228 Pages 153,461,543 bytes BYTE Vol 03-03 from March 1978... Good issue. Part two of the CIE network - this issue focusing on protocols... A user report on the PET 2001.. Part 3 from the brains ans machine articles. Lots of stuff for hardware people: A Two Computer Music System, the Microcomputer Pipe Organ, and the huge Interfacing OEM Floppy Disks into personal computer. The Pipe Oran reminded me of a restaurant as a child - they had a place called "Pipes and Pizza" that not only had the pipes computer controlled but many many more instruments on the wall like drums and symbols.. The place was great, It went out of business in the late 70's. I;m sure today they would have even more instruments and they would all be MIDI controlled Looks like there are still some "Pipes and Pizza" places around but they don't look anything like the one I remembered. Well somebody at AtariUser headquarters sure loved those yellow covers I wonder if it was because at the end of the day color printers always have a lot of yellow ink left? 6. Excellent, excellent... The cheapest method for shipping is good.. I still have 50+ BYTES in the "to-scan" pile so there is a long way to go before worrying about any sort of shortage. As far as a new scanner.. I am betting this one is going to hold out for another 50,000 pages... thats my goal!
  7. Hey there Darryl, I really appreicate the offer! Here is what is missing up through 1986: Vol 4: 10,11,12 Vol 6: 6,7,11 Vol 7: 1,2,5,8,9,10 Vol 8: 1,3,4,6,7,11 Vol 9: 8,10,12 Vol 10: 2,3,4,5,6,7,10,12 Vol 11: 11 Might be a bit pricey from your side of the world I am also wondering how much longer my current scanner is going to last.. So far the worst it has given me is some wierd sounds while scanning but still running like a champ (not a single paper jam since returning from vacation - over 2000 pages). Have you tought of converting those tiffs to pdfs for future distribution?

  10. BYTE Vol 11-09 1986-09 The 68000 Family - 478 Pages 330,720,249 bytes BYTE Vol 11-09 from September 1986... Oh I like the big issues! The early issues are great but I just have a thing for the 81-86 issues.. So I made a statement a couple months back with another 86 issue that it was the only time an Atari made the cover.. There is an Atari ST on the cover here so obviously I was wrong This issues feature is the Motorola 68000 processor and the machines that used it. The articles were all excellent but for me what made this issue was the reviews: A Franklin Ace, Turbo Prolog, Leading Edge, Xerox 6060.. WordPerfect! Sweet! The article on CRCs was a close second! 11. I'll do that as soon as I finish replying. I appreciate all the help you guys have given here I think since during most of February there were only a few mags that traffic has died down... I've had a bit of insomnia this past few days so I put some time into extra scanning - there should be four mags this week including two large ones (about a gig total in size - 1500 or so pages). Traffic might pick up!

No good! and they keep messing with the format making it difficult for me to give a decent consistent looking index to you good people. This magazine came out late when published because they were holding out for information on the new Ataris that never came... Also they were going to have more BBS related articles but the person writing them was sick so hence the 28 pages. Still there is some news about CeBIT 92 and the news log is always interesting.. Reading the article on describing the brain in terms of it being a computer was very interesting. There is even a list of attributes and requirements (energy requirements, capacity, etc) almost like reading the requirements and stats for a video cards The two other interesting articles for me is the good review of the SOL-10 since up until now I've only seen pictures and descriptions of the SOL-20. 19. AtariUser 11 1992-03 Guide to Getting Online - 36 Pages 29,945,842 bytes Issue #11 of AtariUser Magazine from March 1992.. Some changes to the magazine format and in my opinion one fo the best issues. This one focused on telecommunications including all the main services and BBS's. Mostly ST based stuff with just a smidgen of 8-bit. I remember using Aladdin on GEnie back in the day so the article was very enjoyable. There is also a call out about PC-Pursuit (spelled wrong in the magazine) and compression programs that was not listed in the index for some reason. The news and reviews were particularity interesting this month (many pages and the new headline formats are nice) though no mention of Z*Net this month and they generally had many smaller news update..
