I asked the same question a few months ago, and you pretty much can, so long as you create the right board and make sure the programming's solid. BTW, the Z80 isn't a sound chip, it's a CPU. Thanks for the correction. I misunderstood the way in which it was put to use in the Megadrive.

Yellow Dragon. The last hope of mankind. + the royal couple: Ms. Pac-Man & Donkey Kong.

Screen Mockup: Pick Axe Pete - attempt in bBasic
A Sprite replied to PacManPlus's topic in Homebrew Discussion
Apologies...since the Atari and the O2 displays are so different from each other, maybe you could change the graphics to be larger and more detailed? That way, less objects are shown at a time, but what is shown, plays to the strengths of the system. -
Is it just limited to Pokey, or could someone make a homebrew with a Z80, SID, etc?

Best to buy them now. Since CDs aren't as durable as cartridge, and the market was undervalued, finding the best PSone games in good condition will eventually become an expensive hobby...

What was the first game you ever beat? Was the ending worth the trip? Do you still own it? Do you still play it? Would you recommend we play it too? Just curious...

I suck, so I'm qualified to answer that. It is too easy. Despite it's claims that the difficulty was set to Insane, and the speed at 200%, I was able to take a tour through the first 10 levels without being in any real danger. The level names started becoming threats: "You will die!" "I will crush you!" And I actually started feeling sorry for the computer. Maybe it needed a handicap? Should I close my eyes? Play it one handed? It was hard to concentrate, what with all the screams in the background as the last survivors of humanity were killed off. That's when it occurred to me - I was supposed to be saving humanity, because they were worth bonus points. The game murdered me. Destroying the robots is easy, even on the hardest setting, but if you race them to the survivors, the game achieves a twitch beauty that's the equal of it's inspiration. Worth noting is the advanced human AI, that allows this woman to decide saving me isn't worth the bonus points. The actual playing field.

10 games 11 consoles..... if you're bored.

Intellivision 1. Thunder Castle - Imagine a Pac-Man game where you shank the ghosts to advance. Add complications. 2. Shark! Shark! - Eat the weak. 3. Dracula - see above. 4. Diner - no, this time the food tries to kill you. Crush their rebellion! Eat their children! 5. Utopia - Aka funding a civil war while building your empire... 6. Atlantis - maybe this one has a happy ending. 7. Demon Attack - If you think about it, the leader of the demons is probably Satan. 8. Star Strike - Mattel's controversial ad promised the destruction of the Earth, sparking protests. 9. The M Network Sports games /or the D&D games - I refuse to be held responsible for any more games played on this evil system. You know which complicated numbers racket you prefer. Enjoy. 10. Beauty and the Beast - this one proves that no matter how bad the odds are, true love will always win out in the end. Unless a player sucks at the game. Intellivision - more evil than you realize.... -

It's amazing how much you can get done by simply pretending to be busy... NES - 1. Super Mario Bros 3 - Because, sometimes the hype is not a lie. 2. Ninja Gaiden or Castlevania 3 - both have killed more lemmings than Walt Disney, but you only need one jump and slash at a time... 3. Gradius II - get used to the idea that many of the best games never left Japan. 4. Recca - because you really want to see what you NES can do, and don't mind that nobody needs that many sprites on the screen, at that speed, unless they're trying to win a bet. 5. Super Contra - ><V^ A, B good luck! Okay, now that the ADD crowd's gone, and gotten themselves chewed up by the meat grinder, the rest of you can go play Maniac Mansion. 6. Crystalis - This one's better than a lot of recent attempts to make an action RPG... 7. Ultima IV - Remember how Knights of the Old Republic (X-Box) made morality an exciting choice? Slackers. 8. Lunar Pool - puzzle game representation. Tetris should be on the gameboy list. Accept no substitutes. 9. Punch-Out - If you have to ask, play it now. 10. Metroid - Girl power. -
Or, if you don't mind the change in theme, and early NES graphics, go for Gun.smoke. Once you get used to the controls ( B fires left, A fires right, and A+B to fire straight ahead ), it's a solid Capcom shooter, and a huge improvement on Commando. New to the game engine is trading points for guns, ammo, and horses - you finally have a reason to care about shooting every little foot soldier.

How's the newest Intellivision plug and play
A Sprite replied to Atarifever's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
I'd go for it. I've never played the other Intellivision TV Games, but the good reviews from US News and World Report and USA Today would have me giving it a shot if they sold here. -
Wrong Way! for ColecoVision - very early WIP
A Sprite replied to 5-11under's topic in Homebrew Discussion
How about multiple ways of scoring? Points could be awarded for near misses, plus bonus multiplied by how many near misses you can get in a row (potentially subtracted for early wipe outs? ) so that there's strategy and risk involved, instead of only basic twitch play. -
You're insane. I mean compared to insane people. Edmund Hillary had Everest, Captain Ahab had his Freudian whale, and you have the Atari 2600 again acting 10 years younger. As far as the scrolling goes, it's really better to base it on your stage design. Mario's like chess, every square is there for a reason, so you need to be in perfect control at all times, even if seems kinda sedate by comparison. Sonic's world design is more open, a hybrid of Mario and Enduro. The twists and turns keep it from feeling too empty but here's a longer time passing between enemies and jumps unless you build up a lot of speed - if you make a mistake, it's less likely to kill you. The camera can move a little freer.

How's this? Still looking for font for the title..

You need to edit that...you need a cart for the border....(steal it from one of mine.. Thanks, but my pic is just an ad for the cart. I'll need to find another design for the cartridge itself. Thank you.

Thanks for the thought, but spiffy_one is the man we owe for the pic and the idea. My contribution to this thread is still in the works...

Recommend some Genesis Games.... quick action stuff.

Alien Soldier - Arcade style shooting, almost entirely over the top boss battles. The SNES couldn't do this game - the picture above is me vs. a mid boss on the first level. I'd show you some of the better scenes, but this is where I die... -

More levels, enhanced graphics and an optional speed boost, Genesis Ms. Pac-Man is the next best thing to a homebrew... -
