It was doing this before I took it apart, but I think the problem is that the actual catch itself (looks like a pin in white plastic?). I looks sort of warn out and doesn't want to click into place. I'll fiddle with it and see if I can adjust it somehow, the bay too.

I got an ok deal on a toaster nes from ebay. Cleaned it up, bent the pins up on the old pin connector, and clipped the lockout chip (thanks for all the guides!).
However, the mechanism for keeping the cartridge down is really tough to get to click into place. Any way to fix this? Now that I've adjusted the pins, I think I can get most games to work without having to even do this, but I was curious if anyone has any ideas other than taking parts from another NES?

Are issues available to buy as PDFs? It would be much easier for me if that were the case. This magazine looks awesome, but the price with over seas shipping makes it prohibitive.

Nevermind, I figured it out.

And they rock!I don't understand, what does this product do?

Got a pic of that particular Famiclone? Here we go, this is the one I've got, mine is the silver one. The pic doesn't really show it, but the rear side of the top of the unit has the Hyperkin logo (the same place as the Yobo one).
This is, by the way, about the best deal you can get on these that I have found.

By the way, what does the Hyperkin look like?Mine is silver, and in shape, size, and design is almost identical to the Yobo, except the controller ports are on the left instead of the right.
It's weird, because there used to be many on Ebay, but none anymore. There is also a hyperkin light gun knock off that I have that works pretty well.

And I presume they have the usual sound alterations that are o-so-common on Famiclones(how exactly do they behave, sound-wise and graphic-wise, remember, I look at every single little detail like that I can picture what I'm to expect if I ever get an FC Twin)?I can't answer this because it's been at least 14 years since I played a "real" NES. I can tell that Super Mario Bros has altered sound, but I haven't noticed anything different with Punch Out or Castlevania. that isn't to say that any real die hards wouldn't notice something. I'm a casual gamer in this regard, so to me it is just fine. At this point I just use the FC Twin for SNES games, and I use my Hyperkin (it's nearly identical to the Yobo) for NES games to use the light gun and in general. But I play my Hyperkin more than the FC win. If I played each kind about the same I'd just leave the FC twin out and play games and just use the SNES controllers.
One thing I did notice was that I bought SNES extension cords for the controllers, and they did not work on the FC twin, I dont know why.

By the way, Gorilla, does your NES and SNES collections have any of the games included on my list?I have Punch Out and Castlevania, and both work.

WHAT?!?!?!?!?! That thing costs $40 Canadian plus 13.5% tax where I found it! Luckily the FC Twin costs $80 Canadian taxes in. Now, I found two different kinds. One has FC Twin behind the NES cart slot and one has a Yobo logo at its place(what's different between them?). If I'm to get one, it'd be in white. As far as I know, from everything I've read so far, the FC Twin has the same compatibility with the NES as other NES on a chips (like the Yobo Nes clone). I have a Hyperkin NES clone that is nearly identical to the YOBO console.
I aos Have a FC Twin. I have not heard of any SNES game that didn't work on it. I have a small collection of games, so although all of mine work that isn't saying too much.
I like having a NES clone that uses the old controllers, too, because I sometimes play Duck Hunt and other light gun games.

cool replies...I think I may get one.
I'm a little worried about DSP games though.
All of my worries are:
DOOM
Star Fox
Super Noah's ark (dumb ass game, but oddly addictive...)
Super Mario Allstars
Pilotwings
Mario Kart
F-Zero
and of course Ballz 3D
Other than that, my library is pretty common.
also what about fami and super fami games, will they fit??
I can vouch that DOOM works on the FC Twin.

The FC Twin on Wiki says that only 5 or so games from NES and SNES don't work with it. I've had an FC Twin for about a week and im pretty happy with. Only complaint is that it feels really really cheap, it's light as a feather and feels rather easy to break.I think it feels "kind of" cheap. Not as rock-solid-hard-plastic as the original SNES, but yeah a little flimsy. Overall, just be gentle and I'm sure it will be fine. The controllers seem sturdy enough, though.
-
I have an FC Twin, and I'm very happy with it. The SNES compatibility is far better than the NES compatibility, though I've never seen an actual SNES compatibility list.
I'd say if you are concerned about the appearance, then go for the FC Twin.

Got my Power Pak today and it has the resistors to fix the bus conflict.
Yes!Now to try it out on my A/V Famicom and Super 8 NES to SNES adapter.
How's it working out for you?

I'm on my Wii right now and it won't let me cut and paste. I bought the one I linked to in my original post. This is the system: http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewIt...p;rd=1&rd=1
I thought the system inside would be like the Game Genie and take some force to put the game in... this you just set it in and the cart moves back and forth inside... it's weird.
Sounds like you bought a particularly bad one. If you want to get a clone, I'g get the Yobo or FC Super Loader....both are cheap and work.

kicks yobo hiney.
I'd love to have one, but not at that price!

I beat Wizards & Warriors on my FC Twin last night.

As far as Famiclones go the Yobo/NeoFami isn't even well built. It looks nice, but it has WORSE audio (much worse) and lots of slowdown compared to the Famulator or many other clones. Where the Famulator is one nice, clean masked PCB the Yobo/NeoFami is a mess of patch wires and last minute hand soldering work, and hot glue everywhere.
I have the FC Super Loader by Hyperkin, which looks alot like the Yobo, and works great. Uses the NES controllers too. They even make a zapper rip off and I can play duck hunt.
-
If the Yobo is not an emulator but uses "real" hardware algorithms, then why are there compatibility issues? Why do some games not work?
-
So, would everyone advise against the Neo Fami?
If you mean the Yobo Game Console (US version of Neo Fami) then I say go for it!
-
Your best bet? Buy a used top-loading unit on eBay. You won't pay much more, the audio reproduction will be perfect, the connector will work brilliantly so long as you take very basic steps to keep it clean on occasion. And of course, your existing NES peripherals will all work.
All true, but for me there is also something fun about farting around with famiclones.

Yeah I've had the same thing with Gauntlet on my FC Twin and on my FC Super Loader.
Gauntlet II works just fine though on both of these units.

That's cool that we have more clones that take the original controllers, I didn't know that one was like that. yeah, I have the one in that last link in your post. I have my doubts that mine and this one are from the same company, but that could be the case. The controllers look very similar, though that may not mean much. As far as Mario goes, I have played Super Mario and Super Mario 3 on the Super Loader, and the speed and everything was fine.
The reason I thought they'd be from the same company is because in the pic, it shows your console, then to the right, it shows the Family Boy, which was made by XPG. I would get the one you have just to be safe, but that seller's feedback shows poor communication and a lot of negs this month, whereas the other guys is cleaner. I found a guy online who made a site about the Family Boy and he said it was a good machine. Since the same company made this, I'd assume it's the same unit with a different outer shell.
I'm havin' a fun time researching and figuring out what company made which of these. I didn't know these type of things existed until I saw the Family Boy on ebay a couple years ago. I just like their small size and the fact that they'll generally work on the first try.
I bought my superloader from this person...

I had mine at my door on the second day after I bought it! I also bought the zapper gun of the same brand from this person, and overall I am happy with the quality. The controllers on the SL are sturdy. The only thing I don't like is that the A and B buttons ar kind of in positions I'm unaccustomed to, but I am getting used to it.

Neo-Retro 8 bit NES games out there?

Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone knows of links to completely new NES roms out there? Is anyone currently developing these so they can be used on emulators? Links to free or for sale ones would be appreciated!
(for that matter, new games for Atari, sega, etc. would be appreciated too)
