  1. But it took years for the PCs to cath up. And while they did, the ST was very successful as a small business machine. At least here in Germany and other European countries...don't forget that Germany was Atari's most profitable section around 1990/91 And the ST didn't sell as a games machine here, people bought it with SM124 and as a capable business and professional solution with a lot of good software for a very reasonable price. Actually as the cheaper Mac in many cases
  2. Prismpaint, Canvas and Monostar come to mind....
  3. IIRC the audio can be anything but it cannot be read by the ST. It is just passed through and mixed with the YM (and possibly DMA on STE) output. More or less an audio thru scheme....
  4. Yes, Hatari is based on Winston but it was improved a lot over the last 5 years. Infact, a current Hatari release has almost no code resemblance to Winston anymore. Hatari is now more or less its very own emulator and not really based upon Winston anymore.
  5. Mainly an issue of the TV in use and not of the console itself...all 2600 games are timed with the VBL so a NTSC game should play with NTSC speed on a NTSC TV set and a PAL machine.
  6. As I actually have all Pompey Pirate menues in the way they appeared on the LGD CD, I'm willing to mail GIVEN NUMBERS out. I do not have any space to host them for download ....
  7. I fully agree...just went to see "Max Payne" a few weeks ago and I was rather disappointed. And in comparison to SI Max Payne offers a storyline to develop a movie from...... No, I won't pay to see a SI movie!
  8. Emanuelle definitly was available in English. AFAIK the Automation crack of the game is in English.
  9. Nope, I only have a 2600jr but it still works. One just cannot put the keyboard on top. For Hangman some string processing functions are needed but from what I oversee it does not have any functions for this. Simple number guessing stuff seems possible though - or dice games. The machine has no PEEK, POKE, no arrays either so you are limited to 16 variables and an RND() function. You can use string variables too but without functions to access characters (LEFT$, MID$, RIGHT$) the string variables are almost of no use. I personally tried saving to tape today but it didn't work. I conencted my PC (ehem) and tried to record the tape data into some WAV but i couldn't make it work. Maybe I have to try again with better settings. Actually I agree, it is pretty much like a ZX81 in some aspects. However the ZX81 allows screen control from within its BASIC which the Compumate does not support. It has one ncie thing which makes the small text screen (12x10 chars) less annoying. Keywords are displayed as special characters. so instead of PRINT taking 5 chars on a line there is simply a single "PRN" symbol on screen which occupies one character space.
  10. The Compumate arrived today and I got it working. I agree that it is almost useless but a nice gimmick. And considering the TIA abilities I wonder how the text display is maybe (code wise) Some pictures in my Blog: Compumate itself http://www.final-memory.org/?page_id=309&a...840#picture_nav Box front http://www.final-memory.org/?page_id=309&a...838#picture_nav Box back http://www.final-memory.org/?page_id=309&a...839#picture_nav I tried snapping a screenshot from my TV but it didn't work reliably... all in all I'm happy with a more rare buy
  11. Got my 2600 just last year but I immediately fell in love with the Realsports Tennis cartridge I got with it, and Space Invaders of course
  12. Ladybug always sounded attractive to me...
  13. Hehe, I second that! Once I was short of selling mine but as soon as I started to put it to real use, I would never want to give it away. There is a reason why Falcons do cost more than your average retro computer, they are neither common (like 1040STs or a C64) nor were they aquired without thought in the past. Those who did buy a Falcon in the 90s mostly knew what they bought and why
  14. I hope there will be a way to purchase this from Europe without having to hassle with import taxes and Paypal. I would like to get one too!
  15. How much is this worth for real? I suspect I got this one fairly cheap http://cgi.ebay.de/ATARI-Unviversum-Heimco...7QQcmdZViewItem Any comments?
  16. Ehem - this is just a hacked Pacman cart... *RIP OFF*
  17. Yes, maybe there is another project. But this one surely fits my feelings...
  18. Well, actually it is possible. Thothy once compiled a MINT binary of the Hatari emulator and did run it under Aranym. I guess the performance wasn't too good...but in theory this will work with an emulator within an emulator.
  19. Paradize has yet another game release for you. Cooper gave the Falcon a go this time and our new little puzzler, Chainz, is exclusively meant to run on the Falcon. A special bypass allows disabling of the DSP music so you can use Hatari too. Go to http://paradize.atari.org/ to grab a copy!
  20. Ok, then I didn't miss much as I lost the auction anyway....
  21. "For use with keyboard controller" How much is this one worth and is it common?
  22. I'd be interested too. And if the price is ok, I'll buy two or three of them. some people seem not to understand that there is a big difference between floppies and HD on atari ST. Most of the disk-based games won't run from HD. Those games are stuck to disk, and even when you have a real harddisk like MegaFile or else. you are not able to run those games from harddisk. Since satandisk is a substitution for a HD, you are not able to run those games from satandisk. I'd say it would be a cool idea, someone invented a system that emulates a floppydrive. So indeed: you could save your .ST images on a SD of CF card, and with some external keys you select your image, and then the interface emulates a drive, and the atari boots from this image thing. Unfortunately as far as i know there is no such thing yet for Atari St. This is how all those cool Atari 8bit devices work like sio2ide and sio2sd. I still love the satandisk, so if it is not too expensive... count me in for two or three of them. And with not too expensive i mean: max. 50-75 dollar each. Greetz M. There is something like this floppy emulator. But all in French and somehow weird to install...I don't have it hand but I'm sure someone out there can provide you with an URL...
