If we're not doing any other SIO, we could have a command to set a pitch and speed (and whatever else you can add to improve the quality)? Sort of like MIDI, but using the CMD line and some bytes? An entire data frame may not be necessary. This could be quick.

Sure. Drive 'C:' would be nice. There has got to be a way to make it a pleasure instead of a chore to use WordStar. :)
