  1. I just played v0.23 a bit and the AI is really challenging now. An old bug returned - the game speed doesn't reset after game over. When you start a new game it starts at high speed.
  2. Good point. I always set smartbranching on but it's probably better to not use it and check if goto is needed by hand.
  3. You can try using smartbranching and see if it helps with saving bytes for "if - then - goto" statements: http://www.randomterrain.com/atari-2600-memories-batari-basic-commands.html#smartbranching
  4. I'm just going through the list and realised that i was wrong - many of the ROMs are not available for download. EDIT: Or are there any ROMs available at the Atari 2600 Homebrew FB group? Can't check as i don't use Facebook.
  5. Found 2 more homebrews fom 2018 at itch.io: Kelly Kangaroo Turtle Bay
  6. Thanks for the list!. The ROMs for most of these are available with just a few exceptions. Maybe you should compile and post a ROM pack with all available final/latest versions in January to make voting easier.
  7. Nice Idea! Will be interesting to see a list as i missed most homebrews released in the first half of 2018.
  8. I'm too lazy to dig through the forums but i found a few more NTSC -> PAL conversions in my ROMs folder: Bloody Human Freeway (PAL Conversion).bin Cabbage Patch Kids - Adventures in the Park (PAL Conversion).bin Hard Head (PAL Conversion).bin Ixion (PAL Conversion).bin Krull (PAL Conversion).bin Q-bert's Qubes (PAL Conversion) (F8 Bankswitching).bin Q-bert's Qubes (PAL60 Conversion) (F8 Bankswitching).bin Quadrun (PAL Conversion).bin Shootin' Arcade (PAL Conversion).bin Unknown Activision Game #1 (PAL Conversion).bin Venetian Blinds Demo (PAL Conversion).bin
  9. I played v0.20 in Stella and haven't encountered any bugs. The AI is much better now, you can actually beat the computer player which makes the single player mode fun too. My best score so far is 670 but i think i can do better if i keep playing. Overall the game seems good as it is IMO. You just have to test it thoroughly on real hardware before releasing it on cart.
  10. I think a blocky playfield titlescreen like the example below would fit in very well with the early Atari look, looks like it was made with the video graffiti mode of Surround.
  11. That's a great find. Thanks for sharing!
  12. Yep, the trees keep scrolling when you reach 362 points so that's fixed. It's good that you can start the game with fire now, this should be a standard for all games IMO. The speed progression is nice and the max speed is pretty fast. I like that the game gets frantic fast enough to stay challenging and keep players going. The climbing sound volume is also nice now, gives a good audio cue of the game speed without being annoying. Apparently it's not possible to have no more than 3 branches in a row but it's not that important as it doesn't affect the gameplay negatively. With only 3 branches in a row it might even become too easy. You're aware of the max speed not resetting after game over and the glitch with the score minikernel so these 2 bugs still need to be squished.
  13. I just played version 0.18b and found a bug: Every time you reach 362 points the scrolling stops - you can still move your monkey but the trees don't scroll anymore.
  14. I usually go for the blue hearts first to increase the score multiplier and mostly concentrate on getting "Extra". Hadn't tried to get "Special" yet... So that's the way to rack up points. Everyone should read the manual before playing, a scanned copy can be found here: https://www.atari2600homebrew.com/ladybug.html
  15. I'm currently playing Yomawari: Night Alone (PC) and it's driving me insane. But i can't stop playing... :D

  16. Great scores guys! I doubt i'll ever break 100k but i'm slowly getting better: 72,450
  17. The only homebrew cart i own is Alien Greed II. I want to get a good refurbished 2600 with video-mod to play on modernd TVs in the near future. Once i have that i'll buy some more homebrews, at least the ~20 i really wanna own on cart.
  18. For starting the game with the fire button just add a delay - ignoring fire button presses for ~3 seconds or so after game over should do the trick. Check the batari Basic forum for examples, this was used in a few bB games IIRC. Good point about the moving sound, i find it too noisy as it is but making it quieter should help. If you have enough variables and rom-space left maybe make the winning player flash or make him bigger to give a visual cue who won the round at the end.
  19. I found a ROM with the titlescreen in my homebrews folder, maybe you posted that version in your blog? Robot City (2002) (Thomas Jentzsch) (WIP).bin
  20. I just played Monkey King a bit, nice little game! You made some good progress since the version that was shown at ZeroPage Homebrew. I have a few suggestions: - Let players start the game with the fire button, that's always better than having to press the reset switch. - Remove the sound when the score increases. That constant beeping is quite annoying especially when the game gets faster IMO. That would also make it easier to concentrate on the coconut sound. Or just play a sound for each 100 points reached. - Maybe don't allow more than 3 branches in a row, having 4 or 5 in a row looks a bit weird and not much like a tree. Looking forward to see how this one comes along.
  21. Great choice! It's been a while since i played Lady Bug, looking forward to play it the whole month. My first lame entry: 23,100
  22. You're right but i think these hacks are worth a look although they might not be interesting enough for playing on the show.
