Now here's one that came out of the woodwork. I saw a Ford Festiva in a driveway today.. Interesting little subcompact car from the late 80's-mid 90's in the U.S.. Anyone remember this one?

Hm yes, I read a note on Wikipedia about that Fiesta generation I was sold in America around 1976-80 but on the same time it mentioned it was not officially released until 2008. Over here we of course had Fiesta generation II and onwards side by side with the larger Escort and all the other, even bigger Ford models in the next decade. Perhaps the size difference was not signifcant to have both Fiesta and Escort on your market.
(Then again, we also had both VW Polo and VW Golf on the market in Europe, which I'm not sure if you had at all)

Not officially released? That's weird. Ford sold the Fiestas here in late 70's to early 80's, and it was called the Fiesta. Fiesta name was resurrected in 2008. Then we had the Fiesta and the slightly larger Focus on the market until 2019. Ford dropped the Focus for 2020, but we still have the Fiesta.

Yeah, perhaps it is my reading skills that a bit lacking:
QuoteIn 2008, the sixth generation Fiesta (Mark VI) was introduced worldwide, making it the first Fiesta model to be sold in North America since the Fiesta Mark I was discontinued at the end of 1980.
