Well considering the shape that the Vectrex was in that I detailed in this thread (and that was with all of the loose dust blown off) , I wouldn't worry too much about a little "krunk" http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=110088 I saw that thread, good stuff. I guess I gave up trying to find one in the wild like that, and just bit the bullet. Not that I wouldn't buy another one if I happen to come across a good deal!
-
Neat, I'm curious about the history of this unit. How did you come by it? How many were even made?
-
Cool, thanks! Now, as long as it works like it should and isn't covered in krunk (like another recent Ebay purchase) I should be a happy camper.

Ok, so I'm getting my first Vectrex, and not surprisingly I don't think it's coming with any overlays. I have the facilities to make my own, but I can't find any hi-res scans online. Anybody have a link? Or, are there any places that sell repros or vintage overlays for a reasonable price? Thanks.

Yeah, these kinds of threads can be annoying, but I'd like to know for sure. I did a kind of impulse bid on this vectrex a little while ago not thinking I'd win! There was only 3 minutes left and it was only at like $45 (+$35 shipping) so I bid a max of $70. In the end I won with $56.99 (+$35 shipping) for a total of $88.99. Here's the auction. Here are the auction specs: Vectrex Arcade System console with built in control panel, shows some wear. One (1) Controller. 7 game cartridges: Armor attack Space Wars Star Trek- the motion picture Hyperchase Berzerk Solar Quest Scramble I've never even played one before! Here's hoping it in as good of shape as it appears. Oh, does anyone know where I can find scans for the overlays? Even lowres would be ok, but print ready ones would be better! I do graphic design and color printing for a living, so I think I should be able make them pretty nice.

Well, good news and bad news. I went back and bought the stick but didn't look realy close at it until I got it home. Seems that one of the springs inside that center it are broken and I'm also having a hard time getting it to work. I'll have to look into it and see what is going on when I have some time. The really cool news is while I was checking out, there was a Sega Saturn steering wheel on the counter that I hadn't seen there before. The coversation went like this: me: "Did you just get that in? guy: "Yeah, pretty recently" me: "How much were you planning on asking for it?" guy: "You want it, take it." me: "Seriously?" guy: "Yeah, the boss said to just give to anyone that wanted it." me: "SWEET!" Long story short, the wheel that was free works great, while the stick I paid $15 is borked.

Ok, let me clear this up! When I say "sports" games, I'm referring to organized team sports, like football, basketball, ect. especially licensed stuff. I'd bet that a fishing game with the fishing controller would be a blast! I probably wouldn't mind a tennis game, as long as it's not too technical, but more "arcade" like. And FYI, they have BALLROOM DANCING in the Olympics now, so I guess that's a sport too!

Saw one at a local game shop for $14.95. Seems the idea is that the trackball is for 3d shooter games. Worth it? They don't seem to be very common. I know they were made for PC's a few years ago, looks a lot like my old Logitech Wingman Warrior. I'd still be using the Warrior except that Logitech absolutely refuses to make drivers for the old serial port controllers. It was the best Tron Mame stick ever.

Is that thing made by a company in Waco (or perhaps called Waco)? I have a couple of Waco machines that kind of resemble that device. They're kind of neat old games - very interesting stuff going on inside. As a matter of fact it is! It is neat, but really LOUD. -
Still on the lookout. Man, these games are IMPOSSIBLE to find in the wild! When I do find them, they are all sports games that are scratched to hell, no manual and $9.99 each!

Troubleshooting an Intellivision I just got.

I've become a big fan of these Assuming you have a system with an RCA style jack (7800, CV, ect.) with this you can use any standard coax "cable tv" cable you have. Those usually have decent sheilding and are cheap and plentiful. RadioShack Gold Series "F" Connector to Phono Plug Adapter -
This gave me a great idea! Convert an X-arcade joystick to work on the 2600/7800! I doubt you could use the serial connector on the back as it's some sort of ps2 keyboard encoder, but I should be able to wire up a couple of DB9 connectors to the back and just use extention cables. I'd imagine this would be very similer to the Radica Space Invaders mod that was popular a while back. Hmmmm...... Imagine Robotron on one of these.... Yes, I realize that this would be overkill if you were just going to use it on a 7800, but I already have one so..... X-arcades use subpar arcade components, but it would certainly be better than using 7800 sticks. Care to define "subpar"? I've used mine for years with Mame and highly recommend it, especially for the price. I admit that they are basically clones of Happs components, but try finding a comparable layout with Happs for anywhere near $129.99. Hell, those Jamma sticks are $86-96 shipped for a 6 button controller, and it comes in a tiny, crappy, plastic project case.

Sure, I picked up a cherry SNES with a bunch of decent games, all manuals, for only $35.00 a couple of weeks ago! I almost pulled the trigger on a PS2 slim with a pile of games for $125, but I've got way more than I can find time to play now. -

Honestly, you are probably looking at several months before they will be available again. The initial run was only around 100 carts, and those were sold out AFAIK. -

I just did the shoe rack thing a week or so ago and it works great! I store the idea from pmpddytim from a thread earlier this year. Here's the rest of the system while I'm at it. -

I'm sure the fact that it's coming from Venezuela isn't helping either. Shipping takes 20-30 working days? WTF? It looks like they must have a case of them among others.... -

I think thats a damn fine price for what you found.. I would've gladly payed it myself.. however.. with electronics, I like to call it the "new radio" smell My wife thinks I'm weird, but I LOVE that smell! I remember a few years ago when I got an entirely new home theater system. Plasma TV, new DVD player, tuner, speakers, everything brand new. I was in heaven! -
Can anyone tell me what this cable is for exactly? I wonder if it lets you use Genny controllers as 2 button 7800 controllers?
-
I think I have 5 4-switch woodies right now, none of them hooked up, not even sure if they all work at the moment! (I'm using a 7800 these days for 2600 gaming.)
