      @bluejay: keeping a 505 Turbo running in this day and age, in North America, takes an enthusiast.  Believe me, our 505 is far from being a beauty queen, but we still drive it regularly.

      @bluejay: given that Peugeot left North America in 1991, not many people who aren't enthusiasts are still driving them in this part of the world.

      My mom got me a set when I was in high school, but the payments were way too much so we had to send them back. I told her it was cheaper to get a PC from Radio Shack and a Growler's CD-ROM.

  4. Now here's one that came out of the woodwork. I saw a Ford Festiva in a driveway today.. Interesting little subcompact car from the late 80's-mid 90's in the U.S.. Anyone remember this one?Image result for ford festiva

      Oh remembering more, we always called his Festiva a Fiesta, ...He'd tell us that was wrong so we'd do it more haha...We were young bucks being stupid,...I still remember once, for some reason, he told us to get in and then drove to these dirt roads with hills and ice and he jumped the car, flattening the little back tire (which is tiny),...We went to the Mini Mart and bought some Fix-A-Flat and pumped it back up (Good as new! haha).

      When it comes to car models, they tend to get bigger for each generation. Most likely the Fiesta of the 21th century is as large or larger than the Escort in the 80's. The same goes for Volkswagen. The Golf used to be a small car in the size of an Escort, but nowadays can be had in full station wagon size. To be honest I'm not updated on what the smallest Fords and VWs of today are called, but for sure the popular model names have been retained and grown along with its owners. It is just like anyone who got an Escort or Golf as a single 20 year old, would want a family sized Focus or Golf as a 50 year old.

      I used to always want a Porsche 928 too!  Once I actually called on one for sale, but it had already been sold.

    4. jd_1138

      jd_1138

      My brother was actually gifted a 928 by a whack job ex-GF of his. They rented a nice house in 2018 off a retired dentist, and there was a Porsche 928 in the garage that the guy had bought new in 1984. But it had horrible, gross lower body cladding and fender flares that totally ruined the looks of the iconic 928. The dentist told them he'd have it out ASAP, and my brother said "cool car" to him.

      So his GF made a deal to buy it off landlord in secret to give to my brother. I think for $4k or something, but my brother had to tell her that he actually hates it. I think they sold it for $4k or a little over to recoup the money.

      @fdurso224: I really doubt that the 127 is still on the road, unfortunately.  From what I recall, it rusted out about 3 years after it was given to me, but mechanically it was very sound even at the end.

      The way that I ended up with the car was that it had been my mother's car, but she ended up buying a brand-new Honda Civic.  The 127 had had a new clutch about six months before she bought the Honda, and the local Honda dealer was going to give her less on trade for the 127 than the clutch replacement had cost.  My father decided that I needed something to learn to drive on, so it was passed on to me.  Got really good with it in the fields :)

      In any event, it's a car I definitely have a soft spot for - and ditto Yugos as relatives.

    3. x=usr(1536)

      x=usr(1536)

      @fdurso224: BTW, I should mention that we had that 127 in Ireland.  The only one I've ever seen in the US was registered as a 128 and was in far better (body) shape than mine ever was.

      @x=usr(1536) Plus, the right motor oil is crucial as well. I always use Castrol GTX in my Yugo ever since I purchased it. This commercial is why I felt Castrol was perfect for my car from that era.

    3. x=usr(1536)

      x=usr(1536)

      @fdurso224: thanks! FWIW, I'm also on the Castrol GTX bandwagon - with the exception of the diesels, I run it in pretty much everything we've had.

      My tastes typically run to French, British, and Italian - but anything interesting is game :)

      @fdurso224: I've met him as well - he had one of the pre-electrification Okas at the Fry's Electronics in Burbank, CA on a day I happened to go over there; this was likely back in the late '90s.  Spotted it as I was parking and had an, "it can't be..." moment.  Walked over and was checking it out as he came back and got to talking with him.

      Tell me about your Yugo - I happen to have a certain sneaking fondness for certain ex-Soviet and -Eastern Bloc cars, and have owned a few.  Really loved my 1978 (IIRC) Skoda S110R and the Niva was a fantastic machine.  Wasn't as fond of the Fiat 126P, though - that one went away pretty quickly.

      I was just out of college, not even a year et.  When I graduated and got my job, I bought a Pentium 1 PC with a big, beautiful and massive 17" monitor.  It came with 3.1, but if I remember correctly - and I could be wrong - it came with a free upgrade to Win 95.  Either that, or I bought 95 shortly thereafter, because I remember the apartment I was in when I got that.  For some reason I remember my neighbor, a nice, old lady, had received the package and I had to knock on her door to get it.  I liked 95, for the most part.

In order to comply with efficiency standards outlined in the Energy Independence and Security Act, which was signed into law by President George Bush in 2007, it will be illegal to manufacture or import them after Dec. 31. But retailers will still be able to sell off any remaining stock.

      They may have good games, but they don't seem to be willing to put them on anything but their own systems. Even their foray into the tablet market is just licensing their IPs to other developers. I could easily see the games being on par with quality of Hotel Mario if their not lucky.

      Nah they value their IP too much to do that, unlike Sega.
