Welp, it was fun while it lasted. SNK announced it will end production of the NeoGeo Mini and NeoGeo International. Official Tweet from SNK Japan is on Twitter and on the Neo-Geo thread for those who like to see it. https://atariage.com/forums/topic/223548-the-official-neo-geo-thread/page/782/#comments

I can see the humor in this, but it misses the point of what that artwork was meant to do. Those of us who were kids at the time (and who were not literal-minded idiots) understood perfectly well that the games wouldn't look just like the box art. The artwork gave us a mental picture that we could superimpose onto the game as we were playing it, so it was actually very successful in "priming the pump" and engaging our imaginations.

For me, there were a couple of really big issues:
1. There wasn't a killer app for the game pad out of the gate. Love or hate the Wii, Wii Sports was a pretty great way to show off that controller that Wii U didn't have.
2. Where were the Nintendo franchises for the first 18 months? There still isn't a new Zelda game, a new Metroid game, a new Starfox game etc. That's Nintendo's strength and they launched without the titles.
I'll thro...

Ever go shopping in a Salvation Army? Really interesting goodies in there.

It is... but without the online store to take up all of the good stuff... you can find boxed PC games and I've even found NES games, a model 2 Genesis (didn't buy it as it looked pretty dirty). Sometimes even old computers... I once found a 386 laptop there but it needed too much work and wasn't worth paying $50 for.

I used to go to a half dozen thrift stores near me every weekend.. Had quite a few good scores over the years. A SNES with 15 good games, a boxed 1050 disk drive, a Commodore SX64, a few NESes, a few Atari 8-bit carts, lots of 2600 stuff. It all seemed to dry up about 5-10 years ago when people realized this 'junk' was actually worth something in eBay land.

Whoa. All coming out on the warm days. I saw a Chevy Citation this afternoon. Anybody remember this car? I haven't seen one in over 20 years.
-
yep. GM at its best. Those were the first car be made at the GM plant when the OKC plant first opened. They paid uneducated high school dropouts $17 (1976 dollars) to slap left turn signals on the bodies. Lots of people 'milked' those jobs till retirement. Now the plant is closed and part of Tinker AFB. Way to go unions! Those guys make more that college-educated teachers (to this day).

A Malaysian Airlines plane carrying was reportedly shot down and crashed near the Ukrainian-Russian border Thursday, killing all 295 people on board, an advisor to Ukraine's interior ministry said.Flight MH17 was en route to Kuala Lumpur from Amsterdam. A spokesman for Malaysian Airlines confirmed "an incident" involving one of its flights and is expected to release a statement shortly. Its like this airline doesn't have enough troubles as it is!
