  1. i have upgraded 100's of these over the years and i'm telling you DO NOT mix speeds, it will UNLIKELY work

Can you tell us why they will UNLIKELY work?

DRAM chips (as most other chips) are usually manufactured at a single speed. The only difference between faster and slower grades is that the slower ones failed some of the compliance testing.

In some cases they even didn't fail at all, and when you use a 150ns chip you might be very well using a 120ns or even a 100ns one. This happens when the manufacturing process matures and most chips produced reaches the highest level. But the manufacturer still wants, for marketing reason, to sell slower grades. So it is not uncommon to mark a chip as slow (say, 150ns) while it is really a fully tested faster one (say 100ns).

i have used and still do use 150 quite happily. i've never had a problem, many early STF, STFM had 150 speed on the motherboards for their main memory factory fitted

Yes, I know, and I agree it will likely work. But if you analyze the ST timing, 150ns is not enough. It works most of the time because the chips have tolerance, and because you usually don't operate at the worst temperature range. But why to take chances when nowadays there is no price difference?

well if Atari fitted them to their machines then doesn't that say they are ok to use! even if they were "of the time" yes if you have a choice then 120 would be better but if you can only get 150 then don't worry!

  2. i have a version of steinberg cubeat...but it has gone defective....does anybody have a copy to

    send to me?

basically just need master disk..the cubase.dat folder ,mros, cubeat.prg.....files

    ok thanks

been looking for some time now...

    are you still after this?

PM me if you want it.....

  3. Don't use 150ns chips, use 120ns or better.

Some STs shipped with 150ns RAMs. But this is, strictly, against the specs. They would likely work, but better not to take chances.

Mixing speeds (say, 120ns and 100ns) shouldn't be a problem at all.

    sorry but i totally disagree!

    either use 100, 120 or 150

  4. hi people

hopefully someone could help me with me old VCS!

basically it seems to be dead :(

when i turn it on with a cartridge in the slot i get a dark clear screen - no white noise and no sound

it's not the cartridge as i've tried loads

i've changed the RF module and cable, i've checked all solders and can't find any bad ones

    any ideas?

  5. thanks for your replies

well i have 4 of them dead! i have cleaned the contacts till they gleam! and even tried them on another console i have and they are still dead

funnily enough they were all kept together so maybe that has something to do with it - i bought them from someone so i have no idea of their life though others are ok

i did also check the solders on each cart where the chip is soldered in and checked all the tracks and they all looked fine

anyway enough is enough sad to say they are in the bin now :(

  6. hi people

well i'm selling an original VCS CX 2600 made in Sunnyvale so the sticker says underneath - it's the 6 switch type in very good condition for it's age of nearly....30 years! (amazing!) comes with 2 original atari joysticks and a pair of paddles and original atari PSU and 3 games: space invaders/combat and pacman

    nothing is boxed

all tested and fully working - nothing dodgy!

i'm in the UK and really only want to ship within the UK

i'd like £25 for it but i'm open to offers if that's too high

PM me or reply here :)

almost forget - if you want pictures i could take some and email them to you......

  7. hi all

maybe someone can answer this for me please

basically i have a VCS and 4 of the carts i have will not work - i've tried cleaning the contacts till they are bright but nothing

while other cartridges work fine so i guess they are just dead after all these years

can anyone tell me why this happens or what causes it?

    thanks

  8. Hi people

I’m selling off some of my Atari gear as I have too much! Ha ha I really don’t need all these computers, anyway they are all in great condition and I could take some pictures if anyone is interested:

1040 STF with mouse and a power lead - £30

520 STFM boxed with 1 meg upgrade (so basically a 1040) this machine is mint with none of the yellowing and the box is great too with the poly inserts, comes with a mouse and the TV lead and power lead - £30

SM 124: again great condition no yellowing or screen burn - £20

STE with 4 meg of memory: again excellent condition with mouse/TV /power leads - £50

That’s it! I don’t have any software to sell but I could throw in a load of cover disks to anyone who’s interested

I could send this to anyone too but of course there will be postage charges and that’s in the UK only please

So if anyone’s interested let me know via here or PM

    Thanks!
