Wow! $9.95 for something otherwise FREE?!? Count me in for 100 of those puppies!
NOT!
Some people... I say kill them all and raise the genepool...

IMHO, better SQ than ET...

Nobody has been able to do a 30+ hour marathon on fast angled asteroids, so I don't fault Mike for that.Agreed. In fact, most people couldn't last the entire 15 minutes in the live challenge we (TG) ran at CGE.
Besides, feel free to beat the score if you like. :-)No way, no how...

If you really want a challenge on VCS Asteroids...
Game 32, Diff A

This is the variation I play most often as it offers the greatest challenge. Two years ago at CGE I ran a tournament for 32A with a 15 minute time limit. Here are the results:

Most valuable cart I own is Swordquest: Waterworld. Rarity 9 here and a 7 in the DP guide.

Are there any hardware "Easter Eggs" in the Atari 2600? I've heard of one (forget what it's called) that had something to do with flicking the power on and off really fast or something....Cap
Frying is the term. Haven't heard of any others tho'.

Ms. Pacman
Berzerk (Voice Enhanced)
Megamania
River Raid...
o.k., I like 'em all. What can I say, I'm an Atari FANATIC!!!

Welcome Candyrose!
I am a crossbreed here. I am a serious collector and gamer. Best of both worlds right?

Most I've ever paid for a cart is $150 for a Colecovision Proto (which I no longer own due to theft).

http://www.snipercade.com/twingal/bin/imag...s/ron_chart.png for a summary of my collection.
Here in Phoenix, AZ, cart prices are still "reasonable". You can still find commons for $ .50.
Take care.

ATARI 2600 ASTEROIDS RECORD SMASHED
Reported by Ron Corcoran - Worldwide Atari and Intellivision Editor
Saturday, August 17th, 2002
As most of us were sleeping this past Saturday when the clock struck midnight and Sunday began, Mike Morrow was quite awake... albeit extremely tired... After all, he had just finished playing Atari 2600 "Asteroids" for 33 hours 7 minutes straight on game 1B!! In the process, he achieved a final score of over 10 million points, more than 6 times the previous world record of 1.6 million.
Each million points took approximately 3 hours to achieve, and Mike estimates that he pressed the fire button roughly 300,000 times during this marathon stretch, a calculation that comes down to about 2.5 presses per second, enough to induce a hand cramp at the very least !! Oh yes, for the mathemeticians out there...this averages approx 84.175 points per second.
Mike used an original 2600 "Woody", and a commercial Asteroids cartridge for this achievement. The entire event is captured on four 8-hour videotapes at SLP speed, plus a little over an hour on a 5th tape. All materials will be sent for final validation prior to his record being posted on the Twin Galaxies online scoreboard and in the Book of Records.
This marks Mike's first completed venture into the "marathon realm" of gameplay, and in doing so he has joined a small but intrepid and dedicated group of gamers who have burned the midnight oil and then some while on the same gaming credit. Mike told us that "ships were sacrificed in order to rest my hands for a few seconds, eat, drink, and to visit the restroom. This is risky as you can never have more than 9 ships, so breaks may only be as long as 30 seconds or you can lose your game."
Mike also explains..."I'd like to dedicate this record to the memory of Scott Safran", who we know to be the recognized arcade Asteroids world record holder who had passed away a few years back while attempting to save his cat.
Mike is also the officially recognized and verified world record holder on quite a few important gaming records, including the world's only sub-60 minute completion of "Resident Evil" from the more modern PS2 system, and is hard at work at Atari 2600 "Xenophobe", already achieving a score of 1,084,285 and trying for more.
Congratulations Mike, on an awesome and inspiring achievement in the world of vintage video gaming !!

I only play Left "B" and Right "B". All scores in the TG database are also B - B difficulty.
As I said, if anyone wants to play AB, BA or AA, I can create new categories in the database and track those seperately.

We should have an AtariAge Tourney. Say 72 holes over a few days (18 a day) post your daily score (on honor of cource since this is golf) what say ye?Of cource I would have to figure out how to play the stupid game since I can not seem to hit the ball, but I will work on it tonight!)
I'd be game for this. (Shameless TG plug) If you record your game to tape or .avi (PCAEWin), you can submit it for TG consideration. (Shameless plug off)...

-
Ron-Thanks for the info. It certainly makes more sense. Will the golf scores be fixed so that they come up in the right order? If I play the game on difficulty A, would this start another category of scores?
Thanks again for your quick reply.
Yes, our intent is to fix all score anomolies (sp) as soon as we can. I could create a new category for Diff A...

What is the simplest way to get *.CSV databases to show up on my Palm Pilot?? I want to bring my Cart Commander lists with me, but I'm not savvy enough with the Palm to know how to get them there, and my "List", ummm lists are woefully out of date. One function of the CC I love is the percentage report...I saw a few of these in the off-topic a week ago. As soon as I get my 2600 and NES lists in, I plan on putting that picture up here...
This sounds like a good question for Brien. I have an iPAQ which can read raw .csv or I can convert to PocketExcel. I know very, very little about Palm as I have been a WinCE user for years and never got into PalmOS. Sorry.

Not sure what is up at twingalaxies - 46 under par is obviously impossible (par is 36) and you have to hit the ball AT LEAST once per hole, for a theoritical low score of 9 (although this is certainly impossible with the angles and distance the ball will travel). My guess is that it is for 4 rounds of golf, which would make sense, although VERY impressive (46 under would mean an average score of under 25 four games in a row!!!). I have theorized with my tests that the lowest score I can obtain is a 21, which would include a large number of chip-ins from the green.I'll have to fire it up and give it a shot...
Actually, the scores listed are for number of strokes taken in 9 holes, not a measure of "under par".

-
The scores listed on the TG site are strokes taken
a) for 9 holes
b) not sorted properly (my score should be second to last)
c) played on Difficulty B
As for scoring, the following comes straight from the manual for the game:
Hole No. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 TOTAL
Par 3 5 4 4 4 5 4 3 4 36
The Human Cannonball scores in the dBase are still hosed. We are working to get many shortcomings fixed.

How's about a hack that plays the Lipps Inc. classic Funkytown?
The Pseudo Echo remake is pretty funky too...

Something similiar to the Kobe gum thing was a big news story here in Phoenix, AZ recently. Apparently a security guard picked up the gum of one of the baseball players (Diamondbacks) and sold it on ebay for several thousand dollars... strange...

If any of those folks declined to give an autograph I would be shocked beyond belief... HSW not only autographed a copy of his tapes for me but wanted to know more about me and Snipercade. Truly stunning considering I am a nobody...

Here is another I've created that shows company logos of those companies that created titles for the Atari line of consoles. All images used with Al's permission.
