HSC8 Bonus Round 10: Discussion
Mr.Amiga500 replied to therealbountybob's topic in 8-bit High Score Club
I don't like this "theme" stuff. Can't we just compete in one game at a time? Multiple game competition is a confusing mess. I'd like to play Seafox, but the rest don't interest me at all. -
It's just not fair! I had three lives left at 10,180 - then I died 3 times quickly and ended up with... 10,280! Damn those white robots!
-
Don't put that damn smiley in there! It reminds me too much of Otto. (painful memories indeed) Your old pal just wanted to say Hi: Why you....! (shakes fist in air) I knew there was a reason I hated smiley faces. So Briky is Otto's bastard inbred cousin. Otto bounces around in mazes and Briky makes walls. Oh how I hate them both. I don't know how in hell orpheuswaking and Deteacher got such high scores. Once I reach the impossibly fast white robots around 8-9000, I lose my extra lives. Then, if I have miraculous good luck, I can get the 10,000 bonus life - but then quickly die after that. How can anybody get double that? Now I wish orpheuswaking had stuck with The Lone Ranger.

4th?? I'm a lousy stinking 4th?? That's not right. I'm too good for that. It's not my destiny to be 4th! (...3rd maybe) Don't put that damn smiley in there! It reminds me too much of Otto. (painful memories indeed)

Try this version:
-
I don't think so. I've got both the cartridge and XEX on SDrive. The both seem the same to me.
-
I thought "wanker" was just a casual insult. OK, you poxy git.
-
My first attempt: 9040 I killed myself twice by carelessly walking into walls while going around corners. (Chicken. Walk like a.. robot.)
-
Is the PAL version slower than NTSC? I don't want to lose because the PAL players (wankers) are fighting robots that are moving slower than three-toed sloths stuck in molasses. Chicken. Fight like a... NTSC robot! By the way, there's a bug in the game. If Otto is chasing you and you move into the left doorway - without exiting - he will think you're on the other side and go bouncing to the right. I once spent 10 minutes just psyching out Otto. (the bastard deserved it)
-
Chicken. Fight like a ... robot. Only one lone vote for the Lone Raider. How appropriate. I better start practising my robot-like fighting techniques. The humanoid must not escape!

We had already covered this ground, over a month ago. I must have missed a page. That's the problem with a 21-page thread.

Yes, that would be the ultimate for sure. I've got a Trak-ball, but only ever use it for Centipede. It would be great to get more use out of the Trak-ball and a useable GUI would be perfect. It should work on Joystick 2 port, keeping joystick on Joystick 1 port - just like on Amiga. (where I also use a trackball)
-
I think there's risk of starting a side conversation about not getting into the side conversation. To get back on subject, I think this GUI thing is kick-ass awesome!
-
Go... Aquatron! (picturing Ralph Wiggum saying, "Go banana.") If Aquatron doesn't win and Berzerk needs one vote to win, I want to transfer my vote to Berzerk. (...just like I do for municipal elections)

show me your rarest 8bit cartridge!
Mr.Amiga500 replied to qix_maniac's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Is that a doom cartridge???? Yeah... that one's pretty rare. -

Mine isn't too rare. -
I prefer the appearance of the 800XL too. The 600XL looks a bit stunted. As for the keyboard comfort difference, there were at least 5 different versions of the 800XL keyboard. The 800XL you used probably had the good "type 1" keyboard, while the 600XL had a crappier version. I prefer the feel of the "type 1", but the keycaps feel a bit cheap. The "type 4" has thicker keycaps and is heavier (giving the 800XL a nicer, heavy, balanced feel), but can be a bit stiff to type on. Even among the types, there is variation. I've got one "type 4" that is smooth and doesn't jam, and another that constantly jams.

I get Six Million Dollars for this, right?
Mr.Amiga500 replied to RAM's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Awesome. I just dropped everything to rush over and put this on my 800XL. It's great, but needs some theme music and a voice sample saying, "We can rebuild him." I used to have a Six Million Dollar Man lunch box. My sister had Wonder Woman. Thankfully, we never had mix-ups. A guy carrying a Wonder Woman lunch box would probably get the shit beat out of him after school. If you're handling requests, can you next do Space 1999? -
Yeah, that was me. Sorry about that... but I did say you were a "nice generous guy", and I stand by my original assessment. If I can get you to add "good looking" we will be all set That might be a bit difficult. You look like a demented pink frilly thing - as if rags from an old style car wash went berserk and started happily eating people. I don't know about you people in Boise, Idaho, but here in Canada we don't call that sort of thing "good looking".

Ach! Once again, I'm the only one voting for the only game in the list I feel like playing. I'm not having a merry Christmas, not merry at all. Bah humbug! "You there! What day is this?" "Why, it's Christmas day, sir... and we're playing Wizard of Wor." "Damn you! Damn you to hell!" (shakes fist)

HSC7 Game 20: Pole Position
Mr.Amiga500 replied to therealbountybob's topic in 8-bit High Score Club
Performance is still individual but there's team points and individual points as I understand it. So we'll let you do the hardest races as you are good at this game. Let me know if you are in and suggest some team name. Obviously, a good team name would be "The Road Warriors"... but I'm not joining the team. -
HSC7 Game 20: Pole Position
Mr.Amiga500 replied to therealbountybob's topic in 8-bit High Score Club
TEAMS?? It's bad enough having to be a "team player" to get a job these days. Why is everything "teams" now? I'm not a "team player". I refuse to be a "team player"! You know how The Road Warrior got killed?? He went from being a loner to joining a team of settlers. He would have been perfectly fine if he stayed "a shell of a man", roaming the desert in his V8 Interceptor with his mangy dog. Yeah, that's right. Teamwork killed him! There's no way I'm getting myself killed playing "Team Pole Position"!
