    Thesauruses sure have changed. I looked up synonyms for the word 'great' and one of the entries was 'barely adequate.'

      Reasonable. Consider the word 'fine'. Used to mean all OK, but now is pretty much a warning sign that things are NOT 'fine'. Often one says 'great' when things don't quite go as expected, or something fails. Language changes... get used to it :)
