  1. I'll explain.. I have loads of disks that are simply odd numbers etc, simply looking at each one in turn is long winded, what styles program does in look at the disk index and it creates a screen dump of the files on the disk named after the disk its checked, now you can batch process huge numbers of disks and you get a visual index of what is on all those disks. You can then see if its simply a randam data disk or there's invidual things you could strip off and maybe find the odd rarity. On the Atari because there's sector loading stuff obviously not all disc will make and sense of a graphical index type dump and you also have the hassle of custom DOS's which make listing disk contents hit and miss. Has anyone ever done a program of this sort that will batch process disks and provide either a file directory listing or a picture? Just trying to organise my collection of unknowns a tad easier..
  2. That's interesting, so would that fully protect from yellowing or just partial protection, also, if it protects is it part of the plastic(?) or a sprayed on layer?
  3. You may want to say if you are able to change components and solder, that way people can make suggestions that could help you fix it. Its suffice to say that a lead change will not help and leave the machine off until you get help..
  4. Your only mistake initially was underselling the product, as you have seen most people presumed fragile plastic that may not travel well, now you have said what the consistency is and realise its not 'cheap Chinese rubbish' that there may well be some interest.. I wish you luck but until you secure interest and make an 800 and 800XL then I'm stuffed..
  5. Sadly its still going on since September last year... I know I can say for both myself and Starwindz that we would BOTH rather be working on the gamepack than our current issues..
  6. The IS guy? Hell those Islamic State guys are even more horrible than I thought!
  7. I had a 14" Trinitron hooked to my Atari 800, still miss that little treasure of a TV, pulling the volume control out to turn it on etc.. I feel your pain... Sorry I can't cheer you up but at least you are not alone..So sad you can't liberate these things....Mind you my wife would have words if I did
  8. yep sorry, saw site in the topic name and missed the links part... Links are pooh poohed...
  9. Looks ok to me... put a ? at the the end of the address and hit return to refresh the cache..
  10. Not yet, I've still got family issues re my daughter that need our attention as parents and all I can say is that Starwindz has a very important job that has quite a seriously large task on the go that is taking all his time up. But we both have said its not done and we will be back, outside life is just so hard for both of us at the moment and we (my wife and and) owe it to our daughter to support her through what seems like forever of really hard times for her. Starwindz has the pressures of work on his shoulders. Its not over until the fat lady sings and while I'm fat I'm not a lady and can't sing...So all we need is free time and good news... Thank you for your interest...
  11. I suppose the OP could setup a way to alter $0041 to zero which turns off the SIO beep... (I still remember a little bit of coding) Its odd, I loved Altirra because it was the first (only?) emulator to reproduce the beloved loading beep which so added to the feel of it being a real Atari. Then again I guess in the day it was just an annoying beep
  12. I read the book but the info felt like it had been googled or wkiki'ed and was just ropey and wrong, the 8bit coverage was patchy and short lived where it could have been fleash out a lot more. It just felt like "what over systems can we make a buck out of" type book..(I suspect it was that).
  13. Yup, went to all the trade shows and asked a million times if people were going to do 8bit Atari stuff and it was either a polite NO or "we may look at it" and never did... I was stunned when I did see a few budget titles ported to the 8 bit as the overall impression was that no one was interested.
  14. Seems ok here, you don't mean the emulated SIO noise do you? I've turned the drive mechanism sounds on and off several times here, seems to be fine on my beta 40.
  15. Woohoo, looking good Snicks.. Slowly slowly catchy monkey as they say, take your time and get the game play bang on but so far its looking very nice indeed.
  16. Brilliant....Instantly more playable and given the extra love it needed.. Thanks Tezz and all involved for the excellent work..
  17. Jon, what are your pal colour settings please, always interested in what people class as near exact as I never can decide what is right.
  18. Wow, Avery may need a week to answer all those The only one I can say a bit about is the Name Altirra....Its an Japanese Anime reference, its just something Avery liked rather than having any point to it. By the way, what version of Altirra are you using because at one point it lost the fullscreen option (by accident) and in later versions there was no visible interface while in full view (although you could click to view it). Because of the speed Avery / Phaeron adds features I'd suggest keeping up with the beta's from this thread as for the most part they are very very stable and the inclusion of new features is very fast with often long beta periods so 2.50 to whenever 2.60 final comes will have so many changes its simply worth using the beta's.
  19. As said there was plans for a portable but in the real world it came down to hobbyists making their own, much Atarian credit to you for actually lugging the hardware around. These days with the emulation so good a lap top is all you need, it does not feel as authentic as having the real hardware but the playing is the same. And lastly, much respect to you for being in or ex Forces, theses days I hear nothing but bashing for all our lads and ladies in the forces.
  20. Thank you, we always appreciate a new game for this wonderful machine..
  21. I wish I could say it was a rare mistake by him but he's done this numerous time re Altirra and this tends to be his stance re most things, make snide comments and then act as if he had no idea what was wrong. Another Internet Keyboard Rambo....
  22. Please accept any apologies if the tone of the thread has put you off posting, your posts are always 110% useful and liked, W1k just seems to have this rather annoying attitude towards people when posting in here, sometimes he's ok but mostly its just trolling. I remember a while back when he said he was leaving the Atari community to do other things.. Some people just can't be trusted to keep their promises Seriously, the more the merrier in here and maybe W1k will get that long awaited personality transplant he's been on the list for
  23. Rick, I think its more of an attitude issue, as seen through the years W1k has shown the same 'want want' & rude attitude, shame developers have to put up with this. W1k, like it or not by choosing to use the beta versions you ARE a 'tester', when reporting an issue then that is a bug report and bug reports need more info than "its not working". Always include a break down of what version you are using and what hardware you are emulating just as basic info. And please, don't jump ahead and blame the emulator when you don't have the technical knowledge to do so, as seen its the program making direct calls to places that should have used shadow locations, Altirra isn't to blame. Please try and do this in the future, when developers are doing stuff for free in their own time they really don't need rude attitudes to suck the enthusiasm out of their hard work.
  24. Because you didn't describe how it didn't work, as it boots up fine with normal basic the person testing is left to wonder if its an option that does not work. Saying you were using Altirra basic would have been a good start... Have you kept up with all the bug fixes for the Altirra basics from Phaeron? Are you using his latest Altirra basic release? You know, silly little facts like those..
