Welp, it was fun while it lasted. SNK announced it will end production of the NeoGeo Mini and NeoGeo International. Official Tweet from SNK Japan is on Twitter and on the Neo-Geo thread for those who like to see it. https://atariage.com/forums/topic/223548-the-official-neo-geo-thread/page/782/#comments

Here's some interesting classic tech that I found off the Internet. You heard about VHS and LaserDiscs right? Have you ever heard about VHD? It stands for Video High Density and was known available in Japan by JVC. Interesting to say the least.

Whoa! So it's true that they all come out on the warm days. I saw a Colt Vista. Remember those?

Maybe not so much the wagon variant...But in the 80's I worked with a girl who drove a Dodge Colt. I remember it well, probably because when we'd talk at work, she always referred to it as her little "sports car". My first car ever was an '71 Opel GT, which I thought was more of a sports car (at least as far as looks go

MAD Magazine to Cease Publication https://comicbook.com/dc/2019/07/04/mad-magazine-to-cease-publication/

This is the first I have heard of this. I thought maybe it was a joke, but then I checked. I guess it's true. Been a subscriber for a long, long time. It's too bad. About the only positive result - if there is anything positive here - is that I am running out of room to store all my various magazines and such. Did anyone ever type in the Mad computer program from - after checking, looks like issue #258, October 1985? There were versions for Atari, Apple, and Commodore. I forget why, but I remember writing the editors about that program, I had some sort of question. The reply came in my SASE - SASE, remember those? - many months after the fact, if I recall. A quick note at the bottom of my letter. I have it around somewhere. Anyway, sad news...but I learned that Marvel was going to revive Crazy this fall for a one-issue only event (doubt it will be the same). I loved Crazy, too, as well as Cracked. Oh well...

Actually, I checked some more info, and I guess there is an update to the story. And this is odd (yet maybe welcome, for me at least). Supposedly there will still be issues but they will have old content. If they start reprinting old movie/TV satires, that would be very cool. I guess the plan is to cease investment in new content. I really don't know, maybe there will be more clarification. However, this sounds to me like the first step toward a total cessation of publication. I'll have to go seek out any comment on this from a Mad artist's blog, Tom Richmond in this case...(plus I assume there will be more news on this coming up at Comic Con in San Diego)...

Lee Iacocca, who helped create the Ford Mustang and then rescued Chrysler in the 1980s, has died at 94. https://www.cnn.com/2019/07/02/business/lee-iacocca-obituary/index.html

RIP. He was a great innovator. He wanted to do a FWD platform for small/midsize cars and a minivan back in the mid 1970's when he was at Ford, but HF II shot him down -- "small cars -- small profit!" But then of course, the gas crisis and competition from imports quickly arrived, so it was another 10 years before Ford had a FWD car and a minivan. Meanwhile Iacocca turned around Chrysler and created a huge impact on the auto industry with the K-Cars, minivans, downsized cars like the LeBaron, etc..

I used a public payphone today because I forgot my smartphone at home. I remember times growing up in NYC that you would see waiting lines for them and occasional arguments on who was next to make a call. Now you're lucky to find one and seeing anyone near it.

Did an oil change on my Ford Explorer today. I always use Castrol GTX. Best oil to use (IMO) Now, for those that want an excellent oil filter, use Purolator BOSS. It's a topoftheline filter from the company and offers amazing results. It my cost close to $20 dollars, but well worth it.
-
Biggest OCOD issue I've had was bad anti drainback valves causing dry starts with audible tapping. Other factors are the sheer amount of filters they produce. The more you make, the higher the odds of a bad one. Purolator had an issue with tears inside the media a few years ago, yet the MC and Bosch versions made in same places did not.

-
Zylon nailed it. I've had to use a variety of filters over the years depending on what's available for <insert vehicle here>, but will avoid Fram like the plague. After one bad incident (the can sheared away from the base while being screwed on), that plus the drainback stories are enough to keep me away.

Celebrating 20 years on owning my Yugo today. Gave it a tuneup, oil change, new registration sticker, and had its yearly state inspection all today. Now off to get a hand car wash/vacuum.
