  1. I'm fine with games now, but I really wish somebody could create an ATR filled with all the good demos that work in NTSC. 80% of the demos I've tried are PAL only.

There is also the issue of PAL only games. There are some of the PAL releases that were included because they seemed to run okay in NTSC. There were other PAL games that either would not run or the screen bounced continually that were left out.

I've found a few games in your ATRs that didn't work at all. Airwolf is one. (can't remember the others at the moment)

  2. What the hell? You're screwing the resale value of my existing SDrive NUXX! I was planning on waiting until some desperate freak pays me $1000 for mine. Now they can just buy a new one from you. In art, if the artist is dead, the paintings go up. You're like the artist who comes back to life and says, "Psyche! I wasn't dead, really - just pretending." ;)

No, seriously, make lots more. Everybody should get the chance to buy this awesome SDrive. :)

  3. Thanks again, ThumpNugget.

Viewing these on my matte LCD brings back memories of the early 80's when I used to read BYTE, OMNI and Scientific American on microfiche at the library. It's almost identical - only in colour.

Now if somebody could just scan those early OMNI magazines...

  4. I'm going to post this then check to see if it's enough...

    post-19705-0-52512800-1302530336_thumb.jpg

    ;)

Ach! Ug... GUCK!! That's the sound of me choking on my own bile. (...surprisingly similar to Klingon)

Hey, wait a minute - you didn't beat me. Ah... now I can relax and act smug and superior. (while I wallow in my own crapulence)

  5. Wait... where is Lone Raider??

    He's farming Mr.Amiga's goats :ponder:

You're obviously no goat expert. You don't "farm" goats. You just put them in a fenced field and hope they don't break out and eat your children.

Actually, I don't have goats yet. I'm planning on getting a couple black ones and calling them "The Lads", Zeus and Apollo, like on Magnum P.I.

I'll say, "Zeus, Apollo - patrol!" (...but in this case, "patrol" will mean "wander around randomly and eat vegetation")

  6. What, that was Mr.Amiga500 :?: :!:

I just watched Minority Report and thought I saw someone there who had a squirrel and a moustache or was it replacement eyes :ponder: :D

It's funny that you mention replacement eyes. I created a "franken-photo" of myself a couple years ago - complete with replacement eyes.

(eyes are still mine, but pasted from another photo)

  7. Has anyone noticed any differences between the kjmann one and the fandal one? Steve mentioned a problem with his mouse on the kjmann one. Anything else? I don't really notice any differences, and I only want to keep the better of the two.

The Kjmann one has a fancier font for the scores. (presumably so that when you look at your pathetic score, the fanciness of the font eases the pain)

Oh, and one more thing, it seems that if you press start in the middle of a game, you restart, but with one less life. Interesting.

I hate that "feature" - or is it a bug? Who knows? (...what am I talking about? This is Centipede - there are bugs all over the place.)

  8. Hey! What...when...how...who...... when the hell did you get 13380? I see no evidence to support your insane assumption that you got such a score.

I think there's some controversy here.

Edit: OK, I found your screenshot. It was posted on April 1, so I assumed it was bogus. (...though I still think there's some controversy... (said with narrowed eyes, suspiciously looking back and forth))

  9. A bit off topic, OTTO is the name of the automatic pilot in the classic movie Airplane! :)

Classic film, didn't they use some Atari sound effects in Airplane :?: I seem to remember a thread about this somwhere :ponder:

Yeah, that was my thread here. I also made a comment about Airplane in the Blue Max competition when I said:

"We're going to have to come in pretty low to land this thing."

    "Is that difficult, Ted?"

"Sure, it's difficult. Coming in low is part of every textbook approach. It's just something you have to do... when you land."

  10. April fools PHOTOSHOP!!!!!!!! (or at least it better be or I'm going to have to spend six hours tomorrow getting back to number 1)

What gave it away? Was it the fact that there were way too many robots, that I was trapped inside a box, or that there were two Ottos? (or maybe it was because I now have a fake moustache and a squirrel popping up over my shoulder? :D)

I originally had another "screenshot" that showed robots leaving the screen, but I thought that wasn't subtle enough. (see below)

  11. Um... excuse me... (ahem)... I don't want to be a bother, but could you move my vote from Ballblazer to Fractalus? That should tie it up with Centipede. And then, can you move my other vote from Aquatron to Fractalus? That should give Fractalus 6 votes vs the 5 for Centipede.

Thank you for your attention. :D

  12. To quickly change the subject, does anybody have any Berzerk memories?

The first time I ever saw a video game was in 1980. The local bowling alley had just replaced three pinball machines with new arcade video games. The games they got were Asteroids, Centipede and Berzerk. Never having seen a video game in my life, I was totally amazed. I loved the glowing super-crisp vector graphics of Asteroids and the trackball, laser sounds and colour changes of Centipede - but it was Berzerk that blew me away with the robotic voices. I always liked the Battlestar Galactica cylon robots (hated the show, but loved the robots and voices - are they robots? who cares. they were robots to me) and this game was like fighting them in real life.

So, Asteroids started my lifelong love of glowing vector graphics, Centipede started my lifelong love of trackballs, and Berzerk started my lifelong hatred of smiley faces.

(as well as getting me obsessed with 8-bit computers, game programming, mazes, and killing robots in whatever way possible)

  13. Four guys in the box? Sounds like a name for an adult movie. :ponder:

You made me shudder and cringe at the same time. Now I need some kind of brain cleanser. Please never again associate Berzerk with gay porn.

(damn you - you just made me think of a high, lisping voice saying, "Sthop the intruder, you big hairy man you.")
