  1. It's always shocking to me when people say HYTH instead of HYTE when pronouncing the word 'height.' They never end words such as fight, might, night, or sight with the TH sound, so why does the word 'height' give them such a problem? I blame that horrid word 'width.' It's a bad influence, like that nasty cousin you had when you were a kid that smoked and stirred Kool-Aid with his or her arm.

      As my mother tongue is German: explain, why though, through, thorough, and tough are pronounced as they are. You simply cannot guess the correct pronunciation of English words by looking at them.

      I was talking about native speakers, but either way, I can't remember one word that ends in ht that we pronounce as th, though.
