Atari 400 800 XL MATTERHORN Cart for sale
Defender II replied to Chrodegang's topic in Auction Central

I agree, an end label would be nice. What do they look like? Probably similar to the Springer? Wish I had $400 to get one with an end label, but with so few arround (until someone finds a crateful of Matterhorns and Espials) it is well worth it. Anyone got a Matterhorn or Espial for sale? Can you wait until I get my tax refund?
-
Does anyone know if the 1200XL, 1400XL, and 1450XL/XLD used the same keyboards?
-
I agree, that would be nice. Also 800 kb to 1450XL motherboard. Does anyone know if the 1200XL, 1400XL, and 1450XL/XLD used the same keyboards?

Please post clearer pictures of the cart front, sides and back, Especially the label Thanks.

[Can you get a clearer picture? I prefer to make sure this isn't a reproduction and a better look at the label will help. Ignore the person who told you to add a reproduced end lable. Have you tested it/does it work?

Rom's Hacks & Homebrews Collection now online!
Defender II replied to Rom Hunter's topic in Atari 2600
Awesome! Any chance at the Atari 8-bit computer game ROMS being posted as a set like this? I'm tired of sifting thru bad ROM files to find good ones that work. Thank you so much! I'm glad the heirs of the inventor of the wheel don't collect royalties. : P -
If my friend doesn't have something I can use, I do have a XF551 that is non-functional at this point, but I thing the mech is fine. I've got an XF551 that I think has a bad mech. How much would you take for yours? Hope you list those ATR8000 disks soon.

Hmmm...three days for a MO to arrive...cash it immediately with no hassles at USPS...yep that's too much compared to the PAYPAL fees. NOT! What kind of problems have you had with money orders? Just use/accept USPS money orders. if it gets lost or stolen, USPS refunds the money. If the person never sends it, that's the same as if they never pay any other way.

Sorry, no. Only what I've figured out myself. Thanks anyway. If you have anything to suggest, i'm open to listen. It just keeps flashing the write/Protect lites error.

The link you had is dead, any current link?

value of ATR8000 & Speedway Blast cart
Defender II replied to y-bot's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
PM me with pictures of all the items and I can make you an offer if you aren't keeping it, or let me know how much you want for it. -
Enough collectable stuff is lost due to mother nature...It's just sickening when people destroy it on purpose. I may have an Indus GT here, if not, they show up on eBay too.
-
Apparently not. If someone finds them just PM me or post them here. Thanks.

Online Atari 2600 Label Maker : Now with Silver Labels
Defender II replied to Cropsy's topic in Atari 2600
Very worthwhile project. Keep up the good work. I agree, the 5200 & 8-bit versions would be awesome additions! -
Well, one problem I found with my CSS OS+, is the ultraspeed routines seem to ignore the actual speed byte returned by the drive. As long as it ACKs the command, it assumes $0A. Could never figure out why the replacement rom I made up for my Trak to add ultraspeed, never seemed to work, until I found out (from Steve@atarimax) that this bug existed! Note, this also keeps APE from functioning at ultraspeed. Does anyone have a dump of the OS itself, so that it can be patched? I miss a lot of the functionality of this OS, but with that bug, it's really unusable.. Do you have any schematics or maintenace manuals for the Trak drives?
-
Anyone have schematics for the Trak series of drives? I looking to at least get them for the AT_D2. Thanks in advance.
-
Did you get your drive working yet? The one connector that isn't connected connects to the door lever and senses if the lever is closed or open. It isn't used in the Indus GT for the Atari.

Hope you can get the disks copied soon. I believe you are correct about copying the CPM disks on an IBM compatable drive. I think the original disks are only SSSD. I don't think you have to copy them while running CPM, just find someone with and old IBM compatable, copyII PC, and a Teac 5.25 DSDD drive and you should be able to copy them. Teacs seem to work the best for copying different formated disk. I used to have an ISA card that you could even copy Atari disks using them. Years ago I used my ATR800 with 5.25": quad drives, SSSD, SSDD, DSDD, & 1.2M(DSHD) The XF551 mech is just a DSDD and should work fine, but I wouldn't take one apart just to do that.

Hmmm... another challenge. First from looking at your pictures, I see you have stacked the 256 chips for the 576k mod, which is quite a bit of soldering, so you have some experience there. Since the 130XE worked fine after your mod, those chips and everything else should still be fine, so you can look at things that happen over time. If the following don't work, your problem could be a cold-solder joint, which will be an extentive task of checking all of you solder connections. 1. The first step of checking the power supply has already been done, but never hurts to get another to check. 2. Two problems with sockets 'tho' is creep and corrosion. A. Creep is more common and happens over time as the chips heat up and cool down they work their way out of the sockets. B. Corrosion can happen if you didn't clean the pins well after soldering them. How to fix. A. Carefully (extra carefully since the chips are all tied together with jumper wire) remove the chips and reseat them. B. Since you are removing them you might as well clean the pins. An ink or pencil eraser carefully rubbed on both sides of the pins that go into the socket, then cleaned with a cotton swab dipped in isopropyl alchohol. 3. If it is not found above, most likely you will find a problem in the power or video circuits. Use your nose and eyes to troubleshoot. You can actually smell burned capacitors, resistors and diodes/transistors. Your nose should lead you to a deformed or burned component. Capacitors tend to get a rounded top. Some resistors and diodes actually burn in two like a fuse. Warning: I wouldn't reccommend sniffing or touching large capacitors from other power supplies (such as those used in some Arcade machines) due to PCBs. 4. Since your problem is no video your culprit could be the 40-pin GTIA -This is the chip which handles all color and luminance (brightness) information to send to the television screen. Hopefully you won't have to desolder & replace this chip, or the CPU or Antic. Save removing them as the last resorts in your troubleshooting. 5. If the 130XE was ever dropped you could have a hairline crack in your PCB somewhere and your signal tracer or voltmeter or ohm meter would help. Good luck.

Note: the cart is upside down for insertioin purposes, right-side up to read the lable. The cart end as pictured, actually has the distinctive two notches of many other Atari 8-bit carts. It may be an empty shell for a mock-up, but the case seems, right just a distorted picture. Anyone know "jamestheorangecat" who won the cart?

Any luck dumping those?
