  1. Thanks for the info. Do you know if anyone has run the Z-System (or NZCOM) on the Adam? Z-Sys gives Aliases, named Directories(user areas), time/date stamps, and bunch of other useful stuff. Back in the day, I had a multi-user TeleVideo system. TS-816 with various devices attached, mostly 800a's, an RWP, and some other stuff. Basically, it is a multi-user CP/M system with a custom OS called 'Network-OS' from CBIS, Inc. in Georgia. The satellite workstations (diskless) boot from the Service Processor (816). I integrated the Z-System into the SOS (Satellite Operating System) files, and it ran great. I got a little off the subject, but I would like to hear from anyone who has got Zsys to run on Adam. Is T-DOS similar to ZSys? And, are there any other 80-Col. cards available? I want to learn about the Adam. What would it take to make a card with a video chip on it, or possibly use an Atari XEP80 type device? -K
  2. M$ still can't explain the use of the dollar sign $ as the string terminator for function 9. Only Gary knew that, may he Rest in Peace.
  3. My ADAM died a long time ago. I am waiting to find one cheap at a thrift store. I hope there is a simple way to boot CP/M from the hard drive. An 80 Column card would be nice, so I could run WordStar. I would certainly NOT be embarrassed by any CP/M system that has a good keyboard, and can run WS. -K

If it would be possible to make some kind of auto-switch device to allow the use of one monitor, that would be best. A joystick XEP-80 type device would be awesome, but, I would like to see some way of connecting one monitor to the computer, in a CLEAN, UN-obtrusive way. I love the VBXE device, but I don't want to make holes in my 1200XL. I would love to find a way to keep these things all internal, and NOT need to modify the plastic case. These plastics are getting more difficult to find every day. Now, (In my dreams), we will soon be able to 3D Print plastics, (even 1450XLD), and then it wouldn't matter as much about making holes in our classic computers. I hope everyone understands what I am trying to say. Let's not destroy our classics, until there is a way to accurately re-produce the plastics for these classic computers. (And save our un-modified originals). -K
  5. I am truly sorry to withdraw my pre-order for the Incognito. I have purchased one from David_P. Hopefully enough other people will want one to make another run. I would love to see Lotharek mass produce these. -K
  6. I would love to take a look any and all of the SALT ROMs that are available. -K
  7. How about if I PayPal you to pick me up a 1200XL, or two. Shipping shouldn't be too bad using the cheapest way which I believe is USPS. -K
  8. Thanks trub. I don't have a MF8, only a MF1+IDE. I will probably purchase one soon. -K
  9. Oops, sorry, here's the ROM file only. Also, for some reason, Star Raiders and Asteroids don't work, no matter where I put them, in a BASIC slot, or an XEGS slot. Those ROM files *DO* work in Altirra, though. The other ROM images in both BASIC and XEGS do work fine. This is in a 1200XL that I wired to be XEGS ROM compatible. Everything (but those two games) was working fine until the bad flash. Thanks for your help! -K test1.rom
  10. Thanks for the reply, trub, I have a Sunrise Z-1000B, and a Needham's SA-20. I have PLCC adapters, but I believe both programmers are far too old to support those chips. I will attach the file I flashed. I only made changes to the SDX part on the last flash, that is what I can't understand. I changed CONFIG.SYS in the SDX editor program (which I have used before), and moved some BASIC and XEGS slots around. I didn't change any of the OS files at all since my last successful flash. -K U1MFlash.atr
  11. Hi trub, the flasher you sent me worked great, until something happened today. I was talking on the phone, a little distracted while setting up the flash. I have no idea what happened, that's the disturbing part. All I get is a green screen that slowly fades to red. The OS never gets control. help+reset does nothing. Game carts that normally take over the system do nothing. I guess I need to pull the chip and re-program it. I don't think my very old programmer will do it. I read somewhere about putting the chip in an Atarimax cart to flash it. Do you know how that works? -K
  12. I will run XP forever, with *NO* desire to 'DOWNgrade' to 7 or 8 (yuck). Here is the link for XP support after 2014. http://redmondmag.com/articles/2013/08/21/arkoon-windows-xp-security.aspx I bought a (really nice and fast) ASUS laptop i7 quad hyperthread that came with 8 on it, Wiped the HD clean, and installed XP. It works FLAWLESSLY! Don't let M$ or anyone try to scare you about security, viruses, or anything. I would MUCH rather run a tested, tried, and true OS rather than some new, buggy crap that almost looks like it belongs on a phone, but is easily bested in every way by Android on my HTC One, and Sammy Galaxy S4. I don't want dumbed down goofy looking tiles on my phone or computer. Now, that that is out of the way, Back in the day, when I was FORCED to go to a religious school, that had 99/4a's... I don't remember all the details, but it involved Extended BASIC, and the SPGET function. I was still limited to the built-in words, but I found I could chop up the words into pieces. I used the phrase "go to hello", chopped off the end of it, and made it say "go to hell". That was loads of fun, one of my many pranks directed at that school -K
  13. Hi Steve, So good to see you here. We had so much fun enjoying all you guys awesome, wonderful programming You, Freddie, all the guys are truly among the shining stars of Atari. I still remember the feeling I had the first time I encountered the "format" routine in the DOS menu in the Big Demo. -K
  14. If I may quote myself... Piracy, yes, was a big thing. The Commies did it too, though. I, myself, and a lot of other people I knew didn't have the money to buy new titles, so we downloaded from BBSs. I, personally, only 'cracked' and distributed 'a few' titles, though. Sometimes you gotta only change a BCC to a BCS, or maybe replace a few instructions with NOPs -K
