  1. Wow you can still play mspacman in the arcade... where are you from ? the promised land....I would love to have a go at a working copy of gorf I loved that when I was a kid. : 8)

Actually, I own Ms. Pacman, Tron and Bosconian cabs. I have them in my gameroom with all my console and classic computer systems. :)

And I wouldn't exactly call Phoenix, AZ a "promised land"... ;)

  2. The Track and Field controller is excellent for Decathlon. Because of the way the game is programmed, you can hold down one of the run buttons, and tap the other to run really quickly. Combine this with the pole vault trick, and you can get some amazing scores.

Sadly, by doing this, and using this technique, none of your scores will be eligible for Twin Galaxies consideration. :( If you're interested in having your scores printed in the Book of World Records that is... :)

  3. I'm a master at Ms Pac Man in the arcade, so I thought it should be pretty easy to rack up a high score on Ms. Pac Man for the 7800.

Check out this site to see other masters at Ms. Pacman :)

The first thing I notice is that it is much harder on the 7800.  Mainly, I think Ms Pac Man herself has been slowed down drastically.  I could run circles around the ghosts in the arcade.  On top of that, I find my controller to be less responsive than the arcade joystick.

Yes, Ms. Pacman on the 7800 is more difficult. Not due to "slowness", but rather due to the fact that your normal patterns and grouping techniques won't work.

  4. I am fortunate enough to have a cool wife (married 18 years). When we bought our house 3 years ago (after we moved to Phoenix), she agreed that I could have the 2nd den as my gameroom. In it are all of my cabs (Bosconian, Tron & Ms. pac), all of my consoles and retro computers. I also have what I characterize as an "EmuBox" in there. It's a PC dedicated to running nothing but emulators. :) Keeps me from having a spaghetti farm of wires. :)

As for the tips on Ms. Pac, my pleasure. Visit the Twin Galaxies forum sometime and you will see hints/tips and such to many games from the top players in the world. If there is a game you need advice or help with, feel free to ask. I'm sure many people will be glad to help (such as here at AA).

  5. god i miss snow. live in florida, and the only real snow ive had in the past decade or more was one vacation to the grand canyon. god it was beautiul. grew up in new york, so ive been going through snow withdrawl since i moved to florida.

If I want to see snow I have to drive 2 hours north to Flagstaff and the SnowBowl or go a little further (~2 hrs.) to the Canyon. Living in Phoenix sucks in the winter... Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow. :)

  6. What I want to know is WHAT is the secret? :P MsPac gets so darn hard later on with the Red ghost going so fast. Even if he's not explicitely chasing you, eventually, you'll find yourself in his path with no way of getting out of the way.. I imagine that would happen several times along the way to 2 million. How'd you do it? :?

The secret to Ms. Pacman on the VCS is simply one word... Quadrants. You must clear each quadrant on it's own. As with the coin-op Ms. Pac, never make a run on dots longer than three (3) seconds and use the tunnels at all time to your advantage. The ghosts have a pattern/behaviour they follow. You will find by not making large runs, and using the tunnels, you will easily manipulate them into moving in a way that suits you. Be patient in clearing the quadrants and go for the max # of blue ghosts early to build your score. Eventually, the game comes down to tunnel use and gathering fruits (much like the coin-op). Hope this helps a little.

And to score 340k on Jr. Pac? Holy shit! How many threads have started here about the difficulty of 2600 JrPac and the "kamikaze" techniques of it's ghosts. What's the secret to that too?

Actually, I'm not really that good at Jr. Pacman. Robert Macauley has a score of 1,794,250 and Mark Feldt has a score of 902,660 that have been posted to TG. I consider myself well behind the curve in this game as my score is only 18.990% of #1. :(

  7. Scores only count during the ~3-week period from Feb 11 (when contest began) to 28 (deadline).  This is not an all-time-best contest, but a limited-time contest.

Sorry about that. I thought you were going for what our personal best scores were with a deadline to post them by 28 Feb 03. :(

  8. Here are my personal best scores for each game:

    TITLE---------------GAME-----SCORE

    Pac-Man------------1-B---------301400

    Ms.Pac-Man--------1-B---------2654680

    Jr.Pac-Man---------1-B---------340730

    Space Invaders---8-B---------3920

    InvisibleInvaders-16-B--------2260

    Asteroids----------32-A--------52580 (15 minutes only-still had 3 ships)

All scores listed are posted to the Twin Galaxies Scoreboard and have been verified by a TG Referee.

  9. Since I installed SP3 for Win2k, PCAEWin 2.6 no longer works for me. :( It worked fine under Win2k SP2, but now it just generates an error and closes. Btw, PCAEWin works fine on my WinME and WinXP boxes... Go figure :?:

Here is a screenshot of the error. No, I am not running XP. It's Win2k SP3 running WindowBlinds 3.5 Enhanced. Yes, I get this error with WB disabled. :)

  10. Yep, that's all there is to this game. Once you pass the 50k mark, the "other" agents get very fast (yet predictable). There are two reasonable "safe" spots in the game where you can camp and get big scores. Just ask Todd Rogers... :)

    http://www.twingalaxies.com/cgi-perl/searc...latformSelect=5

    1 100.000% 2,010,500 Todd Rogers PH

    2 38.135% 766,700 Ron Corcoran PH

    3 1.894% 38,075 James Carter R

    4 1.689% 33,950 David Dutrow R

    5 1.583% 31,825 Robert Mruczek R

    6 1.192% 23,975 Greg Troutman R

    7 1.005% 20,200 Adam Gurno R

    8 0.696% 14,000 Stephen Knox R

Why such disparity in the scores? Some of us are more sick and twisted than others... 8)

  11. AAhhhhh!!!  finally some competition!!!  I have the arcade Ms. Pacman at home as well - and I've gotten a little past the equivalent of the nineth key in Pac-Man (where you slow down again but the monsters do not - it becomes very difficult without a pattern) :(  What's your high?

(Sorry about the OT question, it's the only one I'll ask)   :P

Here's a link to some pretty decent Ms. Pacman players... 8)

  12. The biggest feature I would like in a 2600 emulator is being able to play online.

    New in PCAEWin 2.6:

Added Kaillera net-play support. Using this will open up emulation in a separate pop-up window. Players can chat among one another by hitting the slash key and typing chat text.

Perhaps someday we can play with/against one another via the Net. :)
