The drain next to our apartment at the bottom of a what looks like a huge bowl made of dirt was fine at 6 A.M. I checked again at around 8:30 and the "bowl" was about a fourth of the way full. I put some garbage bags on my legs and put a latex-free glove on, then felt around for the grate and unclogged it. Now I'm going out every half hour to clean off the grate. Maybe I can turn this into a video game.

Yes, the last time we had heavy rain when I was stuck in bed after a leg operation, the big bowl filled and water was overflowing the sidewalk and was almost to our back patio. If it would have rained more, we would have had water in the apartment. There was a lot more rain these past few days, so we would have had water in the apartment for sure this time.

It took many days for our little "pond" to empty last time. After I was allowed to move around again, I grabbed a shovel and went grate hunting. After digging for a while, I finally found the grate and made it better than it was when I moved in. Before, all you could see was a little rectangular grate. After I dug it out, the rectangle was larger and actually had sides that went down to the base of it. Even with all of that extra grate area showing, it doesn't take long to clog up...