  15. Hi Phoenix, I have already shared trub's flasher program. It's in the ATR above. I think I have MyIDE 4.8I in it. Now, please be aware that I have never used the MyIDE OS with my setup, because, I use SDX with MYIDE.SYS. I have the MyIDE ROM in case I would need it. I don't know if I will. I typically use MyIDE only in SDX., But, using the OS, it is usable in other ways, I just don't normally use them. I hope that makes sense to you. Everything is APT partitioned using FJC's excellent FDISK program. (My) MyIDE is set up as a 256MB drive using 512 byte sectors partitioned into 8 drives. 1-7 are 65535 sectors of 512 bytes each, and the last one (8 is 40958 sectors. I use this in my external MyIDE+Flash Cart from AtariMax. I wrote the original SDX driver for MyIDE using Bob W's code as a guide, but, I couldn't get the Part.Table right. FJC was kind enough to finish the project, and that's where we are now. I have wired my 1200XL to have both ROM sockets in parallel, and XEGS compatible. That is ONE 32K (27256) EPROM containing OS, BASIC, and Missile Command in one chip. I plan on installing MyIDE (Internal) in the other socket. If I can make this work, and I am 90%+ certain of this, I believe it will be the best 1200XL ever. To use this on your MyIDE external, you will have a SpartaDOS-X register problem. You MUST disable the Internal SDX to use the cart. This will work, you can see the 1MB RAM, but, I have never gotten the clock to work properly in that configuration. If you have a Atarimax MyIDE cart, and want SDX on it, please let me know, and I will send you an ATR image to flash it. (It may take me a little time to find it.) The MyIDE is VERY fast w/ SDX. You can even run movies from it. If I remember correctly, is it 70+K/sec. I need to repair a trace or two that I bungled up trying to solder a new pin header on (my) MyIDE board. My eyes aren't as good as they were some years ago. Once I fix it, I will let you know how it works. One thing for sure, you MUST remove the ROM chip on the MyIDE internal. That's why I included it in the U1MB image, although, I will probably never use it because of the included SDX driver. I hope some of this makes sense... I am not too good at explaining things sometimes. It all depends on what you want to do with it... If you want to boot up disk images, then go with the MyIDE OS, and partition your drive into lots of image space. If you want to have large drives under SDX, use ANY OS, and the SDX driver. Hopefully you can understand my scatter-brain ramblings. Good luck -K
  16. Come on guys... Leave the new guy alone and don't scare him away with the NSA BS. They ARE are a problem, but not (hopefully) here. I am Kyle. Former HW and SW designer (in the 90's). Bob W. is one of the great Atari Gods If you have a question or comment, please feel free to ask, and just ignore any of these guys who might pick on you. It is a shame that these particular guys would, though. They are also highly respected Atarians. I have the highest respect for the HTT. I spoke with Frankenstein on the phone during my FTe days. Ask Bob. Steve, how about asking Freddie and the guys about a new (hard drive based) Super-Demo that uses as much RAM (up to 1M) as it can find? I'd love to see that, As for now, please, everyone, don't pick on the new guy. He may be a great programmer -K
  17. My personal opinion: Piracy, poor marketing, the commode-door 64, price wars... It all added up. If they had mass produced the 1450XLD at a reasonable price, and included some nice business software with it (Spreadsheet, WordProc, Database, etc.) I think it would have done very well. I believe that the main problem was in-fighting within Atari management, basically Atari management just drew a bad hand in the poker game of life. It could have been so different now. Had Atari put the 65816 in the 1450XLD, lots of RAM, and an internal hard drive option, we may now have forgotten about the long lost company named Apple that made inferior computers... We would all be talking on our FujiPhones, and listening to music on out A-Pods. If I only had a Flux Capacitor for my DeLorean...... -K
  18. Bump! I hope someone can find these ROMs to dump! You will *NOT* destroy the cart to open it. It is pop-apart, just like an orange BASIC-XL or MAC/65 cart. Anyone near Pittsburgh, PA please contact me. I will bring my EPROM programmer to you to read and dump the ROMs in the cart. Note: I AM still looking and asking everywhere locally, including my buddy (whose nickname IS Buddy) who also worked for the company. -K
  19. Atarimax carts are the exact same plastics as OSS carts from the Solakian Mold Co. 1849 No. Helm Ave. Fresno, CA, 93727, USA Tel: 209-251-8784. Now, we just need a supply of those OSS cart boards. I could kick myself in the ass for not salvaging a few cases of those boards when we (FTe) went under. I feel bad every day of my life about all the great stuff we let go... The OSS carts are orange, and Atarimax are black, but identical in every other way. SpectraView I and II carts also use the same black plastics as Atarimax. -K
  20. If they only did some research and discovered what we are doing with Ataris now
  21. Fellow Atarians, Let's Start a topic to collect all the Ultimate1MB images that we have created. We can use the imaging tools to pick and choose the components of the images, and create new ones. I made an image that contains: System: XEGS (I wired my 1200XL sockets to be XEGS compatible), SuperMON (HTT), OmniView XE, MyIDE OS. SpartaDOS (w/MyIDE driver) BASIC slots: BASIC (Ver.C), Assembler/Editor, Frogger, PacMan XEGS Games: Missile Command, Star Raiders, Centipede, Asteroids. I still can't get Star Raiders and Asteroids to work. They *DO* work in Altirra for some reason... My U1MB uses the new 39SF040 chip, and trub has kindly provided me with a flasher that works with it. I do *NOT* have any other flash ROM chips for my U1MB, so, I can not say if this flasher will work on others. Anyway, My image is included. I hope it is useful to others, and I also hope that others will upload their images here for all of us to use. I will let everyone know when I have successfully installed the Internal MyIDE with this inside my 1200XL. I am about 90% certain it will work. -Kyle U1MFlash.atr
