I've been watching "The Expanse" on Amazon and the actors playing the Belters all seem to speak the same way as if they had an excellent accent coach, but David Strathairn sounds like he spent 3 minutes trying to learn the accent and gave up. If you Google it, everybody is praising him. I haven't found one "his accent sucks" comment so far.

  Err, I think he's really good in that role too. Although I find the Belter accent for _all_ of the actors so offputting that I turn on subtitles so I can understand WTF they are saying.

  In the books, they talk about how the belters have different accents and speak a different patois depending on where they are from. In the show it seems they are mostly imitating a sort of African French which I believe is supposed to be from Ceres, but there is nothing in the source material to demand they all have it. Sasa?

  Yeah, the novels detail that the accents/lingo the belters use is similar, but different, depending on origin. David Strathairn is a great character in this, but he's a combination of two or three book characters, much the way Drummer is.
